Played through already with a human noble rougue (loved it).  Thinking of going the magi route this time as an elf.  Is arcame Warrior a feasible spec?  Would like to be able to wade in some with a weapon (two hander would work best I guess).  Are two-handers best for an Arcane warrior?

For parties, ssems like you need one tank (Alistar seems best to me with his shield abilities, but I am wiling to be corrected), a rougue (for traps and loot chests), a mage for magic.  That only really leaves one space to fill as you wish.  Seems that another mage is the best by far for healing and heavy damage.  Any other builds that people use?

Thanks for the help and advise.

Arcane warrior is an one man wrecking machine. you only need a party pre-lvl 14. Once you get to lvl 14, well if you buit it right, you don't need a party, you can choose anyone to tag along. My Arcane warrior/Blood mage had 300+HP, 50is magic (not very high, cause I dumped alot into CON). I was runing around in the deep road. In previous playthrough, I was a rogue, and I need lots and lots of potions and alot of reloads. But with AW/BM I never even come close to dying. And I don't even need to use any potions. I disabled use potion for party member too. So, everytime combat starts, the 3 party members usually drops dead mid fight. Leave my AW to finish it off. I'm kinda addicted to perfect storm now, I cast it even in small rooms, the storms covers the entire room, kills mobs and my party members, only leave the AW bearly scratched, it was funny.

As for weapon, I prefer sword shield, 2h does roughly 15-20 damage more per hit, but damn that thing is way way too slow. Compared to 1h spellweaver, I'm not sure the extra damage can make up for the slowness in swings. Besides the stats on spellweaver is just lovely for AW. Plus a good shield like fade wall adds other stat boost too.

What kind of Armour do you use for an AW? Mage robes or some light/medium armour? Also, with a sword and shield, can you cat any spells? Thanks for the input.

some spells can be cast with the sword and shield still out (all blood magic, glyph spells, arcane bolt, force field, and crushing prison are examples i've found) but a lot of spells require that you sheath your weapon before you can cast.

personally, I don't even go with an armor set. mixing and matching has produced far better results for my AW. I use magus war boots (mage only, +12 defense), the mage helmet (forgot its name) that also gives +12 defense, and blood dragon armor. I also wear key to the city and lifegiver. with all that equipment I never even needed to pump anything into constitution. In my experience the amount of extra defense you get from that outweighs the amount of less damage you take from equipping an armor set.

1h sword + shield is the way to go with an arcane warrior

Once your arcane warrior hits lvl 16 and gets the fina AW talent you technically don't need a tank , or a healer , or anyone (At that point you can solo anything in the game except maybe the few most elite bosses you might lose to solo)

Party I reccomend is
Arcane warrior (Yourself)
Wynne (Why not make her an arcane warrior too? lol)
Tankboy (Allistar/Loghain)
Bard for mana battery (Lelianna)

Armor : I reccomend Dragon bone massive plate + helm on honnleath , but use Warden commanders untill you can get that

Is it wise to duel wield or are the penalties too much?

Also, what about my skills? Coersion good? Don't really need herbalism as Morrigan has it.

Should I put anything into cunning? Dont' really need it by the looks of it. except maybe for coersion. Does coersion just keep me from fighting others, or have real benefits?

Thanks for the advise Tonya.

I liked having Morrigan around for her banter with Allistar. BUt I did use her alot last time, so maybe i will switch it up some.

Oghren and Sten really didn't do anything for me as characters, so I 'm not keen on using them.

You can dual wield AFTER you turn invincible (Lvl 16) I suppose

I'd say party would be best off as

You

Wynne

Alistar

Leliana

Also , I STRONGLY reccomend Virulent walking bomb , its the end all be all spell for soloing 30 mobs at once as an arcane warrior and well , actually its amazing even if you have your party with you

Coercion has definite benefits at several points through the game. Not to mention that the PC is the only character that can use it. I would definitely up your coercion and forget about poisonmaking/stealing/herbalism/survivor and traps, since your henchies can learn them.

Actually virulent walking bomb will just get your ass killed on nightmare mode apparently , so if you're a "NIGHTMARE MODE ONRY!" type guy then forget that one

AW/BM is also a good spec if you want to act more like arcane and less like warrior. Even wearing cloth (reapers vestments), my AW has higher def and armor than my tank. :)

You can force field yourself, in fact you really should if you plan on using that spell.

skills go for coersion and combat training. make sure to goto circle of magi first, u get free stat boost in the fade, after that, bump cunning to 16 only for coersion 4. you don't need put anything in str, dex. You probably need put a few points in willpower, high teens will do, you need enough mana to cast all your sustained spells, but that's it. The rest you split between magic and con.

For equipment, helm of honnuleth is good. For BP, I use Evon the great mail, heavey armor, bought from wade's imporium. I like the stats on this mail, it's made for arcane warrior. Magus war boot. Life drinker ring is must and key to the city. other Jewelries, well if you can afford them, buy them from various merchants.
