The endings aren't just bad. They hurt.

Wow. You guys are taking this harder than I took my last breakup.

I get being upset, but depressed and heartbroken seem like exaggerations to me.

I think I would of preferred this, it’s more uplifting and plus, you know… it has a segway. =_=;;

Forget the segway, I want to try a cake that the Krogan baked. It'll either kill you outright or be the best thing ever.

I am scared of Krogan cakes, and besides, at least I know that the segway is ‘mostly’ safe.

Shepard DOES look pretty happy about that Segway.

Again, as usual, if you feel depressed for three days or more over a video game, I really recommend to make a visit to a medical professional.
The thing is, that could mean something is not entirely right, something that they can easily fix.
Days of depression is not a normal reaction to any entertainment media.
No, I'm not mocking, I mean it, check it out.

Indeed.

To boot, neither BioWare nor their fans are fully qualified to help you with any emotional pain. If you really are dejected and gutted by this to that extent, please seek medical attention.

I survived ME3's ending with help from Mr. Prozac.

OP, you basically summed up my feelings in a much more eloquent way that I would have bothered to on a message board.

Bioware, we fell in love with these characters. You snatched them away and stabbed them in the heart in the name of a "bittersweet" ending and sent countless players into shock and even depression, including me. I LOVED SHEPARD, DAMMIT. Please, for the love of all that is good, give or sell us the possibility for an ending that at least lets Shepard and his/her love interest grow old together. I'm ok with it taking up to a year to make as long as you tell us in advance that it will happen. I don't care if it costs up to $20. I just CAN'T accept what took place at the end of ME3 as what really happened. I just can't.

Wait a few minutes for a few vapid sycophants to tell you your expectations and attachments are unreasonable and immature. It'll happen, but ignore them. They're missing the point entirely.

Hold the line.

That comic is fun. Especially since its unintentionally ironic. You see... the cartoon ending isnt as far fetched as the ending we got. And that only makes it more sad they made it. But funny. Thats for sure.

Some people invest a lot more emotion into their hobby than others. To be honest, games like Mass Effect tend to encourage strong emotional investment in both the story and the main character. Its no surprise that a lot of people can become depressed after being denied an emotional 'reward' or closure in some form for completion of the game.

What I'm trying to say is, don't be so quick to assume things about people, especially when it comes to emotional states as every individual has their own quirks when it comes to anything they invest 'feeling' or attachment to.

(Before anything gets assumed here, yes I work as a Psychologist and no I don't have to prove it :P )

This. As much as I wanted one, I knew with enemies like the Reapers, it wasn't going to be possible. All fans wanted was for the war to be over and have an ending that told you everything would be okay again. We didn't get anything even close to that. Most of us were left with this reaction:

Ending literally, I mean literally made me almost choke up when it was done. I mean I sat there stunned to the point where my wife actually noticed and asked me if I was alright. I took a day off work because I was so anxious to what happens...only to be drop kicked in my nuts.

You're right, I'm not. In the end even my advice should not be taken as that of a mental professional. However my experiences and observations suggest this to me, and I have a right to make these suggestions whether you like it or not.

Think about it. If you really are depressed and dejected, surely you'd want some help with it to get happy again?

I'm coming away from this series heart-broken and depressed. I've tried doing a few multiplayer matches since finishing the main plot, but my taste for that has turned to bitter ash, as well. It's just... over. I'll probably uninstall it and go back to playing 'safe' things now, never again returning to RPGs. I don't want to run the risk of getting burned like this again.

Although I hope you'll decide to not abandon RPGs entirely, I will say that you're not alone in your reaction to the ending of this game.

Not sure if there's anything to be done for it, but you're not alone.

So imagine my surprise and the hurt that I felt when all that tension and emotional investment I built up for the characters over the years, especially for Shepard, gets suddenly and unceremoniously tossed out the window in the matter of five minutes, full-stop. The game is just over. Thanks for the $60 bux. Buy our DLC.

That is not how you close out an epic series. That is not how out reward dedicated fans who have spent their time and hard-earned cash supporting your company. It's a lazy slap in the face. The ending was something you would expect an intern to turn in to make a deadline rather than a seasoned professional with years of writing expertise. I haven't been this disappointed with a product in a long time. Now the series is over. It's done. Gone. I'll never get to see Shepard in action again, or Liara, or Garrus, or any of the others. The universe they exist in cannot be resurrected due to the decisions made by the writers. And that's what hurts the most.

It's not that the series is over that bothers me. All stories must inevitably come to an end. What bothers me is that it was ended in such a way that it is impossible to even begin to hope for another. All positive feelings and whispy dreams of life in such a future world have been mercilessly crushed.

Exactly. There are far more creative and satisfying ways to bring an end to a story universe than destroying it.

"Still, we wanted to give players the chance to experience an inspiring and uplifting ending; in a story where you face a hopeless struggle for basic survival, we see the final moments and imagery as offering victory and hope in the context of sacrifice and reflection."

That was from part of what Casey said on Friday. Sounds great, but that's the opposite of what we got. I was supposed to be uplifted by that? That ending filled Casey with hope?  It's comments like that that upset me more and more every time I see or hear them. It's like the devs were playing a different game than the rest of us. I'm not one of the raging fans, just a confused one.

+1 OP. The endings really hurt. They never made you feel like victory. It's a tragedy. I felt the whole endgame was like attending a funeral. My Shepard said goodbye to his buddies before the whole run for the beam, and knowing what was awaiting, I felt physically ill. I couldn't finish the game and turned off after the starchild spat his first line of bull****. It's just so depressing to see it all end like this. Yeah, it hurts.

I dont care what any of you say, I DO want a happier ending. Where is my fullfillment of Fantasy for my space fantasy hero? Another forced Martyr story, again? Boring! These seem to be the trend these days...a new cliche. I like the old cliche more, at least if made me feel good.
