Mass Effect is a IP owned by Bioware, but like Star Wars and Star Trek, it has to be beloved by the fanbase to mean anything. The 3.5 million sales in a week, and the outpouring on these forums illustrate this.

The endings ... I would have loved a happy ending. I was such a nice guy throughout the games, and I did everything and saved everyone (except Kaidan of course :-)
BUT I had settled on the fact that my Shepard was probably going to have make the ultimate sacrifice.

I had done and seen this before ...
Fallout was not a barrel of laughs, but my actions at the end were revealed in a long epilogue, showing even how getting Granny back her Violin had a positive effect.
Star Trek Deep Space 9, which has a very similar plotline to Mass Effect ... Captain rallies the races in the galaxy to take on a seemingly unbeatable foe ... And pays the ultimate sacrifice. In the last episode we were treated to a tearful montage, set to music showing the characters journey.
ME3 seemed to be more like the end of Voyager ... It was the journey and not the end that mattered :-(

I myself played ME1 and ME2 again over the Christmas Break. I wanted to go into ME3 with the based saved game possible. I even mined every planet incase there would be some carry over.
I was amazed with the final suicide mission, how it would jump from scene to scene, showing how everyone of my actions and decisions had contributed to the end mission.
That was not there in ME3. The last time we had any say was during Shepard's rally speech before the final push.
You guys did this so much better in ME1 and ME2, and I do agree with everyone that the ending was one ending, was a cop out, did not make sense and gave zero closure.
You guys could have done so much better. You've done it before. Interviews over the last year have indicated that there would a richness of the endings based on our decisions, and that all questions would be answered.

Mass Effect is an emotional investment by the die hard fans, who have played it multiple times, and I'm sorry ... Bioware does not have artistic licence give us a Matrix ending. The game was all about decisions and consequences, right uptil the last few acts.

I said to my wife a few weeks back, that Bioware would really have to screw up this game not to win all the game of the year awards.
Today, just two weeks later, if the franchise is left in the state it is now, I can not in good conscience give you my vote ... me the most loyal of fans.
There is an English saying ... Gutted.

I want to love this franchise again. I really do. I'll pay you the $10 for the DLC that will fix this, and I'll pay the $10 for each DLC afterwards, and the next trilogy. I even bought the first three Mass Effect books. I really do not want to start the 2nd one.
Right now, I want to put all three games away. I was thinking of playing through again as Femshep, but not now ... Wounds too deep. Like a Star Wars or a Star Trek, I am not sure you realised what you have here, and that you gave an ending that could only be described as a betrayal to what Mass Effect is, much like the very last episode of Enterprise, which betrayed what the series had become.

To those of you who bought the game, and think this is all very silly, maybe this was just a disposable game, especially those who have not been there since ME1 (PS3 owners for $10), I get that too, but Bioware built this to be an immersive experience, and they succeeded, but in the last 10 minutes, they not only messed up a game but an entire franchise.
It has really screwed up my mood over the last few days. I have taken solice from these forums and Youtube that I am not alone.

I want my closure. I want my heroic moment. I want to know how my Shepard changed the universe, just like Sisko in DS9 and like the courier in Fallout.

What is sad is that most things in life, for better or worse have a footnote that standout against all other information on the person or topic, like Nixon ... Watergate, Princess Diana ... Car Crash.
It is going to be "Mass Effect ... Ending" if this is not addressed. The Wiki page already reflects this. I would like to see something tagged on on how you ... Bioware fixed the situation.
