How is that realistic, though? No one can ever tell someone's sexual preferences upon meeting them.

Unless your greeting is "Hi! I'm Joe and I love to chase p***y!"

In which case, you REALLY need to learn the definition of the acronym TMI.

I like this. I think this is how I will introduce myself from now on.

I'd find that the most stupid thing ever. It's unrealistic and I'd have a hard time taking them seriously if they were all shepsexual.

Where do you even get your statistics from? It's around 10%, and that's not counting people in the closet who fear for their lives because it's "wrong" in their religion or culture. Also the fact that EVERYONE is at neither extremes of 100% straight or 100% homosexual.

Sorry if I have a double post but I read this immediately after I posted and it's the most stupid thing i've seen today.

10% of the worlds 7 billion+ population is gay? Wow. That's 1 in 10 people.

Who are you trying to kid with that stupid statistic?

Actually I heard that statistic myself as well though I can't remember where it came from.

I find it really frustrating to speak with male characters in Bioware games lately ( specifically Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3).  I am speaking with a guy having a normal conversation and suddenly he is hitting on me or confessing a romantic interest and I have no clue what the hell just happened because my guy has clearly been going after the ladies?  How about an option to choose be gay up front, that way the people who are in to that can have their option and I don't have to find myself uncomfortable everytime I talk with a male character.

Awwwww, they hitting on you....perhaps you should just shoot them in the beginning of the game and you won't have to worry about them looking at your sexy self....*passes you some ammo*....feel better luv, no more gays to worry about, now play nice.;)

maybe he shouldn´t use the flirtoptions the whole time XD

That is the only way I would vote for that...

The whole toggle thing is hypocritical, why is it all right for a straight MShep to complain that Trayner is a FShep only romance due to her Sexual Orientation yet people get chewed out for wanting a MShep romance with Garrus... its not all right at all, you can't randomly change a character's orientation, just because you like them.

Traynor is pretty much states right at the beggining she is a Lesbian (or throughout the game) Garrus, Tali, Jack and many others pretty much don't ever confirm their orientation throughout the whole franchise... Well, Jack and Tali both pretty much state that they are bi, and Garrus hints at it in ME2... but I digress... also where is the Major Kirrahe romance with MShep!!!

Okay,I just know I hooked up with Miranda and Kaidan never tried anything nor there was such option. And I talked with him every chance I got.

All potential LIs in ME3 work the same way - if you're already in relationship with someone, the rest automatically switches to friendship zone permanently. You can't have "flirting triangles" (wanted or unwanted) like in ME1 or ME2. The only exception may be Diana Allers.

They should have made the game more realistic, and randomly selected your sexuality for you at the start of the game, without you being aware of it.

So, for example, a fifth of the Shepards in Mass Effect 3 might find out that they've actually been in the closet all along (if not earlier in the series).

Why has no RPG done this yet?

Actually, only about 1% of the world's population is gay. Bioware panders to that 1% it seems. I don't care who is gay, I just don't want the gay agenda shoved down my throat. And the game should reflect a realistic gay population instead of having 50%+ of the characters in the game gay.

Oh, having the game select a sexuality for the player is one of the worst suggestions I've ever seen.  If I wanted to role play a gay character I would. Having a flag at the beginning of the game would be nice.

2 gay romonces out of a possible 13 romances = half of population in the game is gay.

Seems legit.

2?  I thought you could have gay romances with Garrus and Kaiden as well?

Garrus and Kaiden fall under Bi in my book.

Actually I heard that statistic myself as well though I can't remember where it came from.

That statistic is what is given wehn people are educated on homosexuality. The issue with it is that even in the homosexual community declaring oneself as bisexual is considered to be just looking for attention or straddling the fence to avoid penalization. Many african-americans will also not admit to being homosexual and instead consider themselves on the "down low" because of the negative social connotations and personality traits associated with being "gay". It's considered a way of holding onto your masculinity while still being able to indulge in what feels natural to you.

I ran the GSA(gay straight alliance) at my high school and one of my English teachers assigned the down low article as a reading assignment.

Then all you'd have to do is put the toggle on Straight. You'd never have to see it. :P

@King Gigglez: It's the only way I'd agree for it as well.

So they tested around 1,000 people and have assumed that 5% of the world is gay?

Sounds legit.

Admittedly, that is hard in ME3 because usually your dialogue options are:

Top Right: Oh you so sweet wanna bone?
Bottom Right: GO DIE IN HELL YOU F*CKING IDIOT I DONT LIKE YOU AND YOUR MUM!

And nothing else.

It really isnt, and if you think it is you should probably not play RPGs because they are all about options.

Do the words "political ****storm" mean anything to you?

(I think it would be a great idea, but can you imagine Faux News getting ahold of that little gem? Game forces impressionable teenagers- since that is their idea of the average gamer- to play as a gay person!)

Because it would be a lot less uncomfortable for people who want to interact with the gay characters.

You want to see the statistics, look them up yourself man, it's not my job to educate you and you can just as easily google this.
This may get you started though if you really do feel like looking into this and curing some of your ignorance on the topic.

Protip: Any study ran by a group with "ethics" or "family" in the name is going to claim that homoseuxality doesn't exist.

Because it's a game and I'd rather have more romance options than be restricted.

AS for someone putting the toggle on straight. It's just so they don't have to see the m/m stuff and have it "ruin" their impression of a friendship between their character and another.

And besides that doesn't make sense from an evolution point of view if 90% of us were bisexual.

Men having nipples doesnt make sense from an evolutionary PoV either.

Still almost 100% of men have them.

*Almost* 100%?

*Goes to do some research.* For science, of course.

I know it´s hard , I as a homosexual woman, don´t want to be forced in straight romances too,and I don´t like the fact in the game, that males hitting on my female Shepard the whole time or like in Star Wars ToR for example, where stupid companion guys always drool on your female Char...

no one cares, because it´s about a problem homosexual people have,though....

Seeing that would be the funniest thing ever though, regardless of how stupid said news corp was... it would just be really funny to watch them bash something like that without knowing what 5 x 2 is... and then the SNL skit that would be done on the said bashing would even be funnier
