You hate the ending because it's not a happy ending or because it doesn't make any sense?

The main issue here isnt the ending story. Yeah it could use help but the main thing is that NO MATTER what you do in the 3 games , you will get the same ending in ME3. That right there is kicker.

I didn't like the ending because there was no closure, no consequence. An ending similar to DA:O would have been great, seeing the consequences of your actions and choices. It's this, not about not having a "happy" ending. I choose to sacrifice my character in DA:O, so it isn't only about Shepard living or not.

The thing that makes the ending even that much more depressing is all the death and despair that takes place throughout the game. It would have been nice to have a triumphant moment at the end of the game.

My problem is both really. Most importantly it doesn't make a lick of sense but I'd enjoy it if they had a really hard to get "good" ending. Would really like some kind of epilogue too saying what happens to the different races based on your decisions.

I'm fine with a bad ending. In fact, that's what I wanted.

Instead, the ending as it is makes no sense. I'm cool with the idea of sacrificing yourself for "the greater good" but everything Space Child says throws everything out the window that has been previously mentioned. That he controls the Reapers, that he is the Citadel (so why do the Reapers need the Keepers?) and that the point of the Reapers is to end the chaos. What is the chaos? That synthetics will destroy organics.

So, to protect synthetics from destroying organics, you create synthetics to destroy organics?

Cool.

The indoctrination theory is the only one that makes sense. However, that only explains what happens during The Illusive Man confrontation and Space Child confrontation. Doesn't explain why the Normandy is fleeing, why your squadmates who were just in battle with you are on the Normandy and why the end up on some random planet. Why does the space magic destroy your ship? Why are there even planets?

The Arrival DLC lays it out pretty perfectly. You blow up a Mass Relay and it causes an explosion that destroys the entire system.

There's just too many questions and plot holes in the end. Not many people I've spoken with care about a happy ending. It's that none of this makes any sense.

I don't mind there being some bittersweet options, but I'd at least like to get a somewhat happy ending for my squad members. My biggest complaint with the ending is the sheer amount of plot holes that seem to be present. With the level of detail put into the lore, I just can't comprehend how there are those plot holes in there.

I'm planning on shooting the script with an automatic shotgun to see if it is physically possible to make more holes in it.

To be more clear, even the happy ending maybe could be ended in such a way that it's clear Shepard is not ever going to go back into action. Injuries taken getting it, and whatever Cerberus did to bring them back making it impossible, they will spend the rest of their life on a Desk Job, saving the Galaxy is someone elses job now. This prevents the calls for a followup Shepard adventure that I could happily accept as part of the 'Happy Ending' because hell, it'd be good, shepard saves the galaxy and retires.

To chill with the Bro Garrus on the beach with a beer, to live off the royalties for the Vids that are going to be made about them.

Because it doesn't make any sense. I could cope with the mass relays being destroyed, if it had shown the alien fleets returning to there systems of origin and friends saying there fair wells. And that, however unlikely it is, they might see each other one day. And then once all the fleets are back to there own systems, they signal and the crucible is activated. A sad and emotional ending that would of actually made sense. You would of had to make a big sacrifice (cutting the races of the galaxy off from each other for a VERY long time) but it was the only way to stop the reapers. Of course, people will probably say this won't work, because there is a reaper fleet in orbit that would decimate the crucible before it fired if it didn't have the whole combined fleet protecting it but this is where our war assets come into play.

If we had a high enough EMS then our fleet would over power and destroy the reapers in orbit over earth, forcing them to retreat and wait for reinforcements, leaving the crucible safe and time for the rest of the Alien fleets to make their jumps back to their systems and let friends (garrus, Liara, Tali, say their goodbyes to shepard) or if your EMS wasn't high enough, the reapers destroy the crucible and you lose the war.

I would of been happy if that is how it played out.

It's not so much that Shepard has to die or the relays blow up, it's the Joker speeding away with the team on the Normandy? I just don't understand why that was put in the game.

It just feels so very rushed, and lame. I can't figure out why the whole game is so kick ass then they just ugh. I don't even know.

Both. Made no sense and no option for happy ending if we did everything right. Just like if we did nothing right we should lose and the Reapers should win completely. And everything in between. Like we were promised.

It felt tacked on and just "wrong." It didn't line up with all the great writing that preceded it, both in ME2 and the previous two games.

A lot of story arcs in ME3 had powerful and moving resolutions (geth & quarians, Mordin, etc.) and the final ending wasn't even close to those in quality or emotional impact. It felt to be completely out of place and foreign to the ME universe.

I didn't require a happy ending and didn't expect one. I just wanted one that felt right in the context of what came before. I feel robbed. What makes it all worse is that ME3, while not perfect, is a fantastic game up to the last few minutes. After DA2 I felt BioWare had redeemed itself somewhat. Then that ending came along...

It's both for me, I'm not saying that all the endings need to be happy but at least make it something I can actually achieve instead of this ambiguous you did everything right but still got screwed ending.

Don't need a happy ending necessarily, don't need that all questions are anwered, like when endings are open to interpretation: BUT ONLY IF IT FITS TO THE REST OF THE STORY! some things just dont make sense, feel unfinished und rushed

I disliked the ending because it made no sense, but I think there's something very wrong when an ending must be sad to be considered intelligent and artistic.  Wouldn't that make a sunshine and bunnies ending daring and innovative?

Forgetting about the ending for a moment, I liked how Shepard's guilt and the burden of choice was played up through the game.  Mordin's sacrifice, Thane praying for Shepard, the nightmares and Shepard's ever increasing fatigue, it didn't make me wonder if Shepard would live so much as does he deserve to live.  And if he does, what is the cost.

In this context, a happy ending wouldn't feel like dumbing it down.  Ultimately it should be up to the player, but then that is the root of why people are upset.

For me, a bit of both.

Mainly because they were pushing in interviews that this game was going to have amazing endings.  We were told that there would be SEVERAL DIVERGENT endings.  Something that had never been done before because they always had to think about what came after.  But this time, since it was the end of the Shepard series, they could go all out and give us many totally different endings.

We did not get that at all.  What we got was 3 nearly identical endings.  Endings that used almost 90% of the assets of each other and only showed trace differences.  What is more, if you add to that the 'theory' endings it may be an indoctrination attempt or a dream as you die.  The last is even worse if true because it means that there was only 1 damned ending - the reapers won.

We were also told that they would NOT give us a LOST style ending.  We were explicitly told that the ending would not lead to questioning what happened, that every question would be answered by the end of this game.

The ending is nothing BUT questions.  Is it real at all?  How did Joker get into the relay jump before the blast?  WHY did Joker leave the fleet and run away?  HOW did your ground crew get on the ship?  They left you?  How did Hackett know you were on the Citadel when the radio comms said that NO ONE made it.  How did Anderson come up after you but end up ahead of you.  Why did Shepard not question the VI?  And on and on.  Question after question - just like LOST.

So yes, I want a happy ending.  I want a reapers win ending.  I want varous endings where we squeek by but lose friends and self.

Basically, I want what they promised and I based my preorder on.  NO more, no less.

It is a combination of both factors. It obviously does not make sense, but the ending also does not match the themes of the past two games or even the majority of the third installment. Mass Effect has always been a message of hope and perseverance about overcoming impossible odds to fight another day like defeating Saren, surviving the Suicide Mission, curing the genophage, united the turians and krogan or the quarians and geth, etc. The list goes on and on The endings throw this central and important theme completely out the window.

And what are people really looking for in a "happy" ending? They aren't asking for rainbows and ponies. In the story, they've already lost several squadmates, Earth and several planets have been burned to the ground, and several characters are likely suffering PTSD. What players want is a well written "happy" ending where Shepard is able to defeat the Reapers and live his or her remaining days with those who have survived while acknowledging the sacrifices and suffering along the way to reach where they are.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if many endings ended bittersweet, I just want the option to maybe, if I do things right, have a happy ending. There was a quote by one of the DA:O guys who said the end of any good game is supposed to make you feel like a hero, and I do want to have a chance to feel triumphant. Real life is dark enough without even my escapes being dark as well.

Altough personally i would not mind if shepard survives , and why not ?
why not a happy ending ?

But the main reason for me is that it simply doesnt make sence
too many plotholes and questions are left the whole ending is a joke
unlogical , unbelieveable..

Shepard dies ?

Fine but dies fighting protecting his friends everything he loves sacrifices her/himself
to stop the reapers. in a logical way that makes sence and gives closure.
