They also have to be physiologically female. Assuming they don't lay eggs or something weird like that (which is never implied in the game) this means having a womb in order to carry the foetus for birth. Physiologically they are likely to be very similar to humans given the implied similarities with humans (the breasts implying mammary glands, for example) and given how evolutionary development tends towards the "most favourable" outcome. In the case of bipeds this means a vagina-like opening between the legs in order to actually give birth (since the positioning allows gravity to assist with the birth, in a natural setting of course as opposed to propped up on a hospital bed).
She has something down there. But since asari have mind sex theres no need for anything other than the hole to give birth. Its impled that witht he "azure" thing that there is something down there, but theres really no need for the whole vagina structure since asaris evolved in absence of man parts...
Tried to say as much earlier, but its hard to be subtle with these things.
Either way, my next femshep is totally doing her.
Where there's a womb there's a way.

actually I wonder if asari actually gave birth, or do they.. you know, replicate by cell division
If you reunited Liara with her "father" you learn that they give birth. Her "father" is adament about not being her "mother"

Mind = Blown.
Oh yes she does, or they do. It's called an Azure (which is the equivalent to a female er...um... lady part)

If you know what that is.

Going to need a term for it.
We've got: once you go blue, nothing else will do.
Hmm....
Once her eyes go black, you'll never go back.
If it ain't blue, it ain't worth a....small, threaded fastener.

Well the existance of asari navels proves live birth, and the extra broad hips proves large human sized babies at that. As for whether asari have a vagina analogue, obviously we don't know for certain because Bioware doesn't do explicit scenes, although the "azure" remarks does suggest its existance.Dean_the_Young wrote...

However, if you're wondering, "why would asari have one if they don't reproduce via coitus" let me put this to you, why do humans have them? Think about it, the external parts serve no useful function from a biological stand point and many other species like birds and reptiles reproduce via coitus but lack a vagina analogue, just a hole.
So if you humans can have extra external bits that serve no real biological function, than its entirely possible that asari have something similiar.
Another way to look at it, its likely that asari evolved from a species that did reproduce sexually and thus could have a vestigial vagina analogue, kind of like the human appendix, only sexier.

The asari can mate with any living being. They just take some of the genetic information from the 'father' and add it to their own, creating a new lifeform, the baby asari. The cranky pureblood on Illium on ME2 tells you this. Liara tells you in the first one that asari don't even need to have sex to become pregnant. They just have to have a deep spiritual connection with another being. Basically its like falling in love with someone without haveing sex as a main factor.
What you' re saying is they can mate with my dog and have children?

Actually, technically speaking Liara *is* female. Anything that has only one gender is female. There are lots of examples of parthenogenic species on Earth (https://en.wikipedia...Parthenogenesis), and the single extant gender is "female" for these species. The idea that the lack of males means the Asari aren't female is just plain silly, and goes counter to the basic biological definition of "female."
Wonder if anyone reads ingame Codex here? It is stated since ME1 that all Asari are females.
And not all monogender species are female, some are hermaphrodites.
But apparently most people here don't know what female in biological (on species scale) sense means. It means having ovarian structure. Nothing more, since genetical makeup varies greatly among species (for example birds are direct opposite to mammals, as among them it's females that have different sex chromosomes, and among some reptiles sex depends on temperature eggs lied in).
Hermaphrodite in this sense means having both ovarian and testicular structure.

You'd have to be fairly insecure to be incapable of dealing with that, but even so, its a pretty simple task to think of a handwave for it. Romance scenes seem to heavily imply that Liara responds well to physical stimuli. Personally, I think its quite likely that Asari are capable of experiencing their partner's ecstasy via mind-meld.

In reality? She has breasts, general female proportions, and a brith canal.
In every way that matters for a human she's defineable as female.
