It's true that changing the endings would require admitting that they'd made a mistake. A terrible mistake.

Quite possibly a career-ending mistake.

Those are good reasons to avoid admitting the mistake, and it's quite likely that they won't.

But that ending was still a mistake.

Loved the ending. I'd buy the DLC just to play more of the game though.

If we step away from the poor mechanics of the ending and the the logical inconsistency we are still left with a big problem.
The ending missed what the consumers wanted/expected. And it was not a worthy replacement. It was crap. It gave no choice, it didn't have internal consistency. (no, no it didn't. I can't argue this point here because the sky is blue and water is wet. It's no point in explaining this to someone who doesn't get it)

So it doesn't matter that a few people think it worked since it will cost Bioware all my money. And a lot of other peoples money. They didn't create dissatisfied customers, they created a movement oof people willing to spend time and money to counter Biowares businesses. That is a clear indication that they screwed up. If you create enemies out of loyal customers in the numbers Bioware did then you know you did bad.

You can argue all you like, because it does have internal consistency, Njald.

It all makes perfect sense if you start linking up the symbolism that pervades the three (but especially the last) games.
Purgatory, control versus free will, ascending in a bright white light (usually ever only has one meaning.. and it isn't alien abduction).. even the name 'Shepard'.
