This right here. I played a new infiltrator yesterday. It's really easy to get to two shots off before cloak drops and not too bad to get three if you're a good aim.

One of the beauties of this game is that most (if not all) weapons have potential in the right conditions and against the right enemy. The most common player mistake is to adopt a single gun and stick with it no matter who/what you face...


That being said, the Black Widow is of the very best all-round performers. More forgiving than the Widow with the three bullet clip, but keeping all the armor penetration goodness that made the original model famous... and most of the punch too!!!

If i want to shoot on the target more than once i choose an assault rifle... The real Sniper is the Mantis and the normal Widow. Oh and yes i own both Widow, i know what i am talking about. If you never played with both Widows don't judge me without any experience. One precise shot!

Black Widow is better against Ravagers as well. Cloak, one shot to pop the a sac (and take off a good bit of life), second shot to hit the gooey bits inside and kill it. This was on silver. I haven't tired it on gold but I bet you can still kill a ravager with one magazine.

I've also played with both the Widow and Black Widow. One cloaked Widow shot < two cloaked Black Widow shots. I was skeptical at first. Do a quick double body shot against a brute while cloaked. Both shots will take off the same amount of life. Sometimes you can event get a third shot in however lag might be a large factor in getting that shot off before cloak fades.

You sir are smoking some bad weed.  First off your giving advice as a gold farmer.  You play against the same enemy on the same location with the same loadout and more then likely the same people.  And you want us to take advice from you?  I own both widows and can guarantee I can do more work then you can with any weapon and class you choose.  Really, a gold farmer?  LOL

Wow! we are farming gold with my friends together yes, but we are playing unknown map and enemy... Don't know that you are stupid or not but it's a fact that Black Widow is bad! You know Incisor is much better. But Incisor is the best on Firebase Glacier, on other maps normal Widow  the best choice. Still talking about Gold.  You know what ? I don't care what you think I just told you the truth.

It seems I am the only guy who can't get a decent sniper rifle (or any other good gun) from those godawful packs... n7 rank 80 and still on the Mantis I with my salarian infiltrator. It's really starting to ****** me off.

Not just you, it keeps feeding me random SMGs, shottys, and class upgrades for everything except the ones I use. Not a single Widow, Black Widow, or Javelin so far.

I like my Javelin over the Widow. To use the Javelin right you need to use it's strengths properly and that would be cover piercing. Find targets in cover, shoot them in the head, easy. Also the shot lag I find allows me some wiggle room when a target starts moving suddenly.

Well not sure about the valiant. But I've been using a widow for a while now with my Salarian infiltrator and similarly I've never been outscored by another infiltrator with either. With that said, I unlocked a Black Widow earlier today. It's absolutely ridiculous. I kill things SO much faster, especially unprotected units.

Black widow is definitely the way to go if you're luck enough to get it. Well, at least until your widow greatly outlevels the BW(even then, im not sure it would be better)

If you are outscoring someone that is using a valiant or a Black Widow then that person is using it wrong. Most games I play on Gold, I usually double the score of a person using a regualr widow when I use a Black Widow or a Valiant.

Widow X does about 200 more damage than the Widow I, so yeah, it makes a pretty big difference. (Especially when that means a barrel mod V is 250 more damage on top of that).

I unlocked a black widow earlier today, and since then I've beaten all my previous highest scores in gold games, had one game were I got 180k points so obviously it must be doing some pretty heavy damage. normal Widow seems better for bigger targets, black widow is better for normal troops and overal damage output. I think a valiant with a rail amp 3 might top them both though tbh.

This is my new catchphrase.  It fits especially for this forum:

Given how aggressive enemies are, especially as difficulty ramps up, means that time you spend out of cover charging a sniper rifle is time for the enemy to get you dead. Ergo, quickscoping is actually a great habit to get into for ME3 because it minimizes the damage you take, increasing your survivability.

I'd vote for Black Widow as better than the regular Widow, but this is speaking from a SP experience since I don't have it yet (only Sniper Rifle I've gotten in MP is the Raptor thus far). I've only really just started getting into the MP now, going to main a Salarian Engineer...probably with the Black Widow when I get it, maxing +CDR% be damned.

Valiant hits only slightly harder than my Carnifex, visually almost identical to my Paladin, but has a three shot clip instead of 6 or 4. Assuming the damage bar is equivalent across different weapon types, anyway.

I still use it on my SI, with decent success, because of the sniper-specific damage boost talents... but frankly I wonder if just rocking a scoped Paladin might be nearly as good - particularly when weight is taken into consideration. The Valiant's a bit overhyped, IMO, at least for Gold.  It is excellent on Silver and pretty much cleans up Bronze, but so would a scoped pistol.

Black Widow, on the other hand... that's a gun for Gold.

I haven't gotten my hands on the BW but I have a Widow IX and a Javelin and I must say when playing with my friends the in the later portions the Widow is just the better gun.

Its only when you're fighting against lower tier enemies do you get hang ups with the likes of Marauders and such. It takes two good headshots with a Widow to drain their shield and to kill them. Or if you're a Salarian just use Energy Drain = Stagger = headshot. But for other races its a bit more tricky. Not only that I've seen my widow pierce two three targets and killing the two, if three it'll stagger the other.

Widow if you're a good aim, BW if you're a screw up, never take the Javelin.

I dont know where you came to that conclusion from. if youre a good shot with the BW you can line up 3 headshots in quick succession so a better aim will result in a better score with the BW. youll hit ceiling faster (very quick infact) with good aim on the widow (where an average player can score about the same as a skilled one) than with the BW which can unload 3 well time quicker shots, and then with the valiant again. infact the widow has you aim for the body for efficiency while the semi-autos have you aim for the head.

Buy a ****load of recruit packs. That's how you upgrade the Mantis to level X. Given a wave 10 Gold game nets you a wooping 70 000 credits, that's 14 recruit pack every game.

Plus, by leveling all your basic weapons to X (Mantis, Predator, Shuriken, Avenger, Katana) you won't ever see them on veteran packs and spectre packs.
