Because someone needs to be left to run tests on seashells.

Also, those plot holes are ridiculous.

Holding the line because Mass Effect would otherwise be my favourite games/stories of all time. Can't bear to see such an amazing franchise go to waste...

I've said it elsewhere. ME is my star wars. Its my star trek. Its the best scifi universe I know of. Thinking of ME series as a whole- it is the first game in my mind that beats chrono trigger for greatest game/ greatest experience of all time.

ME deserves more. It deserves to be seen alongside all the other classics in all other mediums. This ending diminishes it.

For my part, I saw how DA2 went bad and got casualized in a way it was hard to see I was playing a natural development of Origins.

I hope it does not happen to ME3 since it´s a far better game in gameplay terms that ME1 and ME2. It needs a better ending but truth of the matter is that I wouldn´t mind to play a redux version of the other two games with ME3 mechanics.

Oh I would so buy that if they did. Well probably if they solve this issue anyways.

As some other thread mentions, the problem is that Bioware has been dumbing down everything, first gameplay and now, storytelling.

If I play games like ME or DA is exactly because there are no 14 year old kids yelling on the speakers and because I can save my current game and get back with calm and enjoy the ride. It is because these games are not FPS or Starcraft that I like them, not because they resamble them.

I hold the line because this game trilogy means so much to me. Every character, situation, and moment that took place in the ME universe has now become a part of my memories. I might not be able to tell my kids or grand kids about adventures i had while growing up but i damn well will tell them the story of commander Shepard. I want to be able to tell them a good ending that at least tells me what became of everyone else, not something like this.

I hold the line because, because..... i just want closure.

I spent the last two games conquering impossible odds, proving the reapers can be beaten by a united galaxy, instilling fear in them for likely the first time ever, and just plain never giving up or giving in despite everyone telling me I should because it was hopeless or impossible one way or another. And proving them wrong.

I'll be damned if I let it end like this where I just cursory nod to my morals and values as the Commander, condone genocide as some option against an ideal I've proven wrong twice over, and just give up because a deus ex machina told me to. It's Commander Shepard. Shepard CAN do it.

That's what I'm personally hoping to see again, anyway.

Because I care about this franchise and value the narrative of the trilogy.  Mass Effect is literally the best sci-fi epic I have ever seen, and it's heartbreaking to a fan of good storytelling that the ending so negated all that had been previously accomplished.

Mass Effect has almost achieved something no game franchise has ever done: letting the player truly choose the story for her/himself.  It's dynamic, engaging, and dramatically gripping...up until the last moments, where a deus ex machina ending is introduced in complete opposition to the aforementioned narrative themes.

I care the same way I would if the last page of the Great Gatsby opened to an audio recording of fart noises.  Bioware has achieved something great, and it has the potential to go down in history as one of (if not the) best game series ever made.  This could easily be their new Shadows of Amn, except for an inexplicable ending that needs. to. be. fixed.  Or amended, or added to, or whatever.

I have invested a lot of time into these characters.  And yes, emotion - just as if Han Solo or Legolas had died, I was sad to see Mordin and Legion go.  I'm here because I'm hoping that Bioware will honor that with an ending that befits all that they have set up so far.

This is pretty much why I hold the line. I need closure, an ending, for the series to go out on a high note, with all your choices in all three games (or at the very least, in the third game) changing the ending so players can end it in their own way, on their own terms, without a deus ex machina in the way. And for the love of everything, at least have the option for a happy "golden" ending. Shepard has been through enough, he/she deserves it XD

I love and respect Mass Effect as a game, and as a good science fiction franchise.

I hold it higher than most Science Fiction franchises. I believe the universe is better than the two big dogs, Star Wars and Star Trek, and up until recently, I loved it more than Firefly. (Which is a personal all time favorite to me. BUT, I'm Southern, and we southern geeks love the heck out of that series.)

So, to see the series literally degenerate its self in a matter of minutes was pretty damn heartbreaking.

I don't think Bioware did it on purpose, though. What I believe is that they got so stuck on this bittersweet/mature/dark ending that they forgot about what truly affected people with this series.

To end this war once and for all. To stick it to Harbinger and the Repears without some rainbow explosion. To fight the battle personally. To die a hero or live a life of peace after the smoke clears with Tali. To know that I made a difference, as it stands, nothing I did amounts to anything. The races I united, the wars I ended, the people I saved. All for nothing as it stands now.

That is why I hold the line.

Because I really want to believe that Bioware is still the same company that made ME1 and 2.

I trusted them to make ME3 great, and I still cannot believe that the ending of ME3 is really how they wanted the franchise to end.

I continue to hold the line because I want to find out if Bioware is still the same company I thought it was, or if they've changed in a way that has broken my trust in their products.

I want endings that not only make sense but make it as varied with every choice we make all into the last battle. I want to see the army I gathered actually fight to the last in the battlefield for Earth. I want to see Shepard being able to actually see the effects of her actions right down to what she had for her breakfast that morning. (Ok, maybe not *that* much, but still.....) I want the story to conclude in whatever point there can be with all my decisions making sense and mattering and most of all, for there to be a happy conclusion along with any others that involves whichever LI Shepard has. I don't want space magic or to feel like I had the wool pulled over my eyes by Bioware and that STARFDSFKJAKLDSJFKAchild ending. That was a crap move and we all know it. We don't want 'pre-ending' DLC. We want 'post-dlc' for a reason. We want to see Shepard survive and maybe begin to feel like he/she should retire with all of her adventures or even go on to a promotion as an actual Admiral or even get put into politics.

I want an ending where our choices really did matter as a player and where we aren't shoe-horned into ABC decisions and crappy ends no matter what we do.

I'm holding the line on two levels: As an involved fan, I want them to reconsider their ending. As a fascinated onlooker, I want to see how this experiment in consumer empowerment works out.

I think I was in the first or second wave of people finishing the game and showing up on the forum. At the time, it never even occurred to me to ask for a new ending. It's been fascinating watching that idea take fire, although sometimes horrifying to see the extremes that some people have gone, too. But overall, I've been impressed by the camaraderie and civility.

No matter what happens, it's been an honor. Now let's go out there and give them Hell!

Because the series deserves better then what they gave us.
Because Bioware can do better and isn't capable of that level of incompetence.
Because we want to see multiple endings to make each play through unique and each choice represented.
Because we don't want the door to be closed on the Mass Effect universe forever
Because we want Bioware to be ABLE to at least have the option of a Mass Effect MMO despite their current thinking.
Because EA wants to continue to make money off of us, and we have no problem with that as long as a quality product is made.

And mainly because we don't want Mass Effect to have this stain upon its immortal soul and go down in history as the game that would of been the first perfect game ever made, except it lost it right at the end in the last 10 minutes.

It's almost as if every time a human or humanity itself is about to create perfection, the perfect something, circumstances seem to just conspire to make it fail and always at the last minute, and we don't want mass effect to continue the cycle.

Mass Effect can be the Sci-Fi story of this generation with a proper, cathartic ending. The ME universe is too engrossing and endearing for its legacy to be horribly tarnished by the current finale.
Any player astute in the Mass Effect story can simply foreshadow Shepard's final choice, effectively bringing the beloved universe to a dark end due to the destruction of the relays. Your choices, alliances, and yep characters I nearly consider 'friends', are doomed in every scenario.

I would really like to see Bioware take this unique opportunity, and amend the endings in such a way to bring closure and Cartharsis if the player is able to work for it. Doing so would set a positive precedent in gaming - not cowing down to angry players, but to actually take the feedback from a community who indeed Love the franchise and create a worthwhile finale to an epic journey.

Hold the Line.

Because I made 9 playthroughs. Nine of them. One for each class. One perfect Paragon Shepard. One perfect a**hole Shepard. All in preparation for ME3. I had one warts and all raw playthrough I call the real playthrough I did first for ME1 and ME2, and did that for ME3 as well. She was a paragade. I invested way way too much time and energy into this game because the story was so epic.

So I go into ME3 expecting an epic story. I am getting one. It is a wild ride. I stay up until 3:00 am playing I am sleep deprived. Then I get to the ending. I am going, WTF? I played Mass Effect 1 nine times, and Mass Effect 2 nine times for this? Red, Green, or Blue? All the mass relays blow up? Shepard dies in all of them, except maybe in red. The reapers just go away, but aren't destroyed in blue and green, but only in red. In each I commit galaxy wide genocide of some sort, whether or not those are supernova like the Alpha relay explosion, there is radiation and a lot of it. And there is no sense of satisfaction. Just a sense of a waste of time. Frustration. Helplessness. Hopelessness. The game was a 9.5 up until the last 15 minutes. Then it became a 5.5. The ending does matter that much.

Shepard is not a tragic hero. TIM is a tragic figure who through his own faults meets his downfall. Shepard is your classic hero. (S)he has the right stuff. This one makes it through. There can be no defeat for her side in this game. The reapers cannot win. Shepard might die based upon your military readiness, but she will die a hero with a gun in her hand and go out in a blaze of glory with her squad mates rallying behind her on to victory. With moderate military readiness she will fall wounded in battle and there will be casualties, but she will live. With high military readiness, she will live out her days in retirement with her LI.

But the reapers must not win this epic game. The epic fail would be you lose your entire squad, but the reapers still lose the war. That is how it should be.

Also EA can KMA on Battlefield 4 or any other title if they prevent Bioware from doing anything about this travesty. Hold the line.

I am holding for the belief that works of entertainment, of art, and of fiction can enlighten us, can broaden our horizons, remind us the world is beautiful and worth fighting for, that we're all heroes in our own way, and that what we believe can help take us to worlds that we didn't believe possible.

That sometimes fictional people can mean more to us and teach us more than real ones. "Sometimes people deserve more than the truth. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded." That while the encounters were artificial, the emotions were not, and I've grown as a person with every encounter, novel, film, game, or otherwise, and this deserves the kind of respect and love that I've come to give my favorite franchises.

I hold the line for something that justifies the emotions, the lessons, the growth I've felt, not as Commander Shephard, but as a fan of literature and story.

That was beautiful. :crying:

Indeed it was.

Beautifully worded.

Captain Shakespeare wrote...

A satisfying conclusion to a beloved trilogy.

To quote some other poignant lines I've come across in the days after beating the game, by IAmRodyle, in his 'Hitler founds out about ME3 ending', my major thought will be summed up in italic, but felt it necessary to also write his words just before as well.

"I adore this series for five years, only to get a slap in the face for everything I've put into it. All the alternate characters I made over the past months aren't even worth importing anymore. It would just be too painful to go through. Playing ANY of the games now is just too painful to go through.

The entire APPEAL of these games was snuffed in 10 ... minutes."

The interesting thing for me was, I had actually intended on doing a pre-ME3 run of the other games in the two months leading up to ME3. I did not have any other characters that I had created from 1 or 2 that could import. Due to work and school, I could not do that. When I was playing through ME3, the experience was solidifying my desire to play through all three once I finished. When I got to the end,

The entire APPEAL of these games was snuffed out.

I know many have put many anaologies to the feelings they are having. Mine would be like working for a company for many, many years. I believe there was an old tradition that people working for companies for 50 years (or however many) would get like a golden reward, like a rolex watch and a nice bonus. Imagine working for the company for 49 years and 10 months and then being told your fired. You put your entire life into this company, months away from great benifits, the like, only to be told your serve was all for not.

I've put in emotion and hours into the ME series, but for what? I was ready to loose Shepard and my entire squad; to die for the cause. I am not looking for a 'happy-ending.' I know what I signed up for.

I can only feel for those that played longer and more in depth than I did. If I had created a new character in the first two months of the year only to see that ending, I don't know how much more 'renegade' emotions I could eminate.

When ME1 came out it was right when I went on winter break in college. I played through the game 4 times in 2 weeks. I have never done that with any other game.

I hold the line for a ending that does justice to an amazing universe.
