I think that Liara herself explains this in ME1.

If she's doing an Asari?

Then yeah, she is.

Sorry. Image IPB

Actually dude. All asari are technically female. Because all Asari can give birth. That they are mono gender, and do not reprodusce to cellular mitosis means they are all female really. If you want to do it all technical and medically.

Yeah, even if monogendered from their perspective, Asari resemble more a human female than a male. So, from our perspective... Ehm... perhaps she, too, goes both ways?

I guess it's the same line of thinking Liara's father uses when you argue that from human perspective she's her mother.

No but it has to do with sexual reproduction, or if you are female or not. The only non gender thing we know of are single cell organisms (i think there are some verry few multicellular organisms as well that do this). Like ameba, bacteria or the like. Which reproduce through cellular mitosis. Now every other form of life on this planet reproduce through cellular meiosis (which is implied that asari do as well, since they incorporate some of the "fathers" DNA to theirs). Now any form of life that reproduce through cellular meiosis the gender that carry forth the offspring then = the mother, or are female (expet i think the bloody sea horse). Or to be more exact, the one that generates the "egg".

If she isn't a woman, she's the hottest dude I ever saw.

Jokes aside, she's clearly female. All asari are. If BioWare wanted to create a truly genderless species, they wouldn't have given them ****** and beautiful faces.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Asari emerged from one of Drew Karpyshyn's wet dreams... they're such a hilarious nerd fantasy. Beautiful alien women with cute bodies who are also "bisexual" and want to have sex with you just because you're an alien. Oh, and their boobs keep getting bigger as they age, even when they're grannies.

For all intents and purposes, they're female. It's Bioware's intent that they look female for the purpose of attracting their largely male playerbase.

They give birth, appear female, and are essentially female in most ways.

They are female. Little bit of genetics theory: the Y-chromosome is thought to evolved as a mutation of the X-chromosome. Considering their basic external anatomy is the same as human, I would expect the process or reproduction and birth to be similar to Earth mammals. I just reasoned that the X->Y mutation just never occured in their species or it was evolved out.

Species on Earth that are "mono-genered" are also usually considered biologically female. I know there are several species of fish this applies to.

yes this

Also some spicies of frog are capable of changing genders when placed in a single sex enviroment, also sea horses, it's actually the male's that give birth to the children. So for those that say she gives birth she's female then take into acount the sea horses & frogs before you make that point again.

Liara was so sweet in ME3 that I wanted to do a romance play-through with her, but I was leery of doing a femshep one because the DA2 scene between Hawke and Isabella was ridiculous. Sorry my mage would have fell over or dropped her on the floor. How is the femshep/Liara romance in Me3?

They use feminine pronouns. Their 3 life stages are all feminine. They have breasts (for no reason). I think it's safe to say they are female.
