The ending's not that bad, really. It wasn't quite what any of us expected but was it that bad? Does it actually change your view of Mass Effect or Bioware?
it completely ruined my motivation to restart the series from ME1. so, yes, it did
Man, a friend of mine (who finished a day or two before me) told me the same thing, that she didn't think she could go back to 1 or 2 anymore because "what's the point?" And I privately thought that was ridiculous, no matter how bad the ending was I could maybe headcanon my way around it but nothing could take the series from me.
And then I suffered through that godawful 10 minutes myself and why the hell would I put Shepard & the crew through the nightmares of 1 and 2 if this is how it ends? What's the POINT?

Yes because nobody can have a different opinion on the ending
Did I say that? No, the problem HERE is that he's discounting the opinions of others by implying they're being dishonest or blowing things out of proportion.
Nah, that's not what I'm meaning to say. What I'm meaning to say is that, yeh, the ending is disappointing to A LOT of people. But that doesnt take away from the fact that the Mass Effect series as a whole is brilliant. It doesn't change the fact that ME1 and 2 are brilliant as is 99% of 3.

While I think the game needs a proper epilogue explaining what happens next, fate of love interest and other key companions, explain fate of Normandy, etc., I think the actual ending choices are find and make sense in the context of the game. Keys decisions should impact: 1) War Assets, which they do and 2) Epilogue which is needed, but substance of ending I have come to see as fine after getting past my initial WTF reaction.
I wish I could be like you guys, and come to accept Space Magic™ coming out of nowhere in a science grounded series, but sadly I cannot do so.

Its not that his opinion was different. His counter-argument missed the point of why people didnt like it
Its a step away from people asking why we want 'happy' endings.

Objectively, yes it was really that bad. Its poorly written and poorly designed, contradicts existing lore, makes absolutely no sense in context, undermines a lot of the stuff from previous games, undermines the very principle behind mass effect of your actions having an effect on the outcome and about Shepard always making his/her own decision and, to paraphrase someone else, "has plot holes big enough to fly the Destiny Ascension through".
It is flat out objectively bad. Which makes it even worse from a subjective point of view.

Most people disagree with this. The best example to counter your argument is below:

For the record, everyone knows 99% of the trilogy is great. Its stating the obvious

Sadly it does, because it ruins replayability for a lot of us. I'm glad you can still stomach it, I can't get off of Eden Prime.
