I like it when games are treated like another way to approach and tackle philosophical problems and questions. RPGs are an especially good medium to do that in because it can provide a question and then have us see a few different ways of responding - akin to a philosophical debate and questioning human nature.
I'm disappointed the author dismissed the Indoctrination Theory so out of hand, but at the same time, I appreciate how it treats the ending, if taken literally, like it's just trying too hard to be clever and abandons established themes in the process. I personally find "integrity of the story" arguments compelling because ME3 sets up a conclusion for those themes so well and clutches them closely until the last ten minutes. Or 4.46 minutes. I wish he had done a more spoilered version so he could go into detail about the problems, but as a short (if emotionally-laden and broad) review, it does passably in explaining how the ending abandons the WWII-in-space build-up for a Kafka-Fitzgerald mutant of a conclusion.
And:
"Since Garrus couldn’t get any more awesome than he was, he remains thankfully unchanged." Yes. Win.

it could haven been a 4.5/5 if they didn't go with "wooo this ending sounds cool, eventhough it doesn't make any sense when analysed for 3 seconds".
I never trusted Casey Hudson, he was a marketing guy all along, i can still hear his disingenuous interviews about this game and it's predecessor, atleast ME2 had some level of closure.

The gestalt of Mass Effect 3 is an end unjustified by its means, unworthy of defense. During its final moments it commits storytelling suicide, and the taste of decay it leaves in the mouth cripples the otherwise impeccable quality of what came before, poisoning even nostalgia against it. At best and being fair to the game’s other traits, the quality comes out a wash – simply mediocre.
This is beautiful.

And I do agree with him on the game reviewers. A lot seem to focus more on game play than story, often ignoring the story sometimes.

Last 5-10 minutes destroy everything you have done for the past 140 hours (whole series). It contradicts everything and makes the entire thing seem pointless. Yes it ruins the series. I could have skipped the entire game, went straight to the end, and I would be at the same point I am now.Nexis7 wrote...

(And no, writer, it wasn't nihilism. And since destroying the Reapers was always going to be genocide, you better have been complaining about it before. And the Reapers were only super-imposing if you didn't think on how they could have easily ****ed things up by acting smarter in the other games.)
If you think the current endings aren't fundamentally nihilistic, you either don't understand the logical consequences of the endings, or you don't understand nihilism.

It's a real blow to BioWare considered their main selling point is telling stories :/

The genocide is about the geth. Think before talk=win.
Genocide is a tool in Shepard's tool box, whether you admit to it or not.
