This. I don't want another Anders.

Edit, as for cameos, I'd say use them to grant a final sense of closure for the previous PC's, have an old Origins companion show up to comment on how the Warden settled down with whatever love intrest, (or lack of one) and has gone back to serving whatever role they took up in the original Origins epilogues or something. For those of us who dislike having our characters just disapear.

It just looks far too much like:
"Here's my dagger! And now it's over here! And now it's over there!"
*enemy takes 600 points of damage*
"Yay! I won by not hitting my enemy at all!"

I know what you mean, Ethereal, but I was speaking mostly for Dragon Age II. The choices were so limited and meaningless for most of the game that it gave it little replayability, unless you imported a different save file from Dragon Age Origins or something, or did your Hawke differently, betraying some characters instead of befriending them, etc. I just feel Dragon Age II was way too short and that the expansion could've have saved it and bring hope to the actual fans.
I realize you were speaking for DAII. That was my point. DLC -- and possibly even an expansion -- wouldn't really do much to change anything. The game would ultimately be the same.
People have bought both Legacy and MotA, but this doesn't add much of a spin on an otherwise linear story. Doubly so given MotA's horrific anti-Qunari ending, which makes it almost impossible for someone to play an anti-Qunari in the main game itself.
Not that I've ever picked the option deliberately, but I have seen it and it did make me facepalm.

If DA3 comes out with a day 1 dlc I will not be buying it.
Sorry to hear about this. To be clear, is this specific to not wanting to purchase the Day 1 DLC or the product offering it?
I think it's more not wanting to pay extra (like with Javik in me3 costing 10 dollars extra) for content that should be on the disc in the first place. But that's a circular arguement and isn't going to change at this point. Day 1 DLC is a slippery slope. It's one thing to include this content in ALL new copies regardless to combat used game sales. I get that.
Cutting said content for collector's editions reeks of greed.

Firstly, Sarcasm Hawke was a great idea, and probably the reason why I enjoyed playing as him over my Warden (although she was much more badass). I would say avoid the whole dualistic, "good or bad" thing--it makes characters more interesting.
Secondly, with companion characters, I don't think there is anything wrong with them having hard-set beliefs. If Merill wants to be pissed off because you hate blood magic, let her be pissed. It makes her unique. Being able to change what a character thinks is unrealistic. I want to be able to change the world and how I think, not my companions, who all have reasons for their beliefs.
With the endings, by all means kill a few close characters off--playable one's that I'd get an emotional response from the death, too (no I'm going to kill a sibling I don't even know about thing). I like the whole disappearance thing, but perhaps place references of where these epic heroes are going? Maybe some larger force is at play here, and the warden and the champion meet *insert new hero title here.*
I think the best thing to do here is integrate the DA:O formula with the ability to form more complex personalities, choices, and relationships. Its not a matter of completely taking out how DA2 worked, but making it more detailed. So, instead of sacrificing choice for voice acting, you give interesting choices to go along with the voices. Instead of cutting out environments in exchange for better combat, let the environment add to the fight.

This question isn't addressed to me, but I'm still going to answer because it's an important subject for me:
I don't buy DLC, pretty much ever. Not at the really high and never ever reduced Bioware prices, certainly.
I'm highly unlikely to buy a game with non-cosmetic non-free Day One DLC until the price has come down a whole bunch. Slight chance if it's just a quest/mission I'm missing out on, no chance at all if it's a companion.

If I could make a suggestion on this front, I think a happy medium would involve DA2's talent trees, but with the level requirements removed (keep the pre-requisites), and don't limit the trees to which each character has access so severely. Let warriors use bows and dual-wield. Let Rogues use shields. Don't restrict the companions to just one weapon type.andocrack wrote...
- Skill trees. Easier to keep focus on a character's abilities. I did like customization of a character on DAO too though. Maybe find a happy medium between DAO and DA2 leveling?

Im glad they are looking at the reviews to. I really do hope tehy allow for more customisation. Like i would so love if we had the option for more voices and/or the option to be silent. That way not all my characters sound the same.
I also really hope you give us the option to swap weapons back. In DAO the bow was really bad but in DA2 it was a hell of a lot of fun!
Edit:
I just wanna say thanks to all the devs on the forums. You dont need to be on here but you are, (im actually pretty curious if coming on here is part of your job description lol) when you all tell us that you listen to our feedback positive and negative it really does make me excited for DA3

I wish we could discuss the game in development in greater detail from an earlier stage, like we could after the original Dragon Age announcement. We got to interact with the devs on concrete ideas and plans 4-5 years before release. I recognise you don't want to have a 4 year development cycle, but it would be great if you could return to this more open approach to community relations.
I believe you are staring at day one of that approach even now.
I also saw people looking for more walkthroughs, live chats and the like. To which the answer is "Yes." It won't be immediately, since we want to actually have things to show, but yes.

Bring back the camp I really enjoyed that and missed in in DA2. Also this is just a little thing but I didn't like how in DA2 loot which had no value but to be sold was sorted for me already in junk. I like going through stuff myself to see what I can sell.
Edit: I would love to still play DAO but I hate the fade so much I just can't push my self to do it again.
There is a mod for that. But usually when I get to the Fade I put the game on easy mode and put on some good music. I've memorized the whole map by now and can get through it in about an hour.

I have to say I agree. Then the game isnt so burdened down by previous choices, and no characters end up completly different from who they were originally. Might as well just give us new once

Sebastian himself is actually similar to this Javik fiasco. He's crucial for the Mage-Templar conflict to feel even slightly more fleshed out -- not that it was fleshed out to begin with.
I think Bioware should read -- if they haven't already -- the article on Forbes by Erik Kain. I think that was his name.

I've only finished DAO once, but I've started it probably 20 times and progressed through at least one treaty quest with 13 different characters.Harle Cerulean wrote...
Whereas I am not. The combat is far too slow for for me to be bothered with it, and slogging through Orzammar and the Deep Roads yet again is not something I have any desire to do. I've only completed DA:O three times; every other playthrough is stalled at Orzammar, because I just couln't face it again. Ugh.
I found DA2 largely unplayable the first time. I have not finished the game, nor do I expect ever to do so.DA2 is much more replayable for me, thanks to faster combat and no sections where I feel like I'm having to force myself to play.

And honestly - get rid of voiced protagonist. Theoretically it can be done and would be great, but face it - you can't afford it now. Unless you suddenly get budget for voicing tons of responses. This is not ME, people expected direct control of what character say. So, get rid of paraphrase and auto-dialogue too.
Can you really afford another total screw-up? Then play it safe.

I personally like the import. My favorite character is the first one I played in DAO (I married Alistair and became queen). I was really upset that I didn't get to play with her in DA2 but because there was the import option I felt like a part of what I did there mattered. Sure, it didn't make much difference, but when I saw characters from my first game or they talked about my character it would make me feel all warm and fuzzy!I would be sad if I couldn't continue her story some how.
Yeah, I want my Hawke to be rememberd to ***** that he was;)

Regarding DA3, what I'd like most is a complete game. No "buy the DLC and see what happens next" BS, especially when the DLCs never completely resolve anything. I have nothing against DLCs; I've bought most of them, and I'll happily do so again. You don't have to leave the ending of a game unresolved for me (us) to buy DLCs. In fact, it shows a lack of confidence when you do that ("But...but...if we don't leave the ending open, they won't buy the DLCs!"). Seriously, if the game rocks, we'll buy the DLCs, and part of the game rocking is to finish the darn thing. That's all I ask.
If you're not continuing Hawke, I hope you don't continue the warden. Can we see Cassandra again? Pretty please?

I was wondering if BIOWARE will bring out an ultimate edition for DA 2 - with the game and all of the DLC's in one package... like they did with DA: origins + awakenings ultimate edition
