Infiltrator+Claymore=Adequate Sniper Replacement

Other than that I'd say that on gold I do agree that soldier can be pretty detrimental, but I do love the Krogan Soldier's ability to be a damage sponge, even on gold.

I think that covers it but if you have suggestions as to the exact formulation then pleas leave a suggestion.

if you go about damage yes.... but after decloaking you are vulnerable to enemy fire so I would recommend playing with a widdow since you are usualy out of range of the enemy.

I "MUST"??? Um, I've played plenty of Gold matches where I don't have ANY equipment and I've held my own and sometimes even topped the scoreboard. I don't know how you have enough level III equipment to use it EVERY gold match... Also, I play an Asari adept, so I rarely ever use my pistol because I mainly spam stasis bubbles and biotic explosions... So why "MUST" I waste level III ammo powers?

This is a general guide and if you think you are good enough to play without ammo upgrades then go ahead.... I personaly also don't use much upgrades as an adept but most people need to take them and if you don't use them on gold then where else?

I use them if I have them, but I play too many matches and don't have enough equipment to use level III stuff every time. I don't even have enough to use three level I items every time (I wish I did...)! It just annoys me when people are so elitist and they expect you to have all the best equipment (and guns) EVERY match. Player skill is, in my opinion, more important.

Skill is more important of course but the goal of this thread was to educate the noobs who want to play gold and a few level 3 equipments could be just what they need to be able compete at a gold level since level 3 equipment gives a lot of bonuses. If you are allready good at beating gold then you propably won't learn anything new here but you can still leave some suggestions on how people new to gold could improve their chances.

I think in general, players should always stick together and priority should be given to killing enemies instead of rezzing dead team mates unless they are right next to you. I've seen too many matches go to hell because someone dies in a bad spot and a well meaning team mate runs to save him, getting himself killed too. Then the OTHER team mate goes and the whole match goes to hell.

tl;dr: If someone died in a bad position, leave him there, clean up the enemies, then save him.

Teams should also learn to zone properly to prevent enemies from spawning behind them. For example, in Firebase Giant, teams of 2 players should cover the front and the back of the base to prevent any enemies from spawning inside.

Also, save missile launchers for wave 10 or very bad situations. I've seen lots of noobs pull out a missile launcher on a solo atlas that everyone is already focusing down.

Everyone should all eat cornflakes, as the extra iron helps concentration? Intravenous caffeine drips?

Yeah I see.... You are propably one of those guys who sit around as a soldier and wonder why you die to banshees or phantoms all the time.... If there are already adebts on the field then I change to Infiltrator with black widdow or vanguard with pistol.... It always depends on the setup of your team and since not much people play adebt then I do it.... Also this isn't an opportunity to compare penis sizes but rather help new players advance with their skills....

But yeah sure thanks for the intelligent input.

Great guide, would love to play a match with you and some other folk here.

I would add on thing, it's probably a given, but here goes..

Don't shot at the warped enemies (blueish ones), an adept will explode them for some solid AoE explosion. What i do is I warp an enemy in a cluster then fire on a separated one during cooldown, then throw for an explosion. If done correctly, you can neutralize a small group and a flanking enemy.

Another thing, I feel the team should form an arc instead of standing in line. Most of the time when firing from one spot we fail to see the enemy that's flanking.

Phalanx or Avenger will also give +200% cooldown.
At higher upgrades you can even use them both.
Phalanx III and Avenger X together for +196%.

Scratch last line, had a heavy pistol weight reduction on the character.
Points better spent on biotics. Use only one or the other.

I appreciate this topic. I know I will get my ass kicked if I ever try Gold and likely won't for some time, but I still appreciate it a lot in case I'm ever on any sort of mind altering substances. Thank you.

The single most important thing to being highly successful on gold and getting runs done in well under 20 minutes is team builds that synergizes. Take a team that synergizes with each other and you will blow through Gold three times as fast as the average gold-winning team, and you will be able to do it even if you're very good.  A solid team strategy executed by people with only moderate skill in shooters will clear Gold with full extraction without using any equipment or consumables in <25 minutes every time.  Doing it WELL will get you times much faster than that, and using equipment and consumables will make it go even faster (such as having 4 targets get eliminated in about 30 seconds from the start of the wave with the benefit of missile launchers and a team that moves properly to cover space).

Try, for example... Human Vanguard, Salarian Engineer, Drell Adept, Human Sentinel (No tech armor!  Use a respec card), have everyone sprint around the map in a circuit of the various enemy spawns, set off combo triggers constantly (don't worry about Throw or anything like that unless you need to interrupt an OHKO animation, the Vanguard will act like a constant explosion triggeer with Area Charge and Half Blast), and have the engie leave a decoy at a key point (depends on the map) so by the time you've made one circle around the map you can just head back to the decoy and mop up the stragglers.  Enjoy running Gold waves in a minute or so.

Bonus fun:  When using good controller types (like a Salarian Engineer or Human Vanguard) played properly, you can do silly things like have a Krogan waltz into the middle of two geth primes, three pyros, and three hunters and just start headbutting things... and he'll never die thanks to everything staggerring or being distracted.  I wish I could record videos from my Xbox so I could share that experience, but unfortunately I lack the equipment.  Everyone was laughing hysterically.

Anyways, for those of you saying you wish you could play with some of the good players on here, feel free to hit me up on Xbox Live if you're capable of communicating clearly and following a battle plan.  It'd be nice to be able to avoid playing with randoms more often, in which case I usually end up having to tediously solo multiple waves (and waste a ton of my items... bleh).

HUMAN1ST1C wrote...

A vast overstatement.  While these things certainly help, they are not remotely necessary for winning, and I've done many speedy runs without any equipment or consumables.  I save my equipment bonuses for when my friends aren't on and I have to solo Gold (or at least am prepared to do so, if playing with random newbies without mics).  If you're playing with a good team, enemies should be evaporating before your onslaught like they're barely even there without any extra bonuses thanks to combos and effective use of battlefield control.

The fact that Humanistic's statement isn't really *true* is important because it is impossible to play every gold match wiith appropriate level 3 ammo, armor, and weapon bonuses, because a win on Gold does not get you enough to replenish that supply.  Unless of course you want to stop and play Bronze or Silver a dozen times between each Gold run, but why would you want to do that?  It's ineffecient and unnecessary, and in my personal opinion unfun (Bronze and Silver are so easy it's a joke).

This, however, is generally true.

Amazing guide! This is coming from an N7 rating of 445. If you do not think that matters, message me. When using the infiltrator, if I am with bad teammates, I will kill everything but the big targets first. Otherwise, everyone gets swarmed and then we lose. This way, I force my teammates to focus on the big targets, together. In higher waves, when you eliminate an enemy it re-spawns... I try to not get overwhelmed by numerous Atlases that might move all the way across the map crunching my team together until they all die or spam missiles...

Really good guide, most of which is rock solid information, some of which is variable depending on your skill level.

I.E. If you're not sure whether or not you need something, you need it.

Anyway, BUMP :P

Yeah well I personally don't need to use upgrades or stick to some of the rules of behaviour but thats only for people who feel comfortable with gold in general and already know their limits but this guide is for gold beginners so I tried to be very thorough.

Having played my first gold match this past weekend after playing strictly silver, I have to agree that if you aren't efficient in killing elite enemies, then you don't have what it takes to keep up on gold. You should have a plan on what you do for each enemy, and how you can help the team. If you want to be solo superman, go play bronze or silver.

For example, my favorite class for gold is the Salarian engineer. I always set up a decoy at one of the teams flanking points, as well as making sure all entry ways are covered. I like this class because its almost like i'm CCer (especially those dumb geth and phantoms, they get cornfused with my deeecoy). If my team is all shooting in one direction,I ALWAYS go check in the other direction. More often than not, there were mooks getting ready to flank us.

You just have to play smarter. I started two for two in my first gold matches. A lot more fun than silver, with the right team of course.
