Mark Darrah on the conclusion of Dragon Age II

My biggest problem with both games were the choices, more so in DA2 than DAO. Sure, they were there but it never felt big. Not that the choices have to be big, I just want them to feel like they matter. And I would absolutely love to see a more reactive world to things the PC do.
- I love the new talent tree structure and I ended up with, almost only, talents that I actually used and wanted. And the cross class combos, I really liked those. Overall it felt like the classes were a lot more 'even' this time around and I actually enjoyed playing a mage.
- The companions felt more alive in DA2 thanks to the friendship/rivalry system. I LOVE being able to disagree with them and not have to suck up with gifts. They interacted with each other and it was really nice to see that they spent time together and did things without Hawke. I like the iconic armor but would have liked a few different ones to pick from. (A few months(?) back Mike talked about how it could be improved and that sounded great to me.)

yes i think an elvern bloode mage should find an old bloode magic weapon of some kind and use it to free the elves and secure a new homeland for them.LyallxFidelis wrote...

P.S. I mean just as an idea
If we get to visit Tevinter in DA3, I'm sure we will see the elven rebellions that are frequently happening there amoung the slaves.

Yes, I agree. The choices in DA2 felt forced. Even if I didn't help Anders, it still happened. That kind of frustrated me, and made my options feel railroaded.

Remember Bioware, players will spend a lot of time in character customization so make it deep and awesome.

Player-driven narrative. My greviances for ME3 and DA2 stem from this. I want to feel like I shape the story, not have it dictated to me by the game.
There's a quote from Darren Aronofksy from his diaries about making Pii that I always think of when I play Bioware games: "Writing movies is like reverse paranoia. Paranoids see signs of a hidden order behind reality. When you write a movie you construct a world of signs which all point to the protagonist." E.g. If the chantry is destroyed, I should have - directly or indirectly - made a choice to cause this.
Ending that provides closure. Don't mind if it's DA:O style epilogue or a KoTOR rewards ceremony, but DA2 and ME3 didn't satisfy me. The former just stopped abruptly, the latter left too much unanswered. I get that you guys are playing around with formulas and trying different things, but can you scale it back for this title, because - for me, at least - these ending experiments aren't paying off.
Gameplay / Cutscene synergy. I like cutscenes. I like voice acting. But I don't like it when they contradict something in the gameplay. In DA2, we have the Mage issue, where a Templar will wax lyrical about mages in a cutscene, and then not bat an eyelid when you use blood magic in front of him. And in ME3 (no spoilers) there's a moment where you win a fight, only for you to watch a cutscene where you lose it. This really breaks my immersion. Clearly I don't know how Bioware operates, but my perception is the writing team and the mechanics team aren't integrated enough.

No more expansions for Dragon Age II... I'm depressed...

I was expecting at least one more.. and to be told there was one they had to cancel, especially after all the teasing from Laidlaw, Melo, and co. and those t-shirts just feels like a kick in the crotch. But I have faith that DA3 will be worth it.

Are we done with The Warden's story too? Because I surely hope so.
The warden story ended when it sank his blade in the archdemon. can't get better than that ! A heroic ending!
Hawke story ended fleeing the city in the middle of the night (if templar) or early afternoon if sided with mages. lol?
Am I happy? sure! Bioware can continue with Thedas thats what dragon age is all about, I have learned not to get attach to a character or anything anymore. I just hope next main character talk alot more with the companion anywere than " only in x you can talk" from Awakening wich it was bad, thats one of the reason I didnt like awakening.

I hope you guys are just compiling a list of what most if not all of us can AGREE on, and just work on that. Leave the stuff that have a lot of various opinions that are all over the place, ie the artstyle and the look of the elves, etc., to your own creative direction.

The sneaking is not mandatory. You can tell Talis no dice, and run around slaughtering everyone (I suck at being sneaky, so I usually do this). If you don't mind her giving you the sad you-killed-my-puppy voice, that is.

It's a role-playing element, which can bring something delightful to the role-players (to feed their imagination with "heresay"), and it won't be exactly bothering for any a players, if done well enough.

In short, Large Area of Play, Freedom (of characters, party members, sidequests, map, abilities instead of forced classes, and more), Needed Lack of Horrible Bugs (not the type we want to fight, talking about the frustrating types in the software that make us look elsewhere to go gaming n buy games from), and just good fun with some dark and/or humorous points

Thank you... Because right now I feel dead inside. My sarcastic Hawke is like a friend to me, I'll miss him.

I don't think the DA:O epilogue cards were really all that necessary - particularly since they basically all end up retconned or ignored anyway. More valuable was the ability to talk to squadmates in the post-coronation scene, so you can have the chance to say goodbye. Though if the PC is dead, then epilogue cards might be nice.

I love the character, armor and story line of Origins.
The chacter in Origins and DA2 so much depth and life to them.
The armor and robes in Origins had great style to me. The armor in DA2 style was lacking to me, but I liked the character style for the face in DA2. My warden wasn't half as hansome as my hawk.
The story line in Origins was great, but the story line in DA2 was a bit all over the place, but still a great game.
If there was one thing I'd like to see in DA3 is mayed a armor customization system. I a bit tired of my character style being show up by my party members. Also before someone tell me to just use a mod. I play on the Xbox360 and can't use mod and I hope I'm not the only Xbox360 or PS3 player that feels that armor customization would be a good in DA3.

What I really want to see in DA3:
- A real war between mages and the Chantry and its consequences all over Thedas and your capability to decide where and how things end.
- The return to 3 playable races, and maybe the qunari as well.
- The return of origin stories, or at least a different background so your character can be unique in a way. A background for apostate mages and Chantry templars or clerics would be really interesting.
- More skills. You didn´t have to slice more than half of DAO skills, only the useless/redundant ones.
- Some actual sense of reality on your choice on specializations. So you decide to be a Blood Mage, everyone is afraid of them but they just "pretend" you´re not one?
- And finally, the development of Morrigans´ story and her god-child, whatever that becomes.
I agreed but please only male qunari

This is one thing I'd have to vehemently disagree with. What kept me interested in DA2 prior to release, despite the horrid marketting (seriously, can you guys bring in someone who actually knows what they're doing and get rid of Silverman? For your sakes) and what I saw as questionable changes, was that the story seemed like it was going to be more personal - revolving around a character and their actions rather than the tired and overused format of going after a cliché Big Bad and getting sidetracked helping others along the way. Admittedly, I don't think DA2 did this as succesfully as, say Planescape: Torment, though the writing and characterisation were certainly better (I feel like a sycophant saying this, but Mary and Sheryl are simply fantastic at writing engaging characters - Varric's universal popularity and the polarisation caused by Isabela speak volumes of their talent).Mark Darrah wrote...
2. More traditional fantasy story (Epic enemy, clear villain)
Also, what made Loghain such an interesting character was that he wasn't a clear villain. He was an antagonist, certainly, but it was his intentions - that he believed he was doing what was best for the country he loved - that made him such a believable character. It's that relatability that prevents a villain from being cliché and unengaging. Meredith had potential to be much the same, though I don't think she was given enough attention for this to be fully realised.
Probably ME3, actually. I recall John EplerThe Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...

Sorry, I realize that likely didn't help.
That just exacerbated the vagueness of the original comment in question.
Clever little sneak!
You've
piqued my curiosity certainly. The only thing I can think of is either a
spin-off DA game or DA3 itself. Otherwise, I'm not quite sure what
would require diverting so much of the team from one project to focus on
the expansion.

I'd also love my characters from the two games to meet in some format, or even have two story arcs involving them both that meet up and intertwine at crucial crossroads where difficult and experience moulding choices are to be made.
How about a "non story" party member slot being allocated, in which you can recruit people from the world to help your cause as a result of you aiding them in side quests. There could be a few hidden gems mixed in too, such as thief character to recruit who has maxed out lock picking but can't be unlocked until further on in the game.
The faster paced combat from DAII should definitely stay where it is too.
Also tough choices and more of them! I like sitting in front of my keyboard stunned at the choice in front of me and have to contemplate the pro's and con's of my actions - which also helps provide a more personal and unique experience overall.
