If i should judge them in order out of the enjoyment i got from them:
ME-2
ME-1
ME-3
But there is only one order to play the trilogy, 1 2 3...Then you get the most out of the series.

I guess, bah screw it, I rate them as the Lord of the Rings-Trilogy, everyone is equal and good in their own way, ME for the story and atmosphere, ME2 for the charactes and LotSB, ME3 for it's gameplay and emotional scenes.

To be quite honest, ME's scale was far more epic than any of the games since.
Much much larger maps, vehicles, more side quests(at least it felt like it).

Number 3 would have topped my list but, yep you guessed it. Also, I didn't feel as in control of Shep at certain points in compared to ME 1 and 2.

1. ME1. Of course, it has its flaws, mainly with the repetitive side quests, but the atmosphere it brought was left largely unmatched.
2. ME2. Close second; lots of content, better gameplay, a lot of characters, but not a lot of interaction with them.
3. ME3. This would have been at the top of the list as it excels at mostly everything except the conclusion.

3 is a bit of a problem tough, objectively everything before the end places it before 1 in ranking but well... you know what many of us think of the ending.

2,3,1. Give a 3 a proper ending, and it goes top for me.

2>1>3....replay value has always made mass effect 1 and 2 great imo because there was a lot of it. ME3 lacks it due to the endings, autodialogue, and the fact that a lot of choices from the first two just don't matter. Ive played in 2 times with both playthroughs being verryy different and ive seen all I care to see.

1. ME1 - I'm not saying I wasn't bored out of my mind after driving the Mako around a planet the 5th time to find that last mineral deposit but it still had that air of mystery, it was more epic in my opinion and had more variety in upgrades, at least in my opinion.
2. ME3
3. ME2 - the characters' story lines were great (though there may have been less of them and in more depth instead) but the ending didn't really impress me.
