I would like to start off by saying
that I'm making this thread for people like me who just want to say
(in a constructive manner) what they need too in order to get the
disappointment off of their chests regarding the ending. With that
said I'd like to say bravo Bioware there wouldn't be this much of an
uproar for a mediocre game. This game brought about emotions like
I've never experienced before while playing a video game and you have
truly separated Mass Effect from simply an entertainment medium to
artwork. It pains me that I agree with so many fans of the series
because I believe in artistic interpretation/creation, Bioware has a
right to end the series as they see fit. With that said if you see
fit Bioware it would mean a lot to the community and myself for an
alternate ending to this fantastic series. It just leaves to much to
be desired to go out like this, if not for us do it for the
characters and the rich universe of story you have created, no epic
saga should end and leave this many questions.

I want to start by addressing the
ending first and then revisit the rest of this game. In order to set
this all up I want to say that I approached the final mission with
100% readiness and every possible war asset I could obtain. Now, the
part at which this game takes a turn for the worse for me is after
the Reaper seriously injures Commander Shepard. It's at this point
that I begin to fear for a lack of a final boss (which turned out to
be true). Now you can argue that the waves of Reaper forces before
this takes place can be considered a “boss fight” although
looking back on the series you didn't have to look to interpretation
to find it. It was clear cut in Mass Effect with Saren's Reaper form
and with the human Reaper in Mass Effect 2. Although, I can get past
that for the sake of story integrity. But the part about Shepard
being wounded in the blast that really does not make sense to me is
the fact that my squad (Garrus and Liara) doesn't die and is later
aboard the Normandy as it's racing through the relays to whatever
planet they end up on. That left me with questions like why did my
squad leave me? How did they get back on the Normandy? Wasn't the
Normandy fighting as well? Why would they run? Continuing on I found
no real downfall from the conversation with the Illusive Man it felt
needed and appropriate. The next encounter is where I really found
myself upset with the direction Bioware had taken. After the
conversation with the “Citadel Boy” (can't remember his name if
he was given one and really was more concerned with the direction the
story was being taken.) I was given the options to destroy
synthetics, control the Reapers or synthesize a new life form. Now
this is where I find it hard to gain an appropriate perspective,
which with a choice of this magnitude is legitimate. Although I'm
left wondering why couldn't the massive fleet be more effective (I
had every possible war asset, including both the Quarian, Geth and
two multiplayer characters and I spent lot of time making sure I had
done so.)? With all of the time invested in building this fleet why
wasn't it enough? The power scale of the Reapers seemed to waiver to
much. I understand that the Reapers that you kill throughout the game
are not as powerful as Harbinger or other higher classified Reapers
but it just didn't seem to balance out. Which leads me to my point
regarding the war assets, I felt like after everything I had done it
didn't matter. The Geth were merely mentioned and the Rachni had no
place in the ending at all, what was the point of freeing the Rachni
Queen if after you see her the only Rachni mentioned are the ones
attacking your squad and working on the Crucible? You can argue that
they were merely workers, which is fine I'll accept it but after all
that work gathering all of those forces it just doesn't feel right to
have a limited amount displayed in the final mission. With the Rachni
for example if you look at it from a technical stand point the points
you get for having them doesn't really matter in the end anyway
you're War Assets will still be high enough to get the “best”
ending regardless. Which begs the question what is the point? Just to
make the war assets bigger? Why bother with the Rachni Queen in ME1?
These are the questions that I wish I didn't have to ask the end
should involve you fighting along side everyone you gathered. Which
finally I'll get to the actual ending. Regardless of the choice you
make nothing really feels different either the Reapers fly away or
the fall over, the mass relays blow up (which didn't they take out a
solar system in the ME2 Arrival DLC?) and for some incredible reason
the Normandy dashes off through the relays to crash land on some
magical world. Again, I completely support artistic creativity we
wouldn't have this series if it weren't for Bioware's writers coming
up with some of the best damn story ever conceived in my opinion.
This ending doesn't feel like Mass Effect at all, it barely feels
like Bioware even wrote it. Honestly, I'm fine with open ended
endings where the audience is left to finish for themselves but
that's not what we were given. As much fun as conspiracy theory's can
be I shouldn't have to have a Ph. D in physics, psychology and
interpretive dance to understand or do hours of watching a 6 minute
ending frame by frame to look for little half a second cues
reassuring me this was just some kind of dream. But if you ask me
what I'd add/remove to this ending to make this acceptable in the
very least, I'd say remove the Normandy running and add a scene with
Shepard and his love interest sitting somewhere reunited. They
wouldn't even have to speak. Bioware did such an amazing job with
building up the relationships in this game that simple little scene
is all I would need to be happy with the ending (again, regardless of
playthrough I will always make sure Shepard lives so I understand
that this doesn't address everyone). But I'm not going to sit here
and tell you what the ending should be because frankly I still trust
Bioware that if they rewrote the end or even just added another
choice I feel like they would knock it out of the park.

With that said I will still play Mass
Effect 1 thru Mass Effect 3 but I'll never beat 3 again so I can save
myself the disappointment the end brought me. Bioware if you ever
decide Mass Effect 3 deserves a better ending you will have my utmost
support in the decision. I know that the implications of this raging
debate could involve you doing something that has never been done
before but don't let that hold you back you already are innovators in
the gaming industry why not just add one more thing to that list?
You've got the money, the power and the fan support. Regardless of
your choice in this Bioware I will still be a fan of your work as I'm
sure most people will be. Your move, Bioware.
