I also disliked the idea of asking a game creator, or any artist, to write a better ending. That said, in this case, given that it could be re-written with DLC (optionally, for those who liked it), that it feels like the ending violates much of the principles of the series, the plot holes, etc...

Yeah. Line. Holding it. Hell, I made a forum identity just to voice my displeasure with the ending.

The ending really is that bad. Welcome and for what it's worth I'm sorry you had to go through it to get here.

Hi there,

I create this thread because after finishing the game yesterday night, I really feel like I should apologize.
Before I even started the game, I was in the general discussions forum a lot and I heard about the "bad endings" and came across a thread about "new ending dlc".
Back then, I posted in this thread, condemning the very idea of a $10 ending DLC. My reasons for this were solid. If one company starts with this kind of practice and has success, you can bet that others will follow the example and soon we will have to buy our endings extra for most games. I still stand by the notion that buying an ending DLC is not the way to go for video game consumers.

However, after seeing the current situation at the end of ME3, I realize I really had no idea what I was talking about just a couple of days ago. And I say "Screw it!"
I do want an ending DLC for ME3 and I am ready to pay for it as well because I am just too invested with this franchise to give a damn (mind you that ME3 IS an exception in that regard).

I also said that we should take the ending BioWare intended, believing that after all the work these people put into their franchise it must be somewhat appropriate. Clearly I was wrong on that count as well.

So here it is, I apologize to everyone who has been "holding the line". You were right and I was wrong.
You guys are not haters or people with a false sense of entitlement, you genuinely care and so do I.
And though I think the chances of actually achieveing something are small at best, I also think it is worth to at least be heard.

Well, felt I had to get that off my chest, so my regards to everyone involved in the discussion and ... we will hold the line! :innocent:

This is why EVERYONE that posts an opinion regarding the endings MUST have
experienced their horror before passing judgement. I heard before
playing the game that they were gonna be bad but I refrained from
reading up on them and I almost wish I had spoiled them so I would have
been prepared for the craptacular finale we were given. I'm really tired
of all the journalists going around bashing the Retake movement and
ending their article with "when I finish the game I will accept the
endings" or the comments that are equally as uninformed.

BTW welcome to the fight! Hold the Line!

Wouldn't have helped.. I spoiled myself, saw the endings even before launch, and I still got he uber WTF reaction after finishing it... in fact  the ending was a lot  worse after experiencing the game than by just watching them on different sites.

I thought people were overreacting when I saw the threads start to pop up on reddit. I was trying to avoid spoilers but still wanted to see what people were saying while I was at the gym or something, unable to play. "They can't be that bad," I kept telling myself.

I was sure proved wrong. But for it to be effective, you have to experience it first hand. You can't just be told it's bad.

The forums have a whole different mood lately!

I'm loving this!!

And we all make mistakes. I didn't believe the ending was bad either when all these different threads started. I was still playing the game and it was so great!! How could it turn bad right at the end? It didn't make any sense.

And then you play the end yourself... I do need some Do-si-dos now. Glad it's girl scout cookies season!

This. I know that my personal reaction was basically along the lines of:
"Surely this can't be as bad as everyone is saying, I'm right near the end of the game now so I might as well finish it and see what all the fuss is about....OH MY GOD!"

There are only two kinds of Mass Effect players.

People who've played the game, and people who've actually finished the game. Welcome to the latter.

Anyone else who falls through the cracks is either seriously demented and condones genocide, or is too ignorant to contribute anything meaningful to the discussion.

MrFob, I was just like you!  Those last 10 minutes of the game change EVERYTHING.

Make sure to get hugs.

And I agree paid DLC is the way to fix this. I want AAA quality and that means charging something to at least cover costs.

Space Kid is a harrowing experience we must all undertake. Only then do we truly realize.

It's kind of like the cave you get thrown in to become a Krogan Shaman. It changes your being irrevocably.

Only, clawing your way out of a dark hole with your bare hands would be nowhere near as painful as enduring ME3's endings again.
