"Misspoke" is an understatement.
This was someone who obviously had knowledge of at least a portion of the mindset in the BioWare offices as of this past week.
To blatantly say "we have no plans" to do anything concerning the ending means that they will never have plans to do so.
Keeping in mind that the call is not to change the ending, or re-do it, but to add additional pathways to it. This is not a hacket job, but an addendum being called for.
And they simply don't care.
I know Jess might care, same as Jarrett or Mike or even Casey (to some extent), but this is just insulting. Please, stop acting like you're listening and taking in our feedback and then outright say "we're hearing you, but we won't do anything."
If you're listening so much or care so much, at least put the option on the table.
This, pretty much. If he misspoke when the language was clear and definitive--and this guy is literally representing BioWare and the Mass Effect franchise on
Twitter and Facebook, on such a
clearly important and incendiary concern, that's not "miscommunication." That's either "a few of us are starting to realize this is actually a huge problem we need to fix, but we haven't told everyone yet and the nature of our solution isn't decided yet", or it's "a few of us actually understand this ****storm is legitimate and important, and letting those statements stand would be a PR nightmare".
Guys, you should at least put the option on the table. You don't have to make some big annoucement; you can do it relatively quietly. But you need to do it, and soon. Otherwise--and I can guarantee this--this will be a massive black spot on BioWare's reputation for many years to come, and you'll lose a majority of your most dedicated and beloved fans. Those same fans (or most of them) will become vocal and persistent in their disgust and disillusionment. The fact that there are already half a dozen memes about ME3's endings alone within two weeks of release should be an indicator for the kind of sentiment being felt, and how prevalent it is.
The fact is, it'll take something big to restore the fanbase's faith in BioWare to the level it was before ME3's launch. Because if BioWare (and no offense is intended to its employees, only to the resulting actions) can screw up so horribly in an area they extensively and frequently promised and hyped up on their biggest franchise ever--even when the first 98% of the game was excellent and on par with the rest of the series--then how do we know that an Ending DLC won't be similarly dissapointing and bad? Or that a future franchise will get the same treatment?
That "something big" would have to be something along the lines of a MUCH improved ending that's true to the clear, numerous promises made by BioWare's leading developers and the core themes, experiences, and emotions of the series, priced at no more than 10 dollars (with a
sincere apology and acknowledgement of the mistake), or for free-$5 (with no real apology).
