My character died to save the world, as I hate the fact that he died I too have found my canon ending. There is just no way they can make a sequel based off of our characters the way they closed everything up and ended the game.
I would definetely be down for some cameos though.
Bear in mind that the alternative endings where you don't die are well-realized and which don't "tacked on" or "unlikely to be canon," like saving yourself in the original version of Fallout 3.
I did the the "Logain redemption" ending, which for a lot of people would be far out stuff, and it seemed just right. Actually, I interacted with him a lot after inducting him, because I needed to get his +strength bonus from good relations, to get him into decent armor.
Contrary to what some people have written, you can actually have in depth conversations with him post-Landsmeet, and although I saw him as an utter mustachio-twirling villain up to that point, I was surprised at how seemlessly the interactions humanized him. During the ending sequence I actually felt a real twinge during the sequence showing his sacrifice.

The canon hero should be a male Grey Warden which had a romance with Morrigan and is the dragon-god-child's father, Alistair was made king and most parties (elves, mages) are alive along with the rest of the party members.
That's the most satisfying outcome imo.
After all the hero will simply be adressed as "the Grey Warden" in future games and the fact that he was male in canon shouldn't upset people much, specially having account that it's the only "canon" imposed charasteristic and has a good reason to be so.
I think the hero deserves to be the child's father rather than Alistair for various reasons, one of those being:
-NOVEL SPOILER--------Read at your own risk
(Alistair's sister is provably Morrigan according to the stolen throne novel, in which Maric spends various hours inside Flemeth's hut "repaying her" so better rule that option out, also the kid will have Maric's blood anyways)

I think making the Grey Warden/Hero of Ferelden male for the purposes of canon is most likely, but if they decide to go with the "Arthurian EWW Incest" story line, it doesn't really matter. If the PC of the first game didn't sacrifice themself, or didn't marry Alistair or Anora, it would be easy enough to simply refer to the character as "the Hero of Ferelden" in codex entries or game dialogue. As far as where they are when the new game takes place; Weisshaupt Fortress, the Qunari islands, or someplace else far away from the action.

The lesbian dwarf duster warden paragon went off and travelled the world with her bi-sexual human lover Leliana until they split up (it says they only travelled for a time... :-( ). We start as said lesbian warden paragon drowning her sorrows in a bar in Orlais.
What?! Thats really how my playthrough ended, and I want to continue!!!
Seriously though, I would like to see Leiliana in a sequel. Theres no reason she could not appear anywhere.

Interesting possibility would be to have Alistair and Anora rule for several decades but never produce an heir. Morrigan pops up in the waining years of thier rule and brings out the God-spawn (Couldn't really call it a kid at this point) and claims that it has a right to the throne since she (Morrigan) is Maric's daughter and therefore her offspring has royal blood.

Morrigan and her tale. Alistair as king. Origins PC preferred.

If they want to continue the story(which would take a huge effort), they don't have to make everthing canon. Just one thing: That the ritual was completed. Should they set other things to improve the story?(ex: Alistair being king) IMO yes, but they aren't needed.
PC gender being male? No, that ain't going to happen, nor should it. Alistair/Loghain were there for Female PCs.
PC Origin being set? Just not going to happen and again it doesn't need to be.
Everything else can be minimized by two things. Pushing it several years ahead(2-5), and setting the adventure in a new kingdom. That way you could hear about Redcliff no longer being important(or still important) dialogue or a codex entry, but it wouldn't require a large effort by the devs.
One other factor is sales, the more people that buy the game, the higher the chance of seeing the warden as the PC again. Mediocre/below expectation sales, is more likely to see a new story with a new PC in a new land.

I would prefer a new story. How would I fire up my orginal PC, not be able to romance Morrigan/Leliane, run around with 9 new dudes and 3 new women that hit on me?

I would even like a Final Fantasy type series of Dragon Age. Same quality and setting but almost always new story/people.
