To be honest I did not want to continue Hawke's story in any case. I saw it as a set up for future events in DA universe but was not overly attached to the character due to poor writing and game structure. The time skips and narratives really took away from experiencing more with my character. While playing ME3 recently I saw many DA2 influences in it.. while I think that game had a great blend of ideas what made it good was a great story and the freedom to maneuver around in the game...leaving out the ending(coff..awful) the rest was well done. What DA3 needs is more of those strengths.. basically more areas to explore, bigger dungeons, a strong main character and choices that push the plot along and really change how you get from point A to B. Weapon and armor customization similar to ME3 would be nice as well as more flexibility in companion classes. By this I mean I like how they have different skill sets but not the fact they can be so specialized I have to drag one person around all the time just because they are the only one who can do something(example: heal). I would like to see my character go on an adventure with clear goals that are driven by them. I want to see my character grow and change but do not want a reactionary character which DA2 seemed to have.

What I want:

1. A strong main character to base a few games on.
2. Character focused story influenced by the protagonists choices.
3. Weapon and armor customization.
4. More flexibility in companion selection as pertains to classes.
5. Bigger dungeons and maps.. Think DA:O.
6. Ability to talk to my companions without doing favors for them.
7. A coherent ending/story conclusion(apparently have to ask for that now given large plot holes/futility of choices in DA2 and ME3) sigh..

Really, I think that Mass Effect 3's result of blending the strengths of the first two games and cutting off a lot of the fat will really be what will work here for DA3. Even though ME2 > DA2 and DA:O > ME1 in my opinion. But the two things that I think I would be the most pleased to see make a return and would definitely makes this a must buy for me would be the origin stories and not be limited to a human. As interesting as Hawke was, I would love to have a fully voiced elf/dwarf or even another nationality, like a Fereldan, Orlesian, or someone from Tevinter. (Or maybe a Qunari? pretty please) It was a much bigger game, but The Old Republic is doing this, I think, with great success. And one more thing that would seal the deal would be that the origin story either was bigger or actually had sections or parts of the story that were different depending on who you created.

I know a lot of this just would be doable considering how big the game would have to be. But, anything along those lines I think would be a step in the right direction and Bioware always has been an ambitious game studio and you usually know how to walk the line. Because if you get too big than you're just making an Elder Scrolls game. Which, as much as a I love them, I don't get attached to the story and characters whatsoever. I have cried multiple times in Bioware games. Like, full on weeping.

Yes, please. Take all the bloody time in the World. If it takes another 5-6 years to craft a DA game on the level of DAO, do it.

I imagine EA will give the timeframe, but if they have the sense of mind to realize the quality of the product would require a development time of several years, I hope you can capitalize on it.

Well, that's a pity. I haven't played any of the Dragon Age games for some time now but I was still looking forward to seeing a conclusion to Hawke's story. Will we see the events of the cancelled expansion pack play out in some other media (or even summarized in a forum post)?

I hope the protagonist of DA3 has a proper ending. The Warden initially had a nice send-off with the funeral/party and epilogue slides, but Awakening and Witch Hunt sort of ruined that for me. And Hawke just walked off the screen without any closure at all.

We will try to bring some closure to Hawke's story but likely not in a playable form. Originally we had planned to do an expansion pack but had to stop to focus on what we are working on now.

I have about as much faith in this statement as the previous statement that there would be post act 3 DLC i.e no faith at all but then again thats not suprising yet another promise broken by Bioware.

I was going to Pre-order the next DA game but if this is how those who supported DA2 are treated by the company then I think I wont bother Pre-ordering DA3 and have allready Decided not to purchase any of the ME titles or KOTOR which is a shame as i'm a big Star Wars fan.

Just take responsibility as a company, man up and give us the endings we should have had in the first place rather than fobbing us off with shallow platitudes.

I would like to see DA3 be more like DA1 with regards to feeling epic.  You had several different origins converge into one epic finale.  Hawke's story felt too linear and confining.  It's almost like Hawke's story could have been a companion's storyline.  I wouldn't even mind playing each companion's storyline and then have all the companions gather for the big finale.

I loved Isabela in DA2 so more of her type of character would be welcomed.

And please, no more exploding lego dwarfs.  If you are going to have exploding enemies, please have it a little more realistic.  It's pretty bad when you can see the body parts separate at their model joints.  I like gore in my game but I would like to see a little Soldier of Fortune gore than the exploding lego dwarfs.

And for Pete's sake, actually think about the ending.  Put some real effort into it.  We want to feel like heroes.  Why do people want a happy ending?  It's because we play games to escape reality for a little bit and we don't need a sad ending because we get enough of those in real life.  Let's us feel epic, even if it's just for a little while.

I actually enjoyed DA2 more than DA1. The pacing in 2 is much better than the slow pacing in 1.

Thanks for the great game :)

One of the reasons I really enjoyed DA:2 (in some ways more than I did DA:O) was the idea that it was being told as a 'story' by Varric. It meant I was really a participant in a myth versus an actor on events - all I was deciding was which alternate 'reality' version was unfolding. I honestly think a lot of people missed what that device would mean for the experience, and were too busy looking for another DA:O to appreciate the differences. Varric was engaging, a great storyteller, and the fact that (at least in my playthroughs) cared about Hawke made the retelling even more compelling.

Also, I really, really liked Flemeth. A lot.

(As for Morrigan staying by the Warden's side - I guess that's fine, if that's how you left her. Me, I'd like to see her again as a companion).

I enjoyed DAII. I agreed with the criticisms of many folks about the repeat dungeons and lack of customization when it comes to companion's gear. I enjoyed seeing the city of chains, it was very well done and I liked the day and night aspects. However, I did find myself missing the feeling of sweeping travel of DAO to vastly different environments.

As a both a reader and a gamer, I appreciate the desire not to repeat cliches of the big Arch Villain etc. For DAII, it felt like it *almost* got it right. Acts 2 and 3 flowed well for me, but the first part of the game felt aimless and awkward because as a player you -know- that your character is special, and the narrative didn't quite manage to convince me that I was just another poor refugee.

No matter the Bioware game I have played, I have loved almost every single companion or major NPC. I'll freely admit to being a part of the fan-base who enjoys the hell out of the romance and character relation quests. I refuse to name favorites because the Squee get's out of control, frankly. Sten in particular was a favorite in DAO, even not being a romance. I love the Qunari, their lore structure is amazing. The concepts the DA universe tackles are not easy: religion, magic, racism etc. I had some long hard think moments about dealing with the Arishok and his people. Also, even though I miss Awakening Anders, I had to tip my hat at his audacity and commitment at blowing up the fracking cathedral. Dammit Anders, I loved that part.

But, my lingering feeling at the end of both DAII, and ME3, is that I just want a together-ending with my companions, in some form. Maybe it's a girly thing to want a happy-ever-after, but that is what tells me I got the job done. For example, one of my DAII playthroughs executed Anders, even though he was the romance, because that was how the character would act. Not necessarily happy-ever-after, but it was a resolution and my characters choice that mattered to me.

So yeah, fantasy romance fan here, who enjoys a good country field trip to beat the snot out of bad-guys and save the world. And occasionally spawn a few blighted-god-babies.

I never understood why are love interest would want to be with our Hawkes when we rivaled them.

So I agree. :D

- Combat. I found the combat great fun though perhaps too fast. The animations I think were spot on, they were fun to watch, especially mages, much more fluid rather than the clunky stuff from Origins. I think finding a medium between Origins and DA2 in terms of the speed of combat would be ideal. Also to have Arcane Warriors back in some capacity, I miss my mage having the ability to use a two handed sword.

While I agree on mages looking better and more fluid, I missed the finisher moves a lot in DA2. I also think that DA:O felt clunky at times but the part I disagree are the aesthetics.

If there was something great about DA:O is the "blood, sweat and dirt" depiction of combat.

Yeah, more companions like Bishop in neverwinter 2 (I know it was not a Bioware game, but I loved hating him).

So they vanished into the hills and then..... asunder takes place. I can understand from a buisness sense why they had to ditch the expansion and other dlc but from a fan perspective this gives no closure to the champions story much like MEs ending.

I mean the warden had Awakening and Witch hunt to wrap up loose ends to prepare for DA2. Hawke Defends kirkwall from the qunari, cause a mage rebellion, releases an ancient evil and then discovers a qunari agent list spanning the length of Thedas. These to me are the events that will have a significant impact to the story. but I feel that there could have been more impact to the story had this expansion gone ahead mabyexplaining the conection to the disapearance of both the warden and the champion.

Dark, PLEASE. High Fantasy is so overdone and so dead to me. I prefer my fantasy shades-of-grey and quest-less and if DA3 goes 100% High Fantasy I'm out.

What is the difference between the two?

High Fantasy- More fictional, less based on reality

Low Fantasy- More realistic, less based on fiction

Dark Fantasy- Can be applied to low and high fantasy, includes more horror/horrific elements, or if not to that level, more anti-heroism and morally ambiguous characters

What level of Dark fantasy? Compare it to established works, or things you'd like to see in game.

Dragon Age 2 was a different game to me than DA:O. Not bad at all, just... different.

I loved the streamlined combat and equipment setup for each character. Some people love tweaking the armor setups for their characters, digging through chests for loot and searching for that elusive "Ring of +2 'X'" to replace their "Ring of +1". Personally, I preferred the more action-heavy combat with the option of going deeper with my abilities.

The exploration of the other cultures in the world, like the Qunari and the Tevinter.

What I didn't like- the scope of the world. In DA2 I felt constricted by the city of Kirkwall. Sure it looked big when you were running around, and the city itself had character, but once I saw the city-map I got an almost claustrophobic feeling. Maybe a happy medium between the two?

Also, for lack of a better term, a "Shale" character. Don't get me wrong, Merril, Varric and Isabella had me laughing plenty of times, but to me the most memorable character in all of DA (in terms of uproarious laughter) is undisputedly Shale. Everything she says came across as deadpan serious to her, but brilliantly funny at the same time.

What I felt was phenomenal- the option to have same-sex romances. It may be off-putting to some, but after DA2 came out a relative of mine "came out" and had a rough time of it. I lent him my copy of Dragon Age to get his mind off things, not knowing how important it would be to him to see that his sexuality was recognized in such a public and casual way, even in a fantasy game.

Please, please, please keep this feature in your next installment!

In regards to the ending, it's different for DA2 than it is for ME3 because DA2 is mid-franchise whereas ME3 was the end of the trilogy and we'd been promised resolution. No such promises existed for DA2 and I thought it was fairly obvious that it was mostly a set up for the next step of post-darkspawn plot. I like that it's more about fighting other humans (and elves and dwarves) than about them anyway. As Flemeth said "Men's hearts hold shadows darker than any tainted creature". That's always been the theme as far as I could tell :) I like it.

Dark Fantasy for sure, then. I don't enjoy completely happy endings.
