Soon people will be creating fanart with Weekes disguised as Batman, and Dombrow as Robin.

Seriously. Patrick is a great guy who wrote tons of amazing stuff in ME3. But he ain't impeccable, no one is, and other writers did great things too, including Mac Walters. This entire "Mac = everything bad, Patrick = everything great" reasoning on BSN is some nonsense childish logic for people who can only grasp the reality of art creation as black & white with pristine heroes and bad evil villains who hate fans and wait in the shadows, plotting how to screw up the franchises.

Agreed.  I'm sure all the writers have good and bad... the problem is: Mac Walters does not appear to be a good lead writer.  That doesn't mean Patrick or John would have done an epic job.  If Patrick's post is to be believed -- personally, I give it a bit of weight since it came from his personal handle -- the problem was not enough collaboration.

Most people will agree that Mac Walters is a good character writer, where people get down on him is story. He is a terrible story writer. The stories in the games and comics he has been in charge of writing for have been, imo, terrible. I won't criticize him for his characters, and I don't see anybody on the forums even say his characters are bad, it is the story that he should not be in charge of.

Mac Walters is a good writer, the ending is good, but very subtle and demanding on the playerbase to fuly appriciate it. Your average casual gamers will throughally enjoy beating the game and not get fed up with having an "unappriciated" ending. That's really a part of the minority of gamers.

Altho, I do believe Mac Walters might feel more of a character-maker writer if anything. He did afterall deliver some very interesting characters through-out the series. And I think that Patrick Weekes handles the emotional and storyline archs somewhat better.

Is it wrong that his list covers about 90% of what I liked about ME:3?

Holy crap...

You know some people like to eat boiled eggs, and some people apparently like to eat boiled eggs that are pickled/boiled in urine. What I'm getting at is those people have screwed up ideas about what is good... I'm being subtle here now. I'm elluding to something... I'm such a great poster... because I can be subtle... and I like to use periods...

... and I completely agree in that regard.  Perhaps this whole fiasco was unavoidable with writer shifts and lack of a clear vision from the beginning.  I think a big challenge they had to tackle in ME3 was how to end the series.  They set the bar too high with too much ambition (i.e. too many diverging player paths on top of them advertising how personalized and how influential your experience and decisions would be) and, as a result, shot themselves in the foot.  Whoever was in charge of the ending, it's clear they were trying to shock and create an epic moment... but, sadly, something obviously got lost in translation.

Not only is Patrick Weekes a fantastic writer, He is hilarious. Not only did he come up with Blasto, I saw one of his tweets, here on BSN, about Tali's sweat smelling like cinnamon or something and I was dying laughing

Anyone have that tweet handy? I don't use twitter

Just out of curiosity who are the other writers, besides Mac Walters and Patrick Weekes?

I know there were at least two other women doing a lot of the writing, beyond that, not sure.
Edit: First names Ann and Sylvia.

Mr. Weekes wasn't responsible for the Mass Effect 3 ending, but we'll unfortunately, always remember that. ^_^

So he's the one who wrote fetch quests, the Journal, that awful forced Joker argument scene? See what I did there? No one's perfect, stop using him to bash other writers. Especially since you don't work at Bioware and you were NOT there and didn't see what was happening. This forum's "need" to have a "hero" in this endings drama is so childish.

Mentioning the Journal isn't fair, because that was added last-minute only when it became obvious it was necessary. BioWare tried to avoid including it.

Well, we all know Patrick Weekes is the deadliest SoB in gamer space, but there were other guys like Mike Gamble, who've also largely contributed to the positive aspects of ME. Never forget Drew Karpyshyn.

Question of the year : who wrote the ending ? The janitor ?

Don't insult the janitors intelligence, given the way bioware assigns people to their jobs, the janitor is probably the most capable guy there......
