Did anyone else get that all advanced civilizations die out, especially the humans, in every ending?
All the different civilizations are based on trade, and have been for thousand plus years. That means that all their agriculture and technology has evolved to a point that trade with other civilizations is required in order to maintain current levels. Once it's gone, most are not going to be able to retrofit to a point where sustainability is actually viable. This is why Japan attacked the USA in WW2. We stopped the flow of oil to them, which caused them, as a trade nation, to react violently or die.
So, every civilization that has advanced to a point where they rely on trade, is about to starve down to pre-trade levels or (more likely) die off.
Also, everyone on the Normandy (which for some reason was going through the relay rather than helping the fight to save Earth) is dead. They landed on some random world. The chances of any of the plants or animals there being digestible to the crew is about nil. Also, because there are no longer any relays, no one is coming to save them. This is the Battlestar Galactica type ending problem. The more advanced a people are, the less likely they are to survive roughing it long term. Think anyone on the Normandy can farm or make leather. At least they have a doctor, but a lot of her treatments are based on drugs she can't produce and procedures that she needs tech for.
So they're all dead.
What about Earth? At least that's safe, right?
Sorry. Nope. All dead.
Even if the Reapers didn't destroy the agriculture of Earth (which I don't think they did but who knows, obviously the writers didn't think through any of this), the "Largest Fleet in History" is now stuck there, without the ability to leave due to the Mass Effect Relays being gone. Some races, the Krogan for example, are doomed to starvation and misery due to the inability to digest Earth food. They will rapidly devolve into destructive anarchy as they fight over the dwindling resources. This will surely spill over onto Earth, continuing to ravage Earth's ever more meager resources.
The Aliens that can eat Earth food are going to start warring with each other and the humans over what little food Earth can provide. And everyone is armed to the teeth, psychologically scarred over the inability to return home, and getting more desperate every day.
Anyway you cut it, no more Earth and no more Humans.
So not only are the different endings incongruous with the philosophical ideas and themes put forth by everything that came before, they don't even fit Bioware's statement that the ending is about sacrifice for the greater good, unless that is they mean the sacrifice of every advanced race and civilization in the galaxy.
