I wish I could disagree with this, but in a franchise whose success is almost solely on its story, I can't
California Literary Review gives ME3 2.5/5 stars, due to the ending

That's what I did on Amazon, only I plan to fix it once they fix the non-endings.

Good, they deserve a wake up call.

"Mass Effect 3 is easily the worst finale I’ve seen compared to the preceding quality that came before it – in any medium. At literally every level, it’s objectively terrible."
This is exactly how I feel and the reason I joined the retake movement. The thing I hate most about the ending is knowing that the same people who wrote the story for that amazing fame thought that was a good ending. They literally could not have a worse ending unless they deliberately tried to make a worse ending.

Well said. Excellent write up.

If the final score is indicative of the final impression rather than a culmination of other scores, I'd give it a terrible score too. Yes, the ending IS that bad.

Wow. Talk about painful. That's a great find.

@BULLETWASTER
I agree!
In fact I've posted before that how could the people that wrote the Garrus shooting bottle scene or the Liara time capsule write the ending.......it doesn't have the same feeling or timing at all!

This is a great read indeed. It's also refreshing to read a review that doesn't confuse a "bittersweet ending" with the term art. Because frankly, I find it an insult to my intellect to state I cannot enjoy the ending because I do not understand art, and am therefore an entitled whiner.

As far as you all talking about the low score as compared to the rest, keep in mind it's a literature review site, therefore it's going to focus on the story more than anything else, which includes it's final score.

Why do I hear Dr. Frasier Crane's voice when I read this?
But seriously, AWESOME read. Thanks, OP!

That's a great review and I'm glad there are still people out there who are willing to factor negatives in their review instead of giving a big franchise game the obligatory 8 to 10/10.

That's pretty much "it" for the ending now. If it fails at everything, was it ever anything?

Great review from an unbiased standpoint imo.
Hold the line.

I really REALLY don't want to say this but I have to completely agree with this review, I really hope that someone at Bioware reads this and that this is passed on to Casey or Mac.

I agree with his opinion on the game reviewers that gave Mass Effect 3 10/10. They're all jokes, reviewing a game like it's a math quiz.

Addendum:
I received no small amount of Literary Analysis education back in the day and this review sums it up perfectly. I have, as I'm sure others have as well, forwarded it to the Take Back Facebook page however this should be spread around as far as possible.
I've submitted it to Fark.com (And I suggest others do as well) and, if anyone knows of online 'zines that would allow for that possibility, this review should be flung in the teeth of all the other so called 'professional game reviewers' out there.
This review does not have to be agreed with, but it comes a Hell of a lot closer to actuality than IG's which came pre-loaded with stock phrases.

This thread is gold. Great read and great laughs. Below are my favourite comments:
"During its final moments it commits storytelling suicide, and the taste of decay it leaves in the mouth cripples the otherwise impeccable quality of what came before, poisoning even nostalgia against it"
"Deus Ex Machina is "God in the Machine", or as they call it at Bioware: Boy in the Citadel"
"Especially in the case of Mass Effect 3 since it redefines the entire experience . . . in about the same way being left at the altar by a spouse ditching you for your mom redefines a relationship."
