Next runthrough..mc what to do? Good/bad experiences?

Trying to figure out the next runthrough. Went through this time with female human noble DW Warrior. Lots fun, got into Duel wield phase last few mods and runthrews on nwn2. So, that was first mc here.
Not sure about next...

sheild and sword build?  Thoughts..good and bad? Not used to Shields being able to do so much..from nwn1 and 2 they pretty much just added defense, couldn't knock people over/hit em with it etc....only used em when I played Clerics.

2h warrior build? Read some negative about it, and a couple positives? Now that Ser Cautherine, was a 2h greatsword..and she would wipe out my party members in a swing or two...so how bad could that build be? Unless she just had ridiculous npc stats to make her that way? thoughts?

And other than switching to a mage in my party to tell them what to do, I've never played a mage even in nwn as a mc. Never appealed to me..like to get in and brawl/melee fight. But..toying with that idea.
Anyone play  a party with say Morrigan, Wynn, a mc as a mage..and than one tank? Would think it'd be tough early on..but later with all doing high level spells..seems like could be dangerous party. That damage stacks right? So if you have 3 mages all casting tempest or ice blizzard etc. on a group of enemies...should be lotta damage!

Just looking for ideas for my 2nd run through/mc build/party composition and how it worked in battle.

My first play thru was a dwarf berserker / champion with two handed weapons and insane strength. It was ridiculously AWESOME. Be prepared for early levels to suck a bit with two handed weapons, you will hit hard but when you miss it sucks really hard. But later on as you grow in power and get new abilities you start dishing out insane damage. Having a bard in the party for the damage buff can send your hits to 100+ easily by mid game. You also look like a badass. I'm doing a rogue now for my second play through, it requires more micro management, but is very very fun as well. So that's my 2 cents.

Can increase your hits by sacrificing some strength for Dex right? So, might do less damage per hit, but would hit more? My dual wield had high dex of course, high strength and Con. Stats with equip were Str 60 and Dex  52 and my hit rate/% was like 95.  Think my highest one hit with one sword was like 75 though. But times 2 for both sword strikes was pretty good damage.

Might not, I also mentioned maybe doing a mage(3rd paragragh), which I have never tried.  But was looking for warrior options for fighting styles, good/bad.
Other things will change even if I do another warrior, and just choose a differnt style.
Was thinking of playing a male character this time, not sure which race yet, try the romance with Morrigan maybe just for a change.  etc..  So will be doing different things.

Considering Arcane Warrior is an invincible freak mage warrior who can only even possibly be killed by super elite enemies like gaxkang or dragons , and even then not nessicarily either

I liked playing my 2H warrior personally , Hes lvl 22 and my sword/shield warriors only lvl 7 but I definantley enjoyed the 2H warrior more if I compare lvl 7 to lvl 7

I roleplayed it like a dark knight theme , did Reaver/Berserker and wore armor of the legion (Its black armor) and I liked it

hmmm, that sounds interesting. Maybe I will try the 3 mage party with one tank. Gotta figure early on will be tough going though, but after they all start getting their higher power spells..should be interesting party in combat.

Is it the spells or armor, or both that make it a good specialization? Read about the abilites a little, some sort of shiled abilities, and can you also equip stronger armor using a diff stat than strenth I think i read?

Once you get the lvl 16 ability you become more or less invincible as long as you have combat magic & fade shroud on



The focus is further bufffing , more buffs like Miasma , Spell shield , Arcane Shield , Rock armor , flaming/frost/telekenetic weapons furthers it



I also extremely reccomend Virulent walking bomb for an arcane warrior



I also would say have a bard in the party because bards mana regen and lockpicking is nice

If I do the 3 mages party, Wynn is Spirit Healer, Morrigan has Shapeshift which I never had her use, maybe once. But stuck with that for her unless I get that respec mod, which I don't think I want to mess with. Would kinda throw off her stories of watching people in animal form anyway..wouldn't make sense than. lol

Blood mage.  The combo is meant to go together.  The AW/SH is a good build and is very very tough to bring down, but the CC from blood mage is amazing.

Wrong. More Strength will increase your attack rating just as well as more dex.

hmmm, maybe not understanding it correctly. More strength should equal more damage per hit, but if your dex is low, you might miss a lot. 

So..to me if you pump up your dex, on say a 2h weapon charcter..you have better chance to hit vs miss. So, have your dex high as well as your strength..so that you don't miss as often.  If you have just massive strength but bad dex..sure you'll do a lot of damage..if you connect...but chance of miss will be high.

So I thought it would be better to do a little less damage per hit(sacrifice some Str points and put into Dex), if you are going to be able to hit more vs missing.

That's not right than?

both strength and dexterity have this in their stat descriptions:



"Increases attack score in melee combat by .5 for each point purchased"



so basically, investing in dex is doing nothing but trading damage for defense.

Yeah, just pump strength. It's just early levels where you don't have any +attack gear, very few +attack buffs, and your stats are still kinda lowish that 2h feels like it misses too much. Later on that goes away.

An Arcane warrior is far from invincible +/- unless you use the pathetic cookie cutter build. Be a little adventurous with it and it can be a lot of fun, also far from immortal. To be honest I found my dual wield rogue to be far far more fun then any mage build, actually the story is my prime concern. I would also say Rogue plus Shale as tank equals massacre :)

Playing a two hander as well at the moment(multiple games going :P ), with light armor, bring Shale and everything is usually fine as she holds agro like glue and "it" loves having her along. The second lot of Deake armor from Wade is perfect (although visually a let down) for the berserker light armor as I am not tanking and I want zero agro on me most of the time (easy to swap to high heavy if ever needed).

Threw me off I guess, when I read the Dex description, 2nd sentence says "Higher dexterity improves a characters chances to hit, "

So, guess I focused on that sentence. Probably dumped more into Dex than I needed than, but they probably missed my mc a lot more. lol  I just wasn't doing as much dmage as I could have been if not putting so much into Dex for my dw warrior.  At end with equipemet bonuses included she had 60 strength and 52 Dex.

I don't see why people bash 'cookie cutter' builds. Generally they are cookie cutter builds because they're fun and unless you are trying for a solo nightmare play through, most people surely don't attempt to 'min/max' them, especially in single-player games.

Yeah, thinking I'll try the mage aw route this time. Save the 2h build or shield/weapon build for later.
Just trying to plan out aw/bm or aw/sh. Sounds like if using your aw for more in close melee..go with aw/bm. If more staff and ranged fighting go with a more defensive aw/sw.
Not sure yet.

i suggest just go regular mage and ignore the specializations

spells like inferno, blizzard, glyph of repulsion and walking bomb are all loads of fun

specializations of the mage on the other hand are pretty boring
