I kind of prefer him to Ashley. I thought I found Ashley.. too brash for my liking? And boy, there are people IRL who are like him, even worse.

after the cerberus attack, he is great. The goodbye romance scene is very moving too.

and by the way, Kaidan's french voice makes the character quite different, it fits well. I have played the trilogy in english and in french and i must aknowledge that they made a really incredible job with the french version. For example, Samara's voice is stunning, and Mordin's too.

I'm looking forward to Ashley. She IS a bit hard, blunt, and racist. But she's upfront and ballsy about that. To win a reaper war, those are the people you want on your side. In real life, I don't hate people just because they disagree with my worldview, and that applies to how I play games. Sure, she hates aliens, but she's still twice the man Kaidan is.

My maleShep was with Liara since ME1, no cheats, no exceptions.
Then all of a sudden, Kaiden starts hitting on me in the Apollo cafe? Awkward moment, that!
But I thought it fit well to Kaiden, he always struck me a bit of an awkward guy.

I was wondering the same thing. My FemShep romanced Liara since ME1 as well, and I never even gave the impression that I was romantically interested in Kaiden at all. So yeah, I did feel kind of sh*tty having to shoot him down during the cafe scene.

Still, I didn't mind his character at all, not one of my favorites, but I certianly didn't hate him.

agreed.. if anything the character is the only one that's developed more than the others imo..

Frankly though, none of the characters have the depth they once did. in ME1 you could easily spend hours in conversations across the game. in ME3, it feels like there's 1/2 the dialog between the supporting characters just in the time frame between missions. All the LI's have vastly reduced content (well, mostly.. sans the last scene.. ahem.)

Her tone of voice when she speaks to my Shepard just grinds my gears.

I always liked Kaidan. Loved the citadel conversation after Cerberus's coup attempt.

"You're my brother Kaidan."

That was great.

Blame the writers... :pinched:
I can respect that someone doesn't like him for his character but on the other hand I bet all you ppl who complain he's whiny are a manly macho group of manly men (and women). <_<
He has faults. That is what makes him interesting. To me at least. And he can function on his own without me needing to hold his hand throughout the trilogy.

and he is very useful on insanity, he doesn't die easily.

I like the character, he has a past. But I noticed something weird : i just went back to ME1 and he says "my mother died in a car crash", and in ME3 doesn't he speak of her alive and alone on Earth ?

Kaidan is a great character, I'll take him over Ashley anyday!

He has some great moments in ME3. And ok, so he calls Shep out about Cerberus on Mars. Could anyone honestly say that if your old CO/friend started working for a ruthless enemy you used to fight and who performed vile experiments you wouldn't be concerned? I think the character would seem like a complete naive douche if he didn't act with a little suspicion!

And I really don't get where this "whiney" thing comes from. Can the people that think he is whiney actually quote me a line because I'm really not hearing it!

Yes he talks about some of his problems, but that isn't whining, it's sharing. He never says anything along the lines of "OMG, that is so unfair, that horrible Turian was so mean to me and now I'm, scarred for life, FOR LIFE!!!!!" etc. You know, that would be whining IMO.

That's a little more ranty than I intended it to be and no, I'm not a raving Kaidan fanboy, It just bugs me when people rag on his character and call him whiney when he really isn't!

Kaidan still somewhat doubtful and hesitant made me try all the harder to make sure he knew where I stood with him. I stuck it out and once things were cleared out in the hospital it was tons better. It really helped having built the relationship that i didn't shoot him and he trusted me enough to believe my femShep. I loved that his character in ME1 told my femShep his history it was really really interesting. I would ahve lovd more dialogue, but it seems like I would never get enough even if they were to add even more.

I like Kaidan because he's chill, and nice. I mean... his trust issues aren't misplaced. Think about what this guy has seen and been through. Also, just because a guy isn't either completely stoic and insensitive, or bad ass and hilarious, doesn't make him whiny. Men are allowed to have emotions as well, they are just stereotyped to be "ultra tough and unfeeling" and judged when they break the stereotype.

So, Kaidan has some questions. I think he's allowed to, after what Cerberus is doing. Shepard was a friend who saved him (possibly), but people change. Can't blame someone for being cautious.

Plus, once you get past all of that and he says he's got your back and no more doubt, he stops. Kaidan isn't Garrus - he's an Alliance soldier. His personality is more professional as he's been trained to act, but he's still a really nice dude. And he cares, a lot, which is why he questions.

I didn't think Kaidan was whiny. In fact, one of the reasons why I liked him and stuck with him as a LI (remained faithful through ME2) was because he had enough cajones to go after femShep to begin with. Shepard is intimidating, and he still went for it. Also he technically outranks Shepard in ME3, but he takes orders from her without jealousy or entitlement.  That shows respect. I thought Kaidan/Ashley remained true to their character(s). They are career Alliance soldiers, and it would have been uncharacteristic for them to not be skeptical about Shepard's Cerberus involvement.

I find this "Kaidan/Ashley trust issues are valid" point to be completely invalid , considering the entire time they're questioning you're loyalty and if you're still with Cerberus...YOU'RE KILLING CERBERUS TROOPS.

Anyways, Kaidan my least liked character throughout the entire series. Allers sure gave him a run for his money, though.

Plus, if I've only romanced women in ME and ME2, why would this dude think I'm interested in him?

Cerberus brought Shepard back from the dead, and rebuilt the Normandy for him/her. I don't think it's out of place at all for Ashley/Kaidan to wonder if he/she felt any obligation or loyalty to them. During ME2, I wondered if Miranda secretly implanted a control chip in Shepard, even though she was told not to. The same thought crossed Ashley/Kaidan's mind, I'm sure.

I liked what they did with him in ME3, and I found the romance absolutely fantastic!

I can understand why some people find Kaidan boring, but I don't get the whiny at all...Well, that's the way I see it anyhow.

Carth, yes, he was whiny and absolutely annoyed me...I wished I could turn him to the dark side :(

As for real life...yeah I have definitely met guys that were whiny....

I've never kept Kaiden alive.

If I get what I want in the EC, I'm starting from the beginning and will have Kaidan alive.

He has Reave in ME3, I'm not sure why he does but that would go great with my Vanguard...

Kaidan's awesome, even when he's creepily giving his speech about TIM being a 'murderous assh*le'.

My primary Shep romanced him from ME1, just like you, and I feel pretty much the same way. If I ever play through the series again, it's going to be all about Garrus. Because Kaidan? Needs a kick to the face.

I do love her though, but Kaidan wins out. *shrugs*
