Dragon Age seems to have attracted a rather large and active community, judging by the activity on the forums and the amount of mods that have already been released. But this is to be expected with a brand new, shiny product.

Looking back on Bioware's previous releases, the original Neverwinter Nights still has a bustling community with user created content being published seven years after the games original release. Even Baldurs Gate II has maintained an active following, and the same goes for NWN2. (Although technically that was an Obsidian product.)

So what I'm wondering is this: Who here believes themselves to be in it for the long haul? I for one, intend to continue supporting Dragon Age for the forseeable future, and plan to eventually begin releasing projects of my own once I begin tinkering with the toolset. (I just have to finish the original campaign first. :x)

I'm sure there will be a sizeable community for a long time to come, but I just want to gauge the reaction of the current fledgling community. Major accidents and life-threatening illnesses aside, do you believe you will be sticking with the modding community, or will you be abandoning Dragon Age the moment another new toy is released? ^_^

Just interested in hearing your opinions.

Meh, new toys have already been released and I am having fun with them. That being said, this game is already in my shrine of awesome games, and I tend to stick around like company that stays no matter how many unsubtle hints you drop.

Look at ME1 forums ;) you will mention that it was active up to now (now its more ME2).

So far as I mentioned, all this hype will go away, but it will not die out. There will be allways a good bunch of folks around forums who will be loyal to the game.

Based on how people react now,I would say community will be very much active up to DA2.

I'm in it for the _long_ haul, sister. I'm just not really into this type of forum, I prefer the old ones.

Am loving Dragon Age, on my 3rd playthrough and planning the 4th. It will become even more awesome once the modders get into it... I can't wait. I _finally_ uninstalled BG2 and ToB this weekend and will give it a Viking Funeral. At last a worthy successor.

I see myself in it for the long haul. I've been waiting for this game for years, I just didn't know Dragon Age would be it. Now that it's here, I ain't goin' nowhere!

I got a load of other games to play in the meanwhile, but I suspect DAO will be one of those that I keep returning to when I feel like it. Kinda like I do with BG2, NWN, etc. I still sometimes install one of those to see how it aged.

Plus, I wanna check out the mighty awesome mods that will no doubt come out later on.

As long as it provides fun. That can come from BioWare (hopefully with real add-ons) or from the community. The OC doesn't offer as much replayability as BG 2, is my impression so far. I understand the toolset has some problems, and some fundamental tools are still missing. The game has potential to gain a large modding community, but it's still too early to say. But since there aren't very much high quality RPGs on the horizon (and I for one am not interested in anything else), DA will remain in the spotlight.

I'm right there with you - I've committed to DAO for a long term relationship - I'm going as far as only giving out copies of DAO as a x-mas gift this year - grandma will be surprised and bewildered! yay grandma!

I plan to start some MOD projects on my own and help some others i've been eyeing as well but just like you i'm finishing my first run through - checking every nook and crack cause that's how i roll - i dig tinkering with the toolset as much as playing the game

BioWare has given us a fine mistress

I am definitely in it for the long haul, like with Oblivion and Fallout 3. Reason? The Nexus sites.

I will be for a while anyways. Normally the bulk of my gaming time is spent on mmorpgs but I'm rather burned out on the ones I considered to be good and most of the newer ones to come out have been really disappointing.

So until an mmorpg comes along that catches my fancy I'll probably be tinkering around with this game quite a bit.

I will be in for the long haul thats for sure.
Played BG and BG2 countless times and was very much involved in the nwn PW community ... and I believe DAO will also have some really nice high quality custom content soon. If all fails we'll still have the DLCs, right? ;)

it depends on the user made content to be honest for me, but the lack of multiplayer will limit its life with me.

I never cared much for the baldur's gate games or NWN and only played them for friends.. I never even bought NWN2 until last year, and that was only to play a persistant world called ALFA(A Land Far Away), on which I still enjoy roleplaying and leveling my wizard Ferox.  Without multiplayer I doubt I will play DA:O that long after I finally beat the damned thing(which is a while still I believe for me). What I will probably end up doing is deleting it from my HD and then reinstalling every once in a while when a user mod/full conversion comes out that I want to try.

I won't be.  I doubt I play much at all after this coming weekend.  (back to work and traveling)

I've done 4 full play-throughs, all chars leveled 20+ ...what's there left to do?  I've tried starting two char's since, but quit shortly thereafter.

I've played sword&board, 2-H, Mage, and Archer...  Done all but one origin and finished most quests...  And vicariously playing through party NPC's, there's just nothing left for me to do.  I'm tired of killing the same enemies on the same maps.

It was a fun-as-hell game, but thankfully I got it out of my system quickly.

Might check back around Xmas to see about patches and/or mods.

ADD:  I too lingered on the NWN boards, and of course, TOR is what I'm waiting for.  2010.  Sometime.

I've been "here" (on the Bioware boards) since the Baldur's Gate days. All through the NWN days, and the NWN2 days. I might disappear for a few months while I do other things, but I always come back.

Next year I expect to build a new PC that can handle Dragon Age at full settings, so I'll switch from the PS3 version at that point and see what the community has put out. It has taken a year or two after the releases of NWN and NWN2 for the community content to really start to shine, so I don't think I'll be missing out on anything.

I tend to come and go from my favourite games, but once a game is on my mental Favourites list, it stays there and is always likely to suck me back in at any time if it has an active mod community. This game mod-less has consumed my soul for an insane amount of hours, so I'll probably float away into something else soon lest I get burned out, but once the hefty mods start coming in I'm sure I'll be back, and the cycle will repeat. Glorious.

one reason people will be so on board/willing to stick around for this game, is that we "know" there will be more.

much like other successful games you see having several sequels and much dlc content/extras this game has set up a new universe, that any company would be stupid not to build on. bioware is no such company, so we all know there will be more great games/content in the future for dragon age.

Certainly. I intend to play through multiple times with every race/origin possible so far (that's 7 iirc.)

Hopefully by the time I finish them and I'm not bored or burnt out on the game I shall run through a Human Noble story once again with all the dlc etc there for the taking.

NWN did have an awesome community, some excellent mods there - some frankly outshone the actual paid content if you ask me. I got DA:O on console though so doubt I'll be that active in the modding community =(

another great thing about this game, is much like older rpgs like bg 1 and 2, and the older fallout games

after you beat it, play it, and then "burn out on it" its always fun to go back later and play again.

its a game you can get into and then break from, but its always fun to go back to

I see this game fitting into the never ending cycle of arcanum, VtMB, BG2 and some NWN2, fallout 2 etc

Not if they keep charging the same outrageous prices as for Warden's Keep. I'm quite interested in knowing whether or not user made content can be more than "modifications" but more like "modules" in NWN.

Not sure, for several reasons.

I stuck with NWN religiously for the longest time having fun with playing the game, making builds, trying modules and playing on persistant worlds (mainly PvP).

I never stuck with NWN2 for too long because modding for it was harder and multiplayer wasn't even in the game at first so there wasn't much content by the community.

As far as I can tell this is more like NWN2 than NWN (probably even more restricted) so I'm not sure there will be anything to stick around for until they make an expansion (1 hour DLC's doesn't really cut it in my book).
