I know this has been a constant topic here, but anyway....

Thinking everyone that plays online games is going to be annoying....until you meet those that aren't one after another.....is 1) not healthy and 2) hindering a MULTIPLAYER game.

It's such a pain to be blind sided by a Brute or something that someone could have warned me about.

No one is asking you to become deep in conversation with total strangers....but it would be nice to have teammates riather than mute pros.

I don't care if you're so good that you can carry a team without a mic.  I'd rather have 4 guys with a mic saying "Brute coming up the stairs!!!" or "Banshee on my ass, help!!!".

Why?  B/c eventhough you might carry a team...it's not fun covering a direction and thinking your teammates are right behind you doing the same in another direction only to find out that 1 or 2 or 3 ran off when 2 Brutes and a Ravenger came around the corner...only to be pummeled.

Edit: I 'm more or less talking about the PC.  I haven't been on LIVE in forever so I don't know what the community is like.

i keep a mic nearby but i dont tend to run into a group of players where it will come in handy. would be nice to have a spot button in game that you could press to alert others of the bigger enemys though im sure people would use it to annoy others

I'm sorry....but I really don't.

Why would I carry a team? It's co-operative multiplayer. I expect co-operative play.

To that end, I don't just "cover one direction", either. I play for the team, I listen for the voice prompts.

Yeah, right away I identify the race combinations so I can get a vague fix on who's character is shouting what.

If you get blind sided, you should probably listen for prompts & keep on the move, not just stay in scope.

So yeah...not about to go buy a mic...redundant hardware.

LOL you do not need a mic. You need to avoid tunnel vision, apparently.

I finally got a mic that works and it's so useful communicating with the team, but my mic is now broken and now it feels like I'm at such a disadvantage. My internal notebook mic and my non-USB mics don't seem to work with the game.

Sometimes it can be a hinderance too... This morning I got a French family screaming in my earhole with a baby going off with the most ear splitting screech...

One thing people should realise... if you play ingame and have a Kinect IT WILL USE THE MIKE ON THE KINECT IF YOU DON'T MUTE IT. I have to admit I didn't realise it until I had disconnected my headset and thought I was safe and was cursing this bunch of idiots who were just using powers on each other as if FF was on... One of them said "You know we can hear you don't you?"

*cue me going red*

So now when I don't use the Kinect I mute the damned thing...

Sorry, I don't "need" anything that some random person on the internet tells me I need.

I choose not to use a mic because a) I don't like talking with idiots, B) my accent can sometimes be difficult for others to understand [for some reason, I am told I have a thick new england accent - I don't notice it], and c) I don't want to.

MP games have been played for ages without the "need" for mics [Look at the MP shooters of the early/mid 90's - mics were in no way "necessary" for success]

I prefer to play with a mic, but as mine is busted I've been playing without it a lot and...well, I don't see any problem with it. But the time you get to N7 30+ most people are already good enough at the game that they instinctively work well together.

Plus, playing infiltrator I get too frustrated at people biotic charging infront of my shots for it to be a good idea that I always have a mic on. Am I really the only person with that problem?

This is why they need to implement text chat like ALL other multiplayer games have as a standard.

I'm not going to use a mic because people like the OP are demanding it. A bit of common sense is more helpful than a mic.

I know b/c CO-OPERTIVE PLAY has nothing to do with relying on your teammates......or communicating with them.

Sorry. but you're fighting an uphill battle.

I do fine without a mic (Yes, keeping an eye on my teammates and enemies included). Although I would like a text chat system for better communication.

I'm sorry....you don't like ppl giving their opinions with conviction?

Did I scream at you with capslock?

Did I start playing loud music or something?

Did I swear at you and belittle you in anyway?

No, I might have been a little stern but I was not disrespectful.

If it was an RPG then I could understand text chat... but it's a fast moving action mp game. By the time you have typed in a reply you are dead most likely. That's where voice is better than text...

What they DO need is some way to figure out who the hell is speaking. Nothing like someone saying "I NEED HELP OVER HERE" and you invariably ask "WHERE?" and they reply "OVER HERE".

The mic isn't for you......and I don't see how text chat is going to help matters if you stop fighting to type "Hi there Dudeintheroom.....just wanted to let  you know theres Banshee behind you....lol....ok, back to fighting!"

Just because you aren't skilled enough to pause fighting to type out a quick message...

Heck, in multiplayer, I did fine pausing to open the -steam overlay- (Which requires typing Shift Tab), typing out a message, then pressing Shift Tab again to close it.

Ah right, so this is one of those

"I AM OP I AM INEVITABLY RIGHT EVERYBODY ELSE IS WRONG!"-threads.

I'll take my exit & leave the OP to it, because the OP fully admits to tunnel-vision & demands others to do his awareness job for him. I suggest you take your exits too, folks.

I understand your frustration, but mics aren't needed.

i did silvers and golds successfully without any of the members using a mic. i guess because those who were capable of doing them queued for them. Because of this event everyone wants to do silver and we fail every game. Some low levels que with us, which i dont want to judge prematurely as i've had lvl 6 people performing better than most lvl 18 vanguards. But i don't think having a mic or not would make a difference if you dont have common sense and a teamwork mindset. Which apparently a lot of people don't considering everyone tries to be a rambo in these silver missions.

While I don't have a mic and wouldn't use one I will take his side on one thing typing on say the ps3 without a keyboard of some kind would be rather hard. I have it on the ps3 so typing for me would be diffucult. Myself I wouldn't use either just try to keep an eye on everyone ajnd do my best for the team. Granted I haven't played multiplayer much and tried a bronze solo just to get myself use to it before I do start playing for real not to win but get use to controls and such.

Dear god.  So you saying "OP is wrong and I am right" isn't the same thing?  Dont give me that crap.

So this is one of those "I'm all offended b/c OP told me to do something and I dun wanna....so I'm gonna argue no matter how weak my argument is"

This is the interent where EVERYONE is right and you know good and well if you had a valid argument you would be making your point.

Cooperation does not require a microphone. Know where you are, know where your teammates are, and always keep an eye peeled behind you just in case. And unfortunately rambo's won't stop being rambo's with a mic. They'll just run off by themselves, get killed, and then yell at everybody else.

I don't use a mic with complete strangers for the simple fact that my privacy is set to friends only on my 360. I've come across too many bad apples that I just ended up going that route. Would it be nice talking to some decent folk on the ME MP? Sure.

The sad truth is though, I've been burned too many times on other games that I just don't bother. Xbox Live is a bad bad place.

Besides, I get on just fine playing with others without a mic. Being able to complete silver against reapers multiple times without any communication is a success in my book.

Well, in my experience, it's mostly people who like to order others around who demand the use of mics. It's rarely a real teamgame in public matches and a mic doesn't change that.
