I don't like him because he's basically Carth from KOTOR.
"I've been betrayed before! How do I know you're still not working for Cerberus (Sith)! I can't trust anyone ever again!! RAWRAWRWARAWR"
At least Ashley have background information that explains her trust issues and xenophobia.
When he started up with that on Mars I wanted to poke a hole in his faceplate. Then someone did and I felt bad.

Kaidan was my bro. Not Garrus-level, but still cool enough.

Whiny? About his father being missing in action? Do you consider Garrus whiny when he talks about not hearing from his sister and father :/
Whiny to me isn't about what a person says, but how he says it. Garrus certainly didn't cry when he mentioned his family. Even Jack in ME2, when she DID cry during the romance, was more masculine than Kaidan.

Maybe I'll save him in my second play through of Mass Effect, if I ever get around to actually do that.

Kaiden's never survived to ME2 on any of my playthroughs and I'm pleased as punch I finally got to shoot Ash in ME3. Then again, I'm a dude so I have no tingly feelings in my nether regions for Kaiden and Ash wasn't really trying to work it until ME3, but by then it was too late. I'd already heard her talk by then.

I don't think Kaidan was whiny in ME3...not sure where you got that.
Unless you count, you know, actually talking about your problems as "whiny"...
And if it's about Kaidan having issues trusting Shepard....of course he would have trouble trusting him, after working with a TERRORIST group that mercilessly slaughters/experiments on everyone including humans. 2 years and 6 months is a long time.
I know I wouldn't be able to just "let it go" either...
This.
He has reasons for mistrusting Shepard as well in his background. I thought he was extremely well written in ME3 (way better than Ash, which kind of disappointed me because she was one of my favorite characters as well).

I mean the way he talks about the "Quickening" made me search the ship for bodies for 20 minutes.

His dad is probably dead. He's not allowed to be slightly emotional about that? It's not like he's curled in a ball crying. He has a legitimate reason to be upset. If I had a friend whose dad just died and he was a bit teary, I wouldn't tell him to suck it up and be a man.

And: "OH NOES MY HEAD HURTS! ALL THE TIME!"
Yeah, Kaiden was a tool. Carth > Kaiden.
But he wouldnt have made it anyway, as Ashley was my favorite crewmate.
I thought Garrus was a pansy in the first game, but he got over it an manned up. I hated his "Is it ethical to kill bad guys to save innocent people?" Im like, is that a serious question? Shoot the sucker. By the 3rd game? Total Badass, thats all me.

When does he say that? Ever? People always complain about this but I've never heard him say anything remotely close to that quote.

In fact, the new writers really nailed Garrus, Liara, and Kaidan. They all turned out perfectly.
