Ranks are messed up throughout. Ash is enlisted in ME1, more senior enlisted in ME2... and a lieutenant-commander in ME3? Seriously? The jump from ME1 to ME2 was possible.

Yeah, Kaiden got annoying. Always posing as his innocent twin, Kaidan. Something really needs to be done with this Kaiden person.

Now these are real world examples which I am sure serves as the basis for the ME universe ranking system (at least for Earth forces). Lt. Cmdr. is equal to Major...same paygrade....same rank...different branches.

A lot of people keep saying it doesn't matter since shepard is a spectre but kaiden (and i supose ashley will too?) can actually become a spectre himself during me3 so they would actually be totally equal.

By this point, Shepard is the best hope for the galaxy, so I don't think it matters what Alenko's Alliance rank is. It's her ship, her crew, she's the first human Spectre, and she's the one saving everyone's behind. I think he has enough respect and common sense to fall in line, even if he 'outranks' her. I think he could be an Admiral, and he'd still follow her orders.
