Hi everyone, I'm hoping I get some opinions on my work in progress Rogue.  Specifically is it better to use an axe, which does more overall damage, or a dagger which brings more crits and attacks faster.  I've already obtained The Rose's Thorn, The Edge, Duncans Dagger, and The Thorn of Dead Gods for my dagger selection.  And I have the Aodh, and the Bloodline waraxes I can choose from.

But, even though I've done a lot of reading of posts here at the Bioware Forum and the Dragon Age Wiki, I can't seem to find the answer to my question:  Should I use the higher damage waraxe in my main hand, or should I use one of my daggers for thier higher critical chance and and greater armor penetration.

I have level 4 stealth and I usually enter a battle with my bow, but as soon as the enemy gets into melee range I go for crits and backstabs.  I just started wondering if I should be using a waraxe in my mainhand.  I've been using The Rose's Thorn (main hand) and The Edge (off hand).  Could I improve by changing things up a bit?

Thank so much if you have the time to help me with this. :)

Backstabbing is better with the daggers. If you play like me and do more face to face then the axe may be a better choice, but for backstabs go with double daggers.

I generally do not do much micro-managing of my characters. I prefer to use the tactics menu and let the characters run on AI. So with that in mind...

I prefer to have my melee rogue use a sword and dagger, and later on two full-sized swords. So I put enough points into strength to equip the swords. The mage in my team always has Telekinetic Weapons activated, so that is how I get a bonus to armor penetration for all melee fighters.

As I said, this is goes with the style I prefer to play.

The only other point I would make is that armor penetration is just that: armor penetration and not damage per se. If the fighter's armor penetration score is greater than the opponent's armor value, there is no benefit that accrues. Damage, on the other hand, will always be of value. So I tend to value a weapon's damage value above its armor penetration value.

Just my own take on it, of course.

I may be a bit late to the party, but with my main Rogue I went with two daggers. It's all about playstyle; if you like lots of nice, big numbers from backstabbing get two daggers (believe I went Roses Thorn and Thorn of the Dead Gods, but it's been a while) and put in the best paralyzing runes you can find in both of them, along with elemental damages. If you play as more of a tankish rogue, go with an axe or two. Overall, the backstab and dagger route will net you more DPS.

Go with what ever gives you the best stun+backstab chances.
