It isn't fair that *very minor spoilers* Steve and Samantha are exclusive to one sex.

give me a break. In real life I can't make some hot lesbian date me

Maybe you cant (and I couldnt either, I admit that) but there are men who can.
It all comes down to how much you leveled Charisma. Sadly I made the mistake to go with mainly intelligenceB)

Its not whether I can or can't.  Its more of a respect thing for me.  I have friends who are lesbian and gay.  I have never tried to "attract" them.

But that doesn't implicitly make sense. They're similar enough that sexual attraction can occur, although probably not purely from the physical side unless either party has a very particular fetish. In that regard, both Tali and Liara make more sense. And Thane, I guess.

Now, if Shepard had been a Yahg...

No it is the same with Quarians. Like Turians, they are dextro-amino based and therefore incompatible with humans.

The point however is, that attraction can therefore occur purely based on character, not looks or "chemistry".

This, in turn, means that both for Tali and Garrus being straight makes no sense at all - they CAN NOT be sexually attracted to Shepard, it just isnt possible unless we assume they are severely mentally disturbed.

And if it is attraction based on character, then why would Shepard's gender matter?

I know about the prothein part, but there's at least one dialogue in ME2 that indicates that while people with different prothein stuff makeup obviously can't procreate, they won't implode if they have sex either.

As for me. No I won't be happy as long as someone's restricted. I really wanted my dude Shep to romance Garrus. Like burning. :crying:

I can't tell you how happy I am that didn't happen. He is my favourite character and the way BioWare dealt with him in ME3 was just perfect.

But isn't this like real life, you might fancy someone but they prefer the other sex. Just be thankful you can create a gormless Sheperd and still get into bed with women like Miranda or Liara, because unless you have money or a six pack that doesn't happen in real life.

Same. However, I also have straight female friends (in fact more than homosexual ones) and I havent tried to woo THEM either. Bros before hoes.

I dont really see how this matters for the discussion here, though. Shepard is quite obviously NOT afraid of making a move on friends and crewmembers.

it may be true for your shepard.   afterall we are role playing right?  The bottom line is that I think its great that some NPCs are not be interested in Shepard in a sexual way.

Yeah yeah. Lucky for you. <_<

Garrus
is a established character, and making him bi would be hurtful to the
story. Steve and Samantha are also decently designed characters, and
"bending" story just to fit the play would make it seem forced.

Uh...no it wouldn't. NVM that him romancing femShep in the first place is ridculous. (Let alone Tali).

Well, hey. You understand the plight from
FemShep players. Suppose that's what matters in the grand scheme of it.
Poor execution from anyone can sour just about anything, but I'm
definitely sure there's enough of that going around on the forums as it
is. :/

It is for yours as well, unless you didnt romance anyone in each of the 3 ME games, because every single LI is a friend and / or Crewmember (well except Diana Allers maybe).

Like most people, I dislike the "everyone is bi" approach. It's unrealistic and cheap.

If Bioware wants to make gay characters - fine. But not everyone is gay or bi. Don't make every single character that way. DA2 was a failure for many reasons - everyone being bi is one of them.

DA2's "everyone being bi." had nothing to do with it's failure.

I hate when people try to act like that's why the game was badly received. It wasn't. It may be a big deal to you but most of the gaming industry doesn't care about romances straight, gay, what the hell ever. They care about graphics, gameplay and environments. Which is where DA2 was severely lacking.

DAO wouldn't have tanked if all the LIs had been bi and DA2 wouldn't have been well received if only Anders and Isabela were bi romances.

Quarian bodies are virtually identical to humans; where are you getting this ridiculous "mentally disturbed" notion from?

I was angry when Garrus wasn't allowed to be an MShep romance, and was even more enraged when Wrex and Major Kirrahe weren't romance options for MShep (or FShep) either... at least this game was smart enough to have exclusive S/S romances... just angry that they chose the characters I hated most for it...

Quarians are dextro-DNA based, like Turians. They have NOTHING in common with humans.
And their bodies being similar doesnt mean sh!t - so are the geth's bodies, or in RL those of monkeys, and nevertheless most humans consider it a problem if people have sex with monkeys.

Are you honestly comparing having sex with a quarian to having sex with a monkey? In that case, I know there's not even a point in arguing with you.

Biologically speaking, Monkeys are infinitely more like humans than Quarians are. That is a fact, and I do not wish to discuss the moral aspects of either action.

I think it's more realistic. What's not realistic is for a character (say Jack) to do a complete 180 so you can have a romance option. People don't do this in "real life". At least not on a dime. It makes the characters more believable.

Um... no. I think it's far better they didn't go the DA2 "Everyone is magically bi" route. People have their own preferences. I'd have hated for the Shepard-Garrus bromance to suddenly turn down a VERY uncomfortable path.

That was the biggest problem with the first game - it was difficult to speak to a member of the opposite sex without initiating a romance with them. If we followed your suggestion OP, we'd be walking through a minefield of jilted would-be lovers from talking to ANYONE ON THE CREW.

But Garrus is special anyways because honestly - they couldnt really DO anything intimate either way because Turians and humans are physically incompatible.
