This isn't adding up. This interview very deliberately describes the opposite of what we got.
I agree. This does not add up at all. "Who knows about the future? I can't talk about it too much because I
don't want to give away the endings but it really is kind of limitless." Three options that lead to endings that are virtually identical in almost every way does not equal a limitless future. Something is fishy about all this.
We've been had. I'm calling it now. We've all been April fools pranked. This guy has been on the series in nearly every way since the very first game. There's no possible way all of these plot holes would randomly show up in the last ten minutes.
Notice how he very deliberately uses the words "Space Magic" at the very end. This is the exact thing we're now calling it.
We'll definitely be getting the real ending within the next week or two, just you wait. That's why they need most people who day one purchased worldwide to finish the game. They want EVERYBODY in uproar, just so they can go "Gotcha!", and give us an amazing ending. Mac Walters has not done wrong before, so why would he now?
Also, EVERYBODY has been saying they're listening on Twitter, Mac Walter's has been quiet since the game releaed in Japan. That was the final release day.
It's as though he's sitting back and watching us, when he's the one that should be interacting most.
We've all been played like saps.

That interview couldn't have been more completely contradictory to what we actually got even if he'd said, '... And the endings are absolutely not essentially just recolours of each other.'

Dear god, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
What do you mean, laugh or cry? I'm laughing while crying. At the same time as I'm gorging myself on a homemade 300gr burger...
Does that make me crazy? Possibly...
Edit: nah, just kidding, I'm far too jaded to feel any sort of emotion. But the burger bit is true, at least it will give me closure and satisfaction.

What game is he talking about?
Sonic 2. No dialogue at all, better ending than this.
Imagine this ending for Sonic 3 and Knuckles: Sonic lays wasted from a Robotinik's death ray. No rings, barely moving. THE MASTER EMERALD projects an image of Tails, saying now you have three choices. You must control the emeralds, and robotinick will retreat. You can destroy the emeralds, but all badnicks will die, including Metal Sonic. There's a third choice, you can merge the flickies with the Badnicks and give peace to Moebius.
Wait what?

I'm normally a pessimist, but I'm incredibly good at reading into people's actions and language, and dictating what they're really doing or feeling. This talent stretches into all forms of media. I'm the guy that calls out every single jump in a horror movie 2 seconds before it happens. The one that calls the ending by the beginning actions of the hero. I've even worked in media analysis.
If I'm wrong about this, I'm hanging up my hat and leaving, because I just could not accept that my conclusion is not happening right now. Everything points to them playing us for saps.
One thing's for sure, they got exactly what they were aiming for. You're never going to forget Mass Effect 3 is this comes out to be true.

You don't make us want to go back to that universe by destroying it utterly no matter what we do. And if we're never returning to this point in the setting why leave it in ruins? Why make the last thing we know about that time period is that everyone is screwed?

What would be the point, short of pissing everyone off for a few weeks until giving us a real ending that we paid for? Even if it was to build hype, that's the *wrong* kind of hype, especially when people finally get the ending and are exasperated by that point.Blackmind1 wrote...

A multimillion dollar project like ME3 is not the type of thing for social "gotcha" experimentation. I'm sure the EA suits would have put a stop to something like that.

Well you can **** that it's pissed people off all you want, but as soon as it happens, you can bet that EVERYBODY will be gushing and calling Bioware a genius. Nobody in modern media would havethe balls to do this. If they do, then they have my complete respect.
Also; DRM. Imagine if PC users had to download the real ending and the thing was heavily encrypted on the disc for consoles, needing a specific patch to unlock, as a few have suggested due to the size of discs. The difference in size between the PC install and the 360/PS3 combined disc size is nearly 4GB, and you do virtually nothing on the first/final disc in ME3 before it ends, especially compared to the 25 hours you spend on Disc 2. The reason they couldn't do this on PC is because all files are installed in plain, easy to see subgroups. It would need a download, something you're guaranteed to be able to do, because you need Origin to play.
It would ****** the piraters off to no avail if they can't get the real ending on PC. It would also be a pretty damn cool move in terms of the playing with the community. Think about it; Most of us now think Shepard has been indoctrinated. They leave it two weeks, let it sit in. We're all screaming that this is not the end, we demand the real ending. This wake's up Sheprd in an ARG kind of way. The combined shouts of Planet Earth wake Shep up and make him finish the fight. This is why they wanted to wait until every territory had it and they ahd to wait for us all to finish.
They're announcing stuff to do with the Goliath weekend later. The guns also get delivered tomorrow. I'd be keeping my eye out to see what they say tonight about all of this. I think it's weird that they're delivering the weapons in a patch, two days after the event finishes. Most of all, it's the 360's official content update day. PS3 and PC can do it whenever they want. Just wait and see.
EDIT: Why would the Twitter guy say he has 10 endgame saves "because he's so indecisive"?

I am able to actually study because of the lessened replayability value of the game.

So, Mac Walters, how comes the vast majority of the fans disagrees with you, when you did such an amazing, outstanding job? Mybe it's a hint that you didn't do as great as you might think, ever thought of that? Come on, even TETRIS had a better ending, so stop giving yourself billions of pats on the back. You do not deserve them!
The interview kinda reminds me of the Xzibit-aynthetics-meme: Yo dawg, I didn't want Mass Effect to be just magic in space so I made an ending that's totally magic in space, instead.
This interview is just a huge slap in our faces.

I must've missed that chance to say goodbye since they all ended up marooned.

Considering you intentionally torched the franchise, yes. This is the end. Of everything.
