Do you have any of your summonable armies left? I don't think I've ever been attacked by more than six or seven darkspawn over the course of that entire battle; I just let the elves pick them off while I focus on the archdemon.

Keep your party seperated. There's a lot of AOE going on from the Dragon and if you have them all grouped up it makes things much more difficult. Let the ranged attackers stay ranged and when one of them gets attacked, stop the attack using things like Crushing Prison, Petrify, Glyph of Paralysis, ect. Get your warrior on the attacking mob asap or use taunt to pull the mobs off.
Don't let your team auto attack at all. They will pull in all sorts of attention that you don't want. Micromanage using the pause button to control this or at the very least set up tactics so they only attack what your tank is attacking. Let your tank do what he wants but try not to let him get in over his head. Pulling in 10 or so enemies is probably not a good idea. I tried to let the army around us do most of the darkspawn fighting. They do a good job of it if you let them. The darkspawn I focused on primarily were the Alpha's since they are tough and can kill several of the lesser army guys who are much better spent killing the weaker darkspawn.
Watch the dragon's AOE closely and move your group out of it asap or it will do you in quickly. If your mage has a damage over time spell like Blizzard, or even Walking Bomb, that you can put on the dragon, do that as often as possible when you aren't directly engaged with it. Chug potions regularly. Don't just depend on the mage heals. It's a very long fight with a ton of AOE damage and you need to keep everyone topped off. That's a tough job for a healer. I had two healers and still chugged potion just to be safe. Watch everyone and try not to let anyone fall below 50% health.
As soon as the dragon lands in a place where you can fight it get your tank on it asap and pour on the damage. Hit it with everything you've got but keep your warrior taunting and using threaten so the dragon stays on him. If he has good magic resistance and decent armor he won't take much damage. I hardly had to heal him at all when he was on the dragon. Keep that up and it won't be long before you win the fight.

mmm as you have not wyn i suppose you have also heals, maybe spirit healer?
as Dasim said keep the melee chars splitted, you should ideally form a triangle around the dragon
Alistair is your main tank, make sure he have the shield buff active (eventually diable the option in tactic windows that makes him change buff if hit by ranged attack). Give the helm you loot from the first general to Alistair too (the one with 75% spirit res)
on oghream keep only indomitable active
while on shale you can chose both a tank stance or the melee one. if you have good spirit crystals put them on
disable various Alistair moves (you need him to taunt, not to waste action on useless stuff) when he is near the dragon use the taunt so he get aggro, shale and og are immune to knockdown so they should be quite ok.
when you did that call reinforcements (the ones you have the most, even soldiers are ok) and position you char to the nearest ballista. keep alistair up with your heals and, if you have plenty of potion use arcane bolt, and winter grasp on the dragon (even the light one if you have it). if Alistair get grabbed and the dragon start to eat him try to interrupt him, you can use cone of cold for that or can try with ogrhen kb.
keep going and if you dont have mezzes dont bother with darkspawn, eventually you can throw them a blizzard, but is better to not draw much attention.
the dragon sometimes will take off and land elsewhere, just repeat... reposition your melee chars, go to nearest ballista, make Alistair taunt and keep him alive with heals and potions... if he goest in an area where your group cant reach him, go with ballista and blizzard/inferno

Honestly, the archdemon is and has been the easiest fight in the game for me. I do the same thing everytime. Bring along Wynne and Alistair, myself and a random person last. If I want it done faster, I'll bring Leliana, specced Archer.
Simply add a tactic for everyone to drink / heal when needed (you should have plenty of potions at this point from the chest in the previous room or bought from Sandal). Then switch the main character to ranged and Leliana to ranged and trigger the mages from the dial of forces.
I stand just left of when you come in up the first group of stairs near the wall, I never get stomped and the fight takes about...5-10 mins max. No one dies.
Very very easy fight imo...
