Because if you had 1. In your face/class setup, the options for "hetero/gay" and you selected hetero. The whole galaxy will know that you are hetero, because the "news pamphlet" told them. or 2. I find it really frustrating to speak with male characters in Bioware games lately ( specifically Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3). I am speaking with a guy having a normal conversation and suddenly he is hitting on me or confessing a romantic interest and I have no clue what the hell just happened because my guy has clearly been going after the ladies? How about an option to choose be gay up front, that way the people who are in to that can have their option and I don't have to find myself uncomfortable everytime I talk with a male character.
If you can answer the question of how everyone in the galaxy knows you are straight without even meeting you, then yes.
Can we get a straight/gay/lesbian option at the beginning of the game?`

You can't *choose* what orientation you are. Reality suggests that everyone flirts with you, despite that, and adding an orientation option in character creation is just wrong!
If you don't like it, reload if you made a mistake in a convo, and just click the REJECT option. It's as simple as that.
Sexual orientation does not define anybody, why should it define Shepard.

There's better stuff to be putting in a so called pamphlet on Shepard than "Omg he/she is gay, look out world!" like some trashy magazine.

Then maybe, maybe all those guys who b****, moan and complain about having a guy hit on their "super hetro hero" they are playing will shut up. I don't want to encourage that sort of behaviour but like I said maybe they shut up at the "gayness" shoved in their face. And god do I want them to shut up.
Seriously I get POed by all the Asari hitting on my Shepard all the time and I am not b****ing about it, I understand that this is what can happen in real life, people who you don't like, aren't attracted to, want to punch in the face, are going to hit on you and responding to it in a mature way is what an adult would do.

The example of Cortez, I saw no conversation that implicated you hitting on him, unless you call being friendly as hitting on. You have the single escape/go in one statement in Purgatory and that's the end... either that or I'm missing part of the game.
Haven't had Kaiden involved, so I can't comment on that.
DA2 did this quite often, but this isn't the DA2 forum, so I'm ignoring it.

I haven't played DA2, but I liked their idea of heart icons? Or what are they? It basically helps you know if the "dialogue" choice you are about to make, will start a romance between you and said person. I have seen many complaints from people saying that since Cortez was gay, they were concerned that saying something nice, or hitting the "paragon quicktime" would start a romance they didn't want.
Do these people press spacebar to ignore chat? If they listen they will know when to avoid a romance. <_<

This thread is entitled to exist, and that is some backwards logic, it is mostly situational, although I won't lie men are normally the aggressors in initiating relationships/dating/fling attempts.
Additionally, even I found my shepard making a homosexual remark to James, which had me facepalming when it happened since I take all my considerations very carefully, and I intentionally avoided Cortez so I wouldn't have to deal with poor design ruining my ME3 experience further.

It has nothing to do with "skipping" chat. The problem is 2 fold. 1. You don't know if the option to "say something nice" means "hey man, I am here for you any time, if you know what I mean *wink wink*Biotic_Warlock wrote...

2. Ever since Bioware left the strategy of WYSIWYG in the dialogue tree, you can never really know EXACTLY what you are going to say. That if anything pisses me off more than the 1st problem I mentioned. I mean, there were so many random moments when Shephard said something I completely didn't want him to say.
Btw, when you talk to Joker in the bar, there is a KEY moment where you decide if he is going to be with EDI or not. You would think the option "but you are stupid Joker" would be something mean (renegade) and not something you would want to say. Turns out, that is EXACTLY what you need to say for him to go with EDI...
I am sure this post will remain up as long as it remains civil, and stays productive. Otherwise it would have been locked a long time ago.

As for Cortez - that was pretty cool. I liked how they let you harmlessly diffuse the situation. I can see how the guy might get the impression that you were a little sweet on him if you were compassionate about his situation (guy lost a close friend, obviously he needs support), but you're not stuck with "GTFO you big fruitcake!" as your only response.

I'm straight but I been claiming from the first two games that there should be homosexual relationships. I have friends in rl that are gay. However, I understand your option in the game. Right after Thane died on me, I had two lesbians hitting on me. Although I am not against chicks going for femshep, the timing on that was extremely poor. I only wish for an option so I didn't have to deal with it. But I understand for men who are straight, this comes off extremely uncomfortable. My late husband would have been uncomfortable as well. He had nothing against gay people.. but I know for a straight guy... it's weird. So yeah, I support an option only because of this reason. I don't see why it should offend anyone else.
Adding these options shouldn't offend anyone as I said prior (if it does they have their own issues and need to mature), it would fit with what you were born, could go along with that spacer/colonist etc stuff, and therefore would make perfect sense. Adding the option at start would save everyone headaches.

Except Bioware. Would receive MAJOR flak from either side of the arguement. One side would say that "Oh my God. How can you put such an obvious option of homosexuality in there!" The other side would say "Oh my God. Do you really need to censor homosexuality? Why wasn't there ever an option when there was heterosexual romances?" Etc. etc.DRUNK_CANADIAN wrote...

My opinion is that of that you already have an option. It's called dialog choices. You either choose to get with them or don't. We don't have toggles for renegades/paragon dialogs. Or alien romance dialog. Or romances in general. Either do or you don't.

Ohh the irony and hypocrisy. The only reason you and your buddies campaign for this is because you have issues and ain't mature at all. You just want to disable "teh gays" from hitting on you. Newsflash, people hit on people and can't disable each other from doing it. Deal with your insecurities and grow upDRUNK_CANADIAN wrote...

Indeed. In ME3 there are cases where top right is renegade and the bottom is paragon.
