It isn't fair that *very minor spoilers* Steve and Samantha are exclusive to one sex.

So long as it doesn't go back to 'straight player characters get the full LI buffet, but gay/bi ones get a limited serving'.

Should have made Vega a straight romance. That way most people could have been happy. 2 straight (Ash/Vega), 2 bi (Liara/Kaidan) and 2 ****** (Samantha and Steve).
Agreed. TBH I am really surprised he isnt, when I told him nicknames are a no-go and he said "Your loss" I figured that usually he WOULD be one and I just turned him away forever (which, of course, was the reason I did).

Ok, that may be a little unfair, but again, it's like real life, and real life isn't fair.

Eh Vega should've been bi. Yeah it wouldn't have been even but the previous two games aren't even. Plus Traynor and Steve aren't squaddie LIs. If their MUST be a new straight LI only it should've been Adams or something.
Plus you get the your loss bit with dude Shep too.

I initially thought Vega was going to be gay anyway. Glad Bioware handled the romances the way they did, I romanced Ashley, and was nice to Cortez, but the game never started up a love triangle unintentionally like in the other games.

Likewise, when my male shepard mentioned the "hard bed" I thought it was leading to a romance but I was wrong.

Yeah, I liked how you could indirectly point at "sorry pal, I'm straight" when Cortez tried to make a pass at you.Logan Cloud wrote...

It felt much more believable and realistic to have him "testing the water" and Shep answering "I prefer women" than the ridiculous DA2 way.

Indeed, because all bi is the best.
it is just that, personally, I dont care much because I play exclusively female characters whenever you get to choose your character's gender.

As far as it being "not fair", I'm a straight woman, but I'm thinking many gay or bi players found it not fair when they were really interested in a strictly heterosexual character. So now, everyone knows what it is like, haha. Besides... I do prefer the more realistic approach of having a little bit of every kind of person...rather than having everyone bi just so anyone can romance anyone. It's just so weird to me... not every single character would be bi. Not every single one would be straight or gay, most likely, either. I like the variety. Adds character.

Yeah, I like how it set it up as Shep and Cortez scoping out the respective talent for their sides and the two of them becoming great friends anyway.

It doesn't really matter with Steve, since content-wise (both romance and non-romance scenes) he's basically a squadmate. Tali for example got less than him. Agree on Traynor thoughRyzaki wrote...

This. It seems petty for me as a straight gamer to complain that some characters were gay-only when gay gamers barely have any games with gay-only LI's.
On a different note, I am totally fine with the "everyone is bi" romances in Dragon Age II. The game's great strength was in its characters so I liked interacting with the four LI's with my different Hawkes in different capacities, regardless of gender. I am also fine with Mass Effect's "some people are gay, some people are bi, some people are straight approach." One doesn't have to be better than the other as long as you're striving towards inclusiveness.

It's a great thing to have characters that are exclusively gay or exclusively straight, but I don't like that we're still stuck in a situation where one type of character development is locked off because of you playing a male or female character.
More content for everyone!

So back to the topic, I don't mind strictly gay characters, I don't mind "everyone's bi" policy, but I do mind substance in a character. How come Shepard became suddenly aware he/she could be gay ? Oo
(Like Liara says, Asari don't count ^^)

Edit: However I think I would prefer more content for a romance... if making only a few, bisexual romances meant better romance content, then I would be up for that.

While I'm perfectly fine with Sam and Cortez being restricted to one sex, I found it extremely odd that Ashley was kept straight and not made bisexual like Kaidan.
Well you shouldn't be perfectly fine, additudes like that are what help bring about this mess. Give me a good reason why Steve and Samantha should strictly be gay romance options.
Because there are so many straight characters in the game.
I can see why you would want everyone to be bi, but then start with complaining about Ashley, Garrus, Tali, Thane and Jack. Why start with two minor non-squad characters who only appeared in ME3?
