Hey, just a lurker here throwing in my two cents. I quite liked DA2, definately not as much as DAO but it was a good game nonetheless. The things that need working on have been pointed out already (dungeons, villian, etc). There's only one thing I'm going to request with DA3.

MOD. TOOLS.

We need mod tools. Look at the nexus, look at the length people have gone to modding DA2 without support. Something that can add so much to a game shouldn't be so hard to do. If people don't like certain aspects of the game, they can fix it. Look how well it went with Origins. Please try :(

How about this: not directly, but sorta.

The expansion was already pursuing certain mechanical changes to our RPG systems, which will absolutely be carried forward to The Next Thing ™, so you'll see how those have evolved.

Speaking about showing things directly, do you remember waaaay back in 2009 when videos were showing the Ostagar section of DAO pre-release?

I feel we could use some of that, prior to the release of any demos for the next Dragon Age title, if a demo for it will ever be created long into its development cycle.

What i think should happen is that bioware should let you import your warden and hawke and have them meet up and go on some epic quest. That way you could use either one in your party or both and we could all get some closure on hawkes and the wardens story lines.

Lord Laidlaw, it is good to know that the devs are listening. I, for one, liked Dragon Age II, and I look forward to learning more about Thedas.

^This. So much. Mods are one of my favorite things about gaming; I would really love to see this brought back!

I hope the Next Thing renews my faith. I liked DA2 and I would like to see closure to Hawke's story. I will pre-order DA3 as I have almost every Bioware title I was interested in. You do know if I like what I see I will be here to sing your praises and if I do not like well I will still be here telling you why.

Great so they started work on an expansion pack and they stopped hah. Has it been said that there will be no more content for DA2?

And yes, for those who asked: the "other thing that we are pursuing" is absolutely a game. A Dragon Age game.

Thank you Mr Laidlaw, you just cheered me up :wizard:.

With the reference to "games from the Bioware vault" I was worried you were considering ditching Dragon Age and looking to revive something else instead.

Bummed. A DA2 expansion could have corrected some little things that made so many people upset, i.e. outfit customizations and new locations. I liked DA:O better, but mostly because I got to continue my punk Warden's career through Awakenings, Amgarrak, and have him disappear in Witch Hunt. A satisfying end to his story.

If Hawke(Anders) is supposed to be the most important revolutionary in the Dragon Age, why is he/she suddenly cut out of an unavoidable war that will engulf all of Thedas? My Hawke would have travelled the lands burning everyone! Now she never will! The context in which DA3 would be set calls for strong leaders to unify against or with the mages/templars. Hawke is a leader.

Didn't like DA2 as much as I liked DA: O but I did enjoy DA2 for the dialogues especially Varric, so it would be great that Bioware would redeem themselves with a new game.

Sad that there won't be an expansion pack for DA2, would like to see how Hawke will end his/her story and an expansion pack would be much better with all DLCs so I won't have to spend so much on DLCs

I disagree. I think they should bury the two(as much as I love my Warden and not really care about my Hawke).

They've made it clear long ago that each game will have a new protag, so I've come to accept that each character is limited to their one game.

I've almost been afraid to post this but I'm going to go ahead. It's not that this is my only opinion or even the most important one but other have covered all the others in much better detail.

Characters and their relationships are what set Bioware games about for me. Romances are a important part of that. Having every main romance available to both genders was wonderful. Please don't go backwards in this area. I can understand wanting to have NPC's have preferences but if you want that make it something that matter to the DA universe. Maybe NPC A doesn't like blood mages or NPC B won't romance you if you side with Templars. We just want choices.

Hmmm... i first got into Bioware with Dragon Age 1, gosh that game was fantastic. :OEasily my most favorite game of all time. After that I discovered mass Effect and enjoyed those greatly. However, DA:2 had its annoying little problems, but overall I enjoyed it. I'm a gamer who likes to have a very heroic and compassinate character who is part of a very misunderstood/generally evil or downgraded face or faction who believes in Justice. So while i dreaded choosing between the Templars (Law and order) and my fellow mages (Mercy) It was awesome to choose. I felt the ending was a bit iffy, though. And please, don't get me STARTED on Mass Effect 3's ending. Fleh.

Oh my sweet Tali, I wish I could have had a life with you and little Quarman babies who would've loved Halloween (heh heh.)  :(

But anyway, back to the News. I, for one, will look forward to DA3, provided that Bioware will merge the great combat of 2 and the amazing story depth or 1 into a single great game which will have us all begging for extended story DLC. (Like Awakening).  :police:

I liked both DA:O and DA2, but DA2 draw me in better than DA:O and managed to hold my attention.
I have replayed DA2 way more than DA:O.

Things I liked in DA2:

The voiced character
The conversations wheel especially the sarcastic option and whenever you could choose
to let a companion talk for you.
I actually liked the companions’ clothes but would have liked if it changed over time.
Loved the faster combat, especially playing as a mage.
Liked the friendship/rivalry system
.
I liked the story, especially the characters that gave it depth, all companions plus Flemeth.
Liked the second act best,

Things I didn’t like in DA2

Did not like that the endings was so alike, would rather that O died in some other way when
you side with the mages,  for example by Meredith because it was really immersion breaking to
have him say that you are going to lose when you are actually winning.
Didn’t like the reused area, it was very dull to see the same scenery all the time.

Things I liked in DA:O

That you could play different races.
Really liked the companions.
Liked that you always now what you ware working towards, gathering allies to defeat the dark spawn.

Didn’t like in DA:O

That nearly all quest’s was long and boring, specially the fade and orzammar.
The silent protagonist, irritating that the warden was the only one not talking.

These, the bold highlighted comments:
"Things I liked in DA2:

to let a companion talk for you.
I actually liked the companions’ clothes but would have liked if it changed over time.

."  are what I fear that DA3 may lose, I fear that so bad that I'm actually dreading DA3.  This is one of the big reason's I prefered DA2 over Origins.  Hawke had LIFE which you could give them thru the snarky, diplo and aggro comments, for me Hawke had meaning, Hawke was real.  I fear going back to a silent boring protag like my Warden.

In all seriousness, please, for the love of the Maker, expand on the, by far, most important character. Sandal. Im a guy that can take a joke, and im not usually emotionally linked to my games.. but when I was in my house and heard Sandal say:
One day the magic will come back. All of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part, and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see.

I was scared to no end! Not to mention "Not enchantment". That Dwarf can use magic! I know it! I want to know the story behind him.. maybe he's the final boss in Dragon Age; the Arch-Archdemon in disguise, he was found in the Deep Roads, after all!

Mark, while I am excited about a new installment of the Dragon Age series, and am also hopeful that you are seeking feedback from the community, I do have several reservations that stem from my experiences in Dragon Age II.

While I really enjoyed many of the characters from Dragon Age II (Varric was a personal favorite of mine) the two elements I enjoyed the most from Origins, the combat and the narrative, were sorely lacking. I really liked the top down tactical style of combat in Origins, and was very disappointed that DAII abandoned that for a more hack and slash style, especially because there are so few tactical RPGs on the market. I also felt the narrative was disjointed and unclear. I will admit that I didn't finish DAII, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but the reason I didn't finish the game is that I didn't understand where it was going or what my characters investment in the world was.

I hope that the next Dragon Age game returns to the style that Origins established and continues Bioware's tradition of gaming with a strong narrative.

Also, good thing to drop out idea about Hawke's story. Better drop the corpse of DA2 and bury it. And finish his story in new, and, I hope, Origin and baldur's Gate-like RPG game, with more opportunities to ifluence. This, in fact, opens opportunity for save importing.

If we get a DA3, there is only one thing I would ask for. An ACTUAL ending. We want to know what the hell happens to our character and the other npcs that affect his/her life! I still dont know what happened to: The Hero of Neverwinter, Revan, The Warden, Shepard and now, Hawke. And I dont want to read a novel, a comic, or wear a t-shirt to know if they are alive, dead or made into zombies by cybernetic monkeys, I want to PLAY it, I want the game to tell me that.

Is the Dragon Age: Origins epilogue the sort of thing you were thinking?

On that IMHO i would say both yes and no.

The epilogue was cool in DAO and really did give us closure on some of the decisions we made during the game. I also liked the fact that they werent always black and white an e.g helping brother burkhill setup his chantry in orzamar does not have a happy end although the choice seems the right/good one to make.

But i also like epic cinematics. Epic cinematics that relate to the choices i made during the game Posted Image

Also just to pick one element from williams original post the Revan analogy is a good one. I know as a SWTOR player that Revans fate is revelaed in that game but the issue i think that came from that is the fact that he doesnt feel like my Revan. He was Drew's Revan not the players. Not saying that he was badly written (Drews Revan novel is superb) he just felt like someone elses vision of Revan and not mine. Please dont make the same mistake with Hawke. If Hawke is featured in the game he needs to appear as we played him

Didnt know about that hahah! I dont like MMO so I havent tried SWTOR, I would have prefer a KotOR 3, but well, thats offtopic. I agree with your last idea, I only want to see Hawke again if I can control him/her, if not, make him/her disappear from Thedas (and it is probably what will happen)

Someone said Mark was taking suggestions in this thread, so I would like to give my input.

First let me says I loved DA2 more than DA:O, and that I bought an xbox just to play DA2, so that tells you of my commitment to the game. Now let me says what I liked about it and what I hope will return in DA3:

Voiced main character. This is an absolute must. It is the reason I haven't re-played DA:O since I picked up DA2. I don't feel a connection to the Warden (I mean, the guy does not even have a name.) I do feel a connection to Hawke, and not just "Hawke," but to ALL my Hawke's. Here's to you, Nemanja, Kelly, Xander, and Eirik (my personal favorites).

All love interests romanceable by either gender. Please do not remove this option. I loved being able to romance Anders OR Fenris with my male Hawke. I know FemHawke lovers feel the same way about Isabela and Merrill. I was frustrated and annoyed that my Warden couldn't romance Alistair, but my friends COULD romance him with their female Wardens. Not fair!

An intensely personal and gripping story. I cared about Hawke and his family and friends. I was fascinated by Kirkwall politics. The huge, overwhelmingly "epic" scope of DA:O turned me off. The generic "hero goes on an adventure to save the world" Warden's story did not inspire me. But Hawke's personal struggles with his family, friends, and lover gripped my heart and made me play the game again and again and again.

Things like fighting mechanics and quests aren't as meaningful to me, although I will say that I preferred DA2 fighting to DA:O; in DA:O I felt like I just pressed a button and had to wait for five minutes for my guy to maneuver around the others and whack the enemy. Yawn!

Now, Things I would prefer y'all change for DA3:

The recycled environments, yes, of course; I didn't mind it on the first couple playthroughs, but it did get to be annoying.

Inability to swap characters' outfits and armor. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MUCH THIS INFURIATED ME. (Sorry for the caps, but I'm just coming off a bad/failed attempt to mod the game via my xbox.) I hate Fenris' outfit; no insult to his creators, as many of the fangirls love it, but I personally hated it. Why can't I have the option to switch it out? It's my game, right? I paid for it, right? So why can't I control it the way I want? That was one of the few things I loved more about DA:O. As for iconic looks, characters still had them in DA:O (Hello, Morrigan and her gravity defying breasts, and all the brave (crazy??) cosplayers who chose to cosplay her) But if you didn't like it, you could swap it. No biggie.

Ability to manipulate/change the narrative in SMALL ways for multiple playthroughs. I would love for very small NPCs to be different on various playthroughs, or maybe a quest is slightly different, or maybe ... you get the picture. A lot of us play these games 5, sometimes 10+ times (basically, when I'm feeling sick or depressed, I just pop it in), so changing things up would be a big help.

Okay, I've said my part; thank you for listening.

Real shame no expansion for DA2 and no more DLC i would have preffered an expansion to a new game, then a new game later :-) Not gonna point out good/bad points from DAO/DA2 as its been done to death and im sure you know by now people want a mixture of both, Both games were both great in my oppinion but do ahve to say the DLC for DA2 were awesome and thats the kind of DLC/Expansion i would like in the future, oh and more novels too.
