depending on your style and how you leveled them up I suppose this could change with each player but for me Alistair just gets beaten and knocked out at the start of every major battle. Any boss will just destroy hm, no matter what armor I gave him, what weapon or tatics or skills he just gets knocked out so damn fast.

Why is he so weak in melee combat, come the final battle i didn't waste potions on him as he was just eating them up. It was the same in every boss battle I took him in, Flemeth, The High Dragon you name it he'd get KO'd no matter if he was on the frontlines or staying back.

Only time I didn't get pissed at him being beaten so easy was the quest where you save the queen and get ambushed by the 10+ City guards and that female commander with the Legendary weapon. Hec k I had to use the hallway trick and fight them one at a time just to gain victory.

I'm not really sure what you did wrong, I've never had any problems with using Alistair as a tank.

Alistair is fine, i nominate Sten, that guy was on his back more often then Leliana (though She had a MUCH better reason for being on her back ) He was useless. Speaking of Leliana she is initially pretty meh but by the end of the game she was pretty badass

If your nerfed him by putting points in CON instead of DEX, then it's no surprise if he goes down easy.

Alistair is only weak if you ignore dexterity and rely only on armor and constitution. Don't put many points in CON and willpower and focus just on STR and DEX instead. You'll quickly notice that his survivability increases dramatically.

Part of this is it's Alistair's job to go get hit by the hardest thing around.

In all honesty...My build for Alistair was 1 STR, 1 DEX, and 1 CON. Done that until Alistair hit 20 DEX, then done 2 CON, 1 STR. Alistair has the least amount of deaths for my party I believe.

I really like Alistair as a tank. My PC is a dual-wielding warrior and while they both have tanking capabilities, Alistair can take a lot more hits, particularly in his shield wall mode, than my pc. Combine his tanking abilities with my character's large amounts of damage, it's actually a pretty kickass combination.

The weakest for me has been Oghren. I like to do Orzammar kinda late so I can't tweak him the way I like. The biker gang member dialog wears after all as well. If I pick up Zevran late, then he can be fairly weak as well.



Morrigan is an easy pick up as is Alistair, Lelianna, Dog and Sten. I like having a healbot so Mage's Circle is one I do early for teh Wynne.



For me, the earlier I can get a companion the better they work for me just because I can tweak them into a specific role (ie Lelianna as the goddess of lockpicking or Alistair as the human meat shield)

Lots of people seem to be finding Alistair to be a weak tank at the start. I didn't have this issue, but I built him from the ground up as a tank... dex + con, Shield Wall, Shield Defense, big armor and big defense.

Yeah, definitely need to have him use his best Shield stance, which requires a respectable Dex IIRC. And Dex helps with defense anyway. For me, he started out squishy and then got solid.

Alister is fine as long as you focus equips that resist things and also dex my alisteir has like 18 con and does his job better then shale! and also he can hit above 100.
