Hi all
I've searched the Forum and read all the other threads about Trap making bugs etc.. I wanted to make a new one that was specific to my playing experience.
Since the start of the game I have not bee able to "Detect" traps. My main is a Rogue Dwarf Commoner. I'm at level 8 now and I still can't detect traps. I have Improved Tools, Trap making 1, Cunning is 22, Dex is 22.
I don't even get traps highlighted to attempt to click on them. I even tried removing all the characters Items and switching to walk mode.
I've tested all the suggestions made in other forums in the lower ruins in Brecilia Forest. I stand right next to where I know a trap is and nada, nothing. It's pretty annoying having to set off all the traps when my main is a Rogue.
Hopefully someone can help.
Thanks

Trap detection has nothing at all to do with the Trap making skill. It is entirely based on your Devices talent (same as the one for lockpicking) and your Cunning score. The tooltip for the trap making skill which claims to increase detection range is a bug. It does nothing at all.
I'm guessing those particular traps are just unusually difficult to spot. I noticed in the Dalish elf origin that the traps you run into on your second visit to the ruins are difficulty 20. i.e. the only way a new rogue is going to see them is with rank one tools AND at least a 20 cunning... and you're level 3 at that point. So perhaps whoever did the area design for the Brecilian forest was just more harsh on trap difficulty than the rest of the game and that's what you're seeing in the treaty mission as well.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Maybe so, I guess I'll only know for sure when I visit another area.
In the Tower of Ostagar quest at the very start, I couldn't detect the tripwire at the very start either.
I have the lockpicking talent at level 2 and as I said my cunning is at 22. I just assumed that would be enough to detect at least one of the traps I set off.
I'll post back here when I get out of these damn dungeons
