Here's a better question.
Why shouldn't they?
50,000 people want it. Most of them will pay. They are a business.
That's a valid point, but any reason besides that?
I answered your question already.
You can't say "beside that" on this subject.
I'll say it again, company have only one purpose, making money, it's an economical fact !
As long as the company make money they can do whatever they please, if they begin to loose money because they made a decision that crippled they market support (Bioware fan that will buy their great work for all of their project), their freedom to do "their art" would be more restricted.
The problem is either menace is false and Bioware don't have to worry, either it's real and then they have to estimate how much.
I don't think that loosing a few fan is bad thing or bad sign, it happend at evey new product, as long as you get more "new" fan and keep your potential market at least as big as before, it's fine.
Now, noticeable amout are voicing they disagree, it's not about majority or minority, and even if it was just a 20%, it's a f**king BIG number from an economical point of view, we are talking in millions of dollars, not just cents.
Bioware have the responsability to pay their staff and ensure their future, "art" alone can't help it, risking to sacrifice a part of their market (fan base) is very risky.
There is human behind Bioware, and they need to pay the bills too. I doubt they would work for free to finish their game for "art sake".
