Maybe im blind but ive seen tutorial vidoes about the combat system where battles can be paused midway to allow you to move group members and tweak their position/combat/attacks etc. But i cant see this on the PS3.
is this a PC thing only?

ehh press R2 and hold it, a menu comes, from there you choose an action, the press L1 or R1 to change a character and then choose another ability/action.
however this works only for holding the R2 option from the menu, while selecting toggle R2 does nt work for choosing multiple actions.

I find that the whole party thing in the combat system gets a little messy on the PS3. I haven't tried the PC version due to not having a pc capable of running it properly. The game played on the PS3 is very stop start due to having to setup characters as you only have limited hotkeys.
I would advise setting the radial menu (L2 button) in the options to hold open. So that you have to close the menu by hitting L2 again. It can be tedious setting up your party quite often but to get the best results graphically from the game you don't want to have the screen overcrowded (try having a couple of ranged fighters in your party). Thus the PS3 version tends to do this and it can be difficult to see the detail.
