just use the experts

Tali/Legion are Tech experts

Miranda/Garrus are Tactical experts(team leader)

Justicar is the only choice of barrier if you dont want anyone to die.

Also, make sure that your ship is fully upgraded, especially the guns, shields and armour, otherwise some characters might die on the way to the Collector base.

I've done it with Jack. No one died.

Iezza, 'Hold The Line' is what everyone else is doing when you go off to fight the final boss and you need to pick someone to lead that team. It's tempting to say use Captain Kirrahe but since he's not there I'd go with who BattleRaptor said.

the "Hold the line" issue i think is an option that is there because the game assumes that enough people died to this point that you have to make a choice. might have to be down to a certain amount of people to be forced to choose. I got everyone through the mission safe, so i just chose, "we better hurry", picked my two squadmates to go with me, and everyone else stayed behind. In the end, no one died. I went wiith: kasumi in the vents, (legion if you don't have her). Miranda was team leader and led the second fire team, Samara handled the biotic field, and I had mordin take the crew back to the ship. (made sense to me because he's a doctor, and Chakwas was in no shape to help patch people up.)

^This guy is right with the Mordin thing. The survival of the team you leave behind when you fight the boss depends on each characters defense rating. Which is why it's good idea to leave Mordin, the guy with the lowest rating, to escort the crew to the Normandy. And then take other low defense characters to the boss battle, like Kasumi, Miranda, Tali, Samara, Thane, ect. Pretty much anyone who's not the 'big bruisin' soldier man' gameplay stereotype.

Tali/Legion/Kasumi for duct hacking.

Miranda/Garrus for Team 2 leader.

Jack/Samara for bubble duty.

Mordin for crew escort.

Low defense rate squad mates for boss battle.

Hope that helps.
