In a monogender race there is no such thing as male or female. Hence there is no such concept as heterosexual or homosexual. Those terms have no meaning in refering to the Asari and to apply them is just trying to impose human constructs where they have no place.

Some like Asari/Human/Quarian share many similarities, making them compatible as sexual partners in the sense that they share "important bits" of biology.
Some like Turian/Batarian share just enough to be compatible to the more open minded individuals. Things like smell/taste/touch are similar enough not to be repulsive.
Some like Krogan/Vorcha/Volus share only basic layouts (two arms, legs, eyes in the right place) and are mostly incompatible.
