That changes none of the feelings I had about her.

She gives birth to babies, therefore she is a female.

No.  Only one person can define that, and that is Liara.  And she acts consistently feminine.

"A mono-gender race—distinctly feminine in appearance—the asari are known for their elegance, diplomacy, and biotic talent."

- Mass Effect Wiki

In a monogender race there is no such thing as male or female. Hence there is no such concept as heterosexual or homosexual. Those terms have no meaning in refering to the Asari and to apply them is just trying to impose human constructs where they have no place.

by human standard you say... Asari are just Asari... our logic of gender difference does not apply to them really

This is so three years ago. Obviously if Shepard hits it in all three games there's nothing wrong with the bits we don't explicitly get to see that would make the game NC-17.

I fully support blue monosexual alien ****es. No shame in my game.

So... the part that bothers you about this whole ordeal is the gender? Not the fact that he/she is an alien?

In this topic, sex with aliens is more natural than homosexuality.

The scene you get with FemShep if you tried to romance Kaidan and Liara elaborates on this:

"I thought we had something, ma'am, I didn't realize you were a... Well... that you prefer other women."
"I am not exactly a woman, lieutenant. My species only has one gender."

Since they do not reproduce directly(ie taking fathers genetic material and fusing it with mothers) they use a mental connection to take dna data only to randomize their own dna. Also they give live births like humans and as evidence is their navel which i hope everybody knows why humans have it. Asari probably lack even ovaries or similar organs that species with sexual reproduction require.

My explanation is intelligent design. I think due to Reaper/Protean/other intervention that most life shares a common base.
Some like Asari/Human/Quarian share many similarities, making them compatible as sexual partners in the sense that they share "important bits" of biology.
Some like Turian/Batarian share just enough to be compatible to the more open minded individuals. Things like smell/taste/touch are similar enough not to be repulsive.
Some like Krogan/Vorcha/Volus share only basic layouts (two arms, legs, eyes in the right place) and are mostly incompatible.

Question is do the Asari really look the way they do, or is it a mind trick?
