Morning,

I am both horrified and disgusted that I cannot import my character from Mass Effect 1 and 2 into 3 because I have changed my console. Well I pre ordered both Mass Effect 1 back in 2007 so I think it would be naive for any company to think that an Xbox would last 5 years without breaking. So on my 34th Birthday I open up my brand new copy of Mass Effect 3, sit down, update it, download the additional content costing an additional 800 msp's only to then load up the import character which I have been using since 2007 only to find I cannot import it..... it doesn't exsist according to the game..... this can't be right I think so restart game but no..... I pop online to see if anyone else has had this issue and oh to my surprise yes...... hundreds are experiencing the same issue. To say im angry is an understatement... I haven't even put 5 years into a relationship yet alone putting it into a game franchaise only to find out that it was a TOTAL WASTE OF MY TIME. There is no solution to my problem as I no longer have the old HDD from my xbox and in addition to that in the UK they don't sell the transfer cable to allow me to port over the data even if I did have the HDD. So not only have I been screwed by the company (Microsoft) that sold me the console in the first place (to which I have spent £1000's of pounds on games over the years) I am also being screwed by the company who created one of my favourite games ever. So thank you for tricking me into dedicating a considerable amount of money and my time into something which I can no longer get the full benefit from playing. I am in two minds whether I should play it or actually not even bother playing it and send it back while also demanding a full refund for the downloadable content.... as I know this game is once again excellent I will probably play it but I won't enjoy it as much as I would have knowing that my previous decisions in the game will not be taken into account.

I can appreciate that as a developer you cannot predict the future but please when you next decide to start a new gaming franchaise please ensure that you have a suffeciently suitable storage solution for the character importing so that people don't waste their time and money on something they can't use.

Oh if anyone dares to suggest that I replay 1 and 2 then they can send me a free copy of both games and also a detailed discription on the decisions I made over the last 5 years while in the Mass Effect Universe.

Thanks for nothing. :(

IY.

How would BioWare design Mass Effect 3 to import save files not present on any storage device connected to the console?

This. I mean some people, myself included, have had problems with importing Shep's face from their saved files from the first two games. But what you are describing is something different. If you buy a new console how is it Bioware's fault that you no longer have the saved information? There's no way for any game developer to control that.

Just to make sure I understand, are you saying that it is not possible for Bioware to have designed ME3 to load a ME2 saved file that came over from the cloud, or as it was in my case, even a saved game transferred over from an MS memory card?

It seems like some of you guys know a lot more about the technical details on these things, which is maybe why you come to Bioware's defense. Fair enough, but are those of us who are unable to pull over their ME2 saves completely unjustified in our frustration over what we thought would be a simple recovery process?

Dimensio, it looks like you've gone to great lengths to help people recover their saves, which I think is really awesome. But isn't it a little ridiculous that it's even necessary? I stopped playing ME3 after the first couple of missions because I just couldn't get settled in to my new character. Its not like I'm hanging it up on general principle. I genuinely don't have the connection that I expected to have with my character when I bought the game, and that really sucks. If there's nothing Bioware can possibly do, then I guess it's just tough nookie. But if there's anything they can do to help out, don't you think it would be the right thing for them to do to try? I really want to play the game, but I only want to play it once, and right now I'm holding out hope that they will drop some kind of fix that will let me pull in my old save.

Ah well, maybe its useless to complain.

I didn't buy a new console by choice, my Xbox died so my hand was forced but I understand what you are saying. I had no way of moving my data from my old HDD as Microsoft do not sell the transfer cable in the UK.

After so many peoples Xbox's dying over the years is exactly why they have now introduced cloud storage onto the Xbox ( to answer Dimensios statement)..... but its a little to late for me regarding the Mass Effect games.... I am just venting as it was incredibly frustrating for me.

There is no fix for my issue but if you have the saves backup somewhere then you might get lucky CodeVision :)

This is easily fixed. Just replay ME, import that save to ME2, replay ME2. Then import that final save to ME3.

Done, problem solved.

Just for reference the cable you need to transfer is available in the UK just not from our main retailer (GAME). Check out eBay and the like. There are plenty of stores that sell it on there.

I moved my saves with a USB drive from the Pro console to the Slim. You can also check xbox live website to make sure all registered content is moved.

Monkiimagic, If you still have your ME2 gamesave I believe you can get this to work if you change the console / device IDs on your ME2 gamesave to match your new console. I have the exact same problem but said F it and started a new character. I am going to test it out when I get home though.

Yup, just imported my ME2 character, to a completely different profile no less. Moved gamesave to usb stick, put in pc, used Horizon tool to edit the profile and console IDs to match those from a save made on my current system, and boom... imported ME2 character to ME3. So, with very minimal work you can import your character... pm me if you need more details.
