for me, its not so much a matter of trust as it is direction. I thought that with DAO and ME 2 ( the point I met bioware) that bioware could read my mind! Such storytelling and game experience was awesome to me. I felt these games had a fair balance of light and dark, but in the end, the epic hero saved the day somehow. it was rewarding and fulfilling.
then with DA2, I sensed a shift in the story. it became darker, more pessimistic, depressing and more of a catch 22, where no matter what, life sucks, then you die, no matter how hard you fight.
now with ME3 ending, its the same thing, darker, depressing, pessimistic, and again, a big eff you to the hero.
these are not the kinds of stories I like or games I want to play. I figured that bioware ran some demographic numbers and felt that the best way to make money with their games is to make them all about nothing. This nihilist approach is not for me.
bioware is a buisness. to stay in business, they must give the majority of their customers what they want. If they feel that the demographics say nihilism is where the trends are going, and thats where the money is,, then most likely, thats where they will invest.
so...again..I trust them to be a business. but as for me, I feel I am no longer the type of fan they are looking for.
I am the type of fan that wants epic heros, who save the day, thru some
sacrifice, but in the end, gets to ride off into the sunset with LI.
so..its about the direction bioware is taking. I surely wont preorder any more of their games. I will have to vet each out and see if it suits me. no big deal. I would buy more of their games if they returned to epic hero instead of nihilist hero.
I just feel sad, because they make such good epic hero games!
