What is this? Mobile phone ringtone industry?

I swear... if this whole mess would kill EA's rap for good, it could only be for the better.

Ah well, their stocks have been taking a nosedive since last year anyways...

If console games play like arcade games of old, I certainly won't be a consumer. If an FtP model like Second Life or the upcoming Planetside 2 is the model for a PC game, then I might get it.

Brainwashed people say that. Which, admittedly, is quite a few.

Capitalism does "rock", it has nothing to do with brainwashing. Corruption and greed =/= capitalism.
Responsible Capitalism is the way forward. Smaller profits with a focus on customer satisfaction and fairness over quick profits which ultimately leads to lasting customer loyalty.

Software companies eyeing up the subscription model is nothing new, but unsurprisingly their customers are less enthusiastic about the idea. I'm not sure this really sends out a very good message considering that pretty much every time I've seen this idea touted, it's to address the problem of falling sales usually caused by a failure to innovate. Call me old fashioned, but surely the most reliable way of generating a profit is to keep your customers happy rather than trying to bilk them.

I know how project timelines work out along with mandates from the high and mighty at the executive level. I can envision it now:

- "Sir we're done with the bulk of the game but have not completed the beginning and ending yet. Our Devs want to spend some extra time on that so they really pop."

- "Forget about that; finish up and submit whatever you have. Just change the colors or something to make the endings appear different.  And the beginning from the demo is adequate for these dim gamers. Give priority to the paid DLC and Multiplayer. We've already pushed off release once and need to meet our date for an acceptle ROI this fiscal year."

- "Yes sir."

That's what US companies and governments have been telling the whole world since the 50ies... and everyone jumped the train because they didn't want to be "kommies".

Now international commerce is running into a dead end, and they still are at it full speed.^^

EDIT: The sad thing is, they wouldn't need all that money squeezing if they just invested into what games have been about in the past: making new, innovative versions of chess and dice (essentially).

To be fair, under Communism, you would probably be out picking up dried cow dung piles to heat your home instead of playing video games.

I didn't say communism works... it doesn't. Mark's idea was solid, but it just doesn't work with people.

It's almost like a coalition of executives are actually trying to cause another game crash.

I think I need to start wearing a tin foil gaming hat.
EA branded, of course.
Extra conspiracy crumple zones and patented 'alertinium' layer.
Only 59.95

Tinfoil hats don't work... That's part of the joke.... but I get what you are saying..

The part of capitalism that will come into play here is YOU the customer do not buy it and therefore the business fails.

I was going to say that I once worked for EA and the people there, for the most part, actually wanted to make fun games and for customers to be satisfied.  There were a few who were corporate ladder climbers but that wasn't the norm.  Granted, I didn't hang out with the top brass.  They were in the other building.  This, however, makes me wonder what the true motivator is.

I've always held the philosophy (and seen it work) that the money (or votes) will come.  You just do a good job at what you do.  If you change your focus on chasing the money (or the votes) you lose track of what you are there for and then begin to lose the very thing you are chasing after.

Would like to get shot in the heart(Communism) or in the head(capitalism)?
Why only a choice of 2 evils?

LOL! If this guy is serious, all I can say is, you're going to kill the gaming comunity. There's a line that should not be passed, he is already on the verge of over stepping it. I hope for his sake and the sake of EA he doesn't try such things.

Oh, he'll try... and he will fail... and will be replaced. That's the good thing about corporations, everyone is expandable.

Wow, guys, calm down. This a CEO making a point about F2P to shareholders who probably don't play video games in a very bad way. Let's be honest, F2P, if implemented in the way he literally says it should be, would never be viable commercially. Nobody would do anything like this.

F2P is an interesting idea, but it needs to be developed better.

Well in a community of ''drone'' he can get away with such idiocy.

But we are the ones who should expose that greedy bastard and show that we are not some sheep to be sowed....

If they actually pull something like that in the future, I will be creating my own games and buy NOTHING from those who actually go through with such a MAD plan.

He is talking as if '' Well Gaming community is gonna die so I want to rip-off as much money as I can before closing shop ''

He has a sick mind, I tell you that.
