The ending's not that bad, really. It wasn't quite what any of us expected but was it that bad? Does it actually change your view of Mass Effect or Bioware? Problem is, no matter what the ending is, people will complain. We all had our different ideas about how the trilogy would end and this is the way Bioware chose to end it. And remember they're the ones who created this amazing franchise in the first place. They can end it how they want. And at least they chose to end it memorably!

When it comes down to it, Mass Effect is about the characters and events you experience throughout the story. It's the journey, not the destination that matters. And no one here can deny that the trilogy of Mass Effect is one of the greatest gaming experiences in recent years. In decades, even.

Bioware, you gave us an amazing gaming series! You end it however you want! :D

Let's be honest, you're either trying to troll or haven't given sufficient time into reading the grievances of others.

If the game was a standalone one than the ending wouldn't have been as bad if the ending was established at any point in the game and not just shoved in at the last 5 minutes.

All I will say is you are entitled to your own opinion but I would urge you to read through the list of reasons people have given (in a more than a few threads) about why they felt the endings were bad.

Yes because nobody can have a different opinion on the ending

The ending was terrible by any standards. This sums it up rather well: http://calitreview.com/24673

If I could go back in time and change World War II so that only 3,000 people would die, it wouldn't be "that bad".

Dragon Age 2 wasn't that bad.

But we're talking relativity here. Mass Effect 3 had a mediocre ending which, in comparison with the series, is awful. Dragon Age 2 was an average game which, after Origins, was a disappointment and a shame.

What I want is to believe that the story of Mass Effect isn't just limited to three games and a few offshoot books or whatever. I want to believe that it is a sort of fictional, parallel universe, and that my adventures in it are important but not all there is. Without resolution, without the mass relay system of travel, without my choices having an effect, it's almost as if the galaxy was in fact destroyed right after the ending.

I'll be honest, the ending to ME 3 was one of the worst endings of any game/trilogy I've ever played. Sorry Bioware, you kinda REALLY dropped the ball on this one. I'm not saying they suck though, every company/person makes mistakes. I'd gladly give them a chance to come up with a better ending.

Did I say that? No, the problem HERE is that he's discounting the opinions of others by implying they're being dishonest or blowing things out of proportion.

The gestalt of Mass Effect 3 is an end unjustified by its means, unworthy of defense. During its final moments it commits storytelling suicide, and the taste of decay it leaves in the mouth cripples the otherwise impeccable quality of what came before, poisoning even nostalgia against it. At best and being fair to the game’s other traits, the quality comes out a wash – simply mediocre. ~ California Literary Review

Please start charity to prove how much you love the endings. I mean, it's a good cause, and I'm sure since you like it so much, you should start a charity to show how much you love it!

Exactly. And the ending completely ignores all of that in favor of Space Magic™ and turning Shepard into Space Jesus.

Want to know how your choices will affect the galaxy in the years ahead? Too bad.

Want to know what happened to all your friends and loved ones? Too bad.

Want to know that the choices that molded you into the individual you are actually mattered in any way? Too bad.

How much did they pay you to write this?
If it is actually your opinion then you are missing a lot of information.

A fantasy God child created the Reapers
Reapers kill organics to make sure organics do not create synthetics that kill organics
3 near identical endings only different by colour of explosions
Normandy fleeing the scene with squadmembers on board that could not have been there
Decisions have NO effect on the ending at all
No ending that can even remotely be called 'happy'
No sense of satisfaction after getting through the ending
No closure
Ending raises more questions than it answers

I think you get the jist of it. If you still think the ending was good then I'm very happy that at least you liked it. It doesn't change the fact that I feel it's the biggest fail ending in history.

While I think the game needs a proper epilogue explaining what happens next, fate of love interest and other key companions, explain fate of Normandy, etc., I think the actual ending choices are find and make sense in the context of the game. Keys decisions should impact: 1) War Assets, which they do and 2) Epilogue which is needed, but substance of ending I have come to see as fine after getting past my initial WTF reaction.
