My explanation is intelligent design. I think due to Reaper/Protean/other intervention that most life shares a common base.
Some like Asari/Human/Quarian share many similarities, making them compatible as sexual partners in the sense that they share "important bits" of biology.
Some like Turian/Batarian share just enough to be compatible to the more open minded individuals. Things like smell/taste/touch are similar enough not to be repulsive.
Some like Krogan/Vorcha/Volus share only basic layouts (two arms, legs, eyes in the right place) and are mostly incompatible.

Please no religious reference in the forum, or else we'll end up with a flame war between religious/atheist people that we don't need

As far as you know, Liara could be a father. Like Liara's father...

Relationships are a matter of give and take. As long as you don't have an issue with who gives and who takes...

I always basically considered the Asari gender thing beyond our basic understanding really. To me, all Asari are "female", they're all what we'd consider"women", it's just that in Asari culture it doesn't mean the same as in ours because basically, their "rules" aren't the same. They aren't human, applying human concepts works only in certain areas..

Mono means one. Mono gendrer is basically one gender. Unless their secretly a gender with penises and ****** at the same time, I'll assume they are all female.

and that your relationship could, from one angle, be defined as homosexual.

"A mono-gender race—distinctly feminine in appearance—the asari are known for their elegance, diplomacy, and biotic talent."

So what ? Anything wrong with homosexual relationships ?

There are a number of single-sex vertebrates species on Earth. They are considered biologically female.

I didn't include any religious references. I stated that either the Reapers, or an advanced civillisation of a past cycle had shaped the way life will evolve. Intelligent design =/= god/religion.

To be fair it is, in my mind, the only logical reason for all the similarities. I would go as far as to say it COULD be a way to ensure we all get along as to present a united front to the Reapers. A last stab at the Reapers from a civillisation long since gone.

I would say she is, if not literally then for all purposes. Asari:

1) Give birth (meaning they have wombs)
2) Have female secondary sexual characteristics like breasts
3) Their reproductive strategies are much closer to those of females than males, from the point of view of sexual selection
4) Their voices are female
5) I might get a bit of flack for this, but their behavior and communication style is closer to females

Yeah, everyone talks about Grunt's size, but nobody knows that Liara's size is actually scarier.

Single gendered species, female with the ability to reproduce via Neural joining (psychic powah).

They are all 100% female, the only difference is they only have one way to reproduce with another Asari while they can have conventional intercourse with Males of other species.

Wait until you realize that every species perceives Asari to look like a female of their own species.

Do they have "conventional intercourse"?  Just cuz you have a womb does not mean you have the other parts... Escpecially when there are no males around.

How else would they give birth, they NEED a Vagoo or the womb is pointless. Also Liara rides you like a horse.

Also Liara basically tells you they do in Shadow Broker, Azure.

They are female. They all call each other "her", "she", "mother", "daughter", "sister", etc.

Exactly. Boobies exist to nurse young. Stands to reason they have other "familiar" parts, especially if they have similar basic biology.
