I'm about 2/3 of the way through the X360 version on Normal. Doing OK, I guess, but I wish I had a gaming PC together at the moment. I can see how a point and click interface would make my experience an order of magnitude better. I'll finish the game, but the console interface won't really pull me back for a replay.
1. The lack of a high level perspective for battles is very much missed. I keep seeing it's because the consoles "lack the technology" but I have no idea what that means. There's plenty of games on these systems that have all levels of zooming. Some RPGs here let you switch between first and thrid person.
2. Selecting targets with the D-pad needs to be more context sensitive. If I'm casting an attack spell, I do not need to select an ally, a pile of bones, an elfroot plant or a chest. This was most evident in a certain puzzle section. I'm trying to solve the puzzle and I keep selecting party members off screen. I had to take them down a hallway and give a hold command. ;-)
3. I'd like to give some sort of movement orders during pause. Also, multiple orders during pause.
4. I love the tactics scripts idea. I lost myself for hours in FF12 playing with the gambit system. Since it seems the consoles will rely on them more, maybe give us more slots? I'm coming up on 25 years as a hobbyist programmer. I'd write a 200 line script for these characters if you let me. :) I'd take a crack at Nightmarre if I had a more generous supply of tactics slots.
5. Let me arrange things in the radial menu. I'm there all the time anyway. The six quick slots would then be good for hold position and switch weapons and other things you might want to do out of battle (stealing, for example).
