This is great news and also goes toward prooving that you take fan feedback seriously. To be honest I'm done with Hawke but closure to loose ends need to be tied up.

Heh. Remember all those times people accused others of being overly pessimistic and negative back in January-ish, when folk were predicting the abandonment of DA2 content?

Yeah. How about that, huh.

I know. It's funny. Too often were we -- the ones that thought DAII was done for and expressed are high doubts anything more would be coming -- told we were wrong.

Vindication!

I certainly wish I'd been wrong.

We will try to bring some closure to Hawke's story but likely not in a playable form. Originally we had planned to do an expansion pack but had to stop to focus on what we are working on now.

:crying:

I would have loved an expansion for DAII, and would have happily bought one. *sniff* Anything to continue my Hawke's story.

Oh well, I can't wait to see what you guys have been working on instead. :)

Then I am probably done entirely with Bioware games then.  First your DA2 fiasco, the ME3 fiaso, now 0 closure for a character, that honestly needs it.

Ok, I think I wasn't clear enough.
We will try to bring closure to the EVENTS that Hawke was involved in initiating.
The personal parts of Hawke's story are pretty much done.

Okay...I can sleep at night now.  :P

Where can I Submit feedback for DA:O and DAII?

Yes! please where is the home made suggestion box were we can contribute on the back of dinner napkins Posted Image

Otherwise I'll just repeat my usual mantras of more story, dialog and in depth relationship building with NPCs - But then again i probably wont be satisfied until we reach Baldurs Gate levels of Story/dialogue/relationship heavynessPosted Image

To sum it up I am glad to hear you are looking at the future - happy brainstorming!Posted Image

Well that's a heartbreaker, probably even more for you guys than for us.  It was nice to see DA2 move RPGs from something my ex and her friends would laugh at, to something they would watch me play.  If any company is going to bowl for the split and knock everything down, it would be you guys and gals.  Good luck and can't wait to see what's coming next.

In a way, I also wish I'd been wrong. While I'm not surprised by the abandonment of DAII -- and part of me is in fact glad that I won't risk being disappointed again by DLC -- part of me still had a faint and lingering hope that Bioware would learn from their mistakes and address them in future DLC.

So it's a mixed bag for me. I'm both happy DAII is done for and slightly saddened by it. MotA left a sour taste in my mouth because of the ending and as such it doesn't give me much hope for the future of the series in regards to believable choices and appropriate consequences.

I feel like part of my brain is arguing with the other part, and I have no clue who's going to win. Or how damaged I'm going to be once they're done fighting.

No more DLC also makes me sad. But, if it comes with the promise of a bigger (better?) game in the future, then I will gladly give up the DLC.

Keep posting! That's the best way to get your feedback to us. We tend to read the forums a fair bit, and, especially now that they've quieted down, we have the opportunity to see what our fans are thinking by what they're posting.

It's really the best way to get your feedback across.

What?? No Fenris-centric DLC? My Hawke is heartbroken.

However, if DA3 is as good as DA:O, then I will forgive you. I must admit the combat in DA2 was far superior.
And a glimpse of my fave broody elf in DA3 would be appreciated

Letting us know that there was going to be an expansion and that it was cancelled? That's kinda cruel. Now I will forever wonder what it would've been like. Dammit. Also, if you bring closure to Hawke's story in any other format, you're going to have to do it without settling on a pronoun, unless you plan on annoying a lot of DA2 players. That seems like it might be incredibly difficult.

I don't want to hide the expansion pack. We even had shirts that people saw.

And we thank you for your responses and consideration of our feelings. Even if some (or many, depending on the game and fanbase) disagree, I greatly appreciate that you guys respond to us here on the forums.

I'm really not surprised that DA2 is over, even though Legacy and MotA gave me hope to play a possible real conclusion to Hawke's adventures at the time they came out. Can't say I'm happy about it, but not devastated either. I used to like the game very much, but then I took an arrow in the knee realized that what I really liked about it was the universe, the settings and characters, the dialogues and cinematics, and that it was what allowed me to get over the game's flaws.

The DLCs gave us a glimpse of what the game could have been, and while it was great playing them, it made me a bit sad (and frustrated), considering.

As for bringing closure to Hawke, I'll do as I did for the Warden: headcanon it, and possibly write it. This way, I'm sure not to be disappointed by the ending ;)

Now, seeing official confirmation (sort of) that the franchise will go on is making me very, very happy. This universe of yours is amazing.

Awe no more DA2 ):
I'll miss my old companions, that's probably why Dragon Age is my favorite series, Bioware does such a great job at creating chararcters that stick to you. I'm really excited for DA3 now though, I hope we get an announcement at PAX :)

How come you guys had to stop working on the expansion anyway? Budget? Writer's block? Evil monkey-gnomes broke into the office and confiscated/destroyed all of your work?

Unlike many, I loved a lot about Dragon Age II. But Origins was for me, the superior game.

Dragon Age II Likes
• Cross class combos
• Rouge class changes (so much fun to play)
• The companions; you guys did once again a great job fleshing out them and their motivations, in fact, I liked the idea of their “loyalty” quests
• Story – for the most part, I liked Hawke’s story, her relationship with her mother, sister, uncle, etc was deep and moving
• Humor and party relationships more fun
• Fenris
• My avatar was voiced; that did seem to personalize Hawke a bit.

Dragon Age II Dislikes
• Repeat dungeons
• The passage of time felt forced; it seemed as if the writers said we need to have Hawke’s story fit over a decade since a master plan for Thedas dictates it be so
• I never felt as if Hawke was my character in the sense I felt my human noble, city elf etc were in Origins. I think it’s because I felt forced into some choices, especially at the end. So my engagement in the story was lessened
• Hated what you did to the elves; they look horrible (sorry Mr. Gaider, but in my opinion they did)
• Hated the ending
• Hated being stuck with one race and one background
• Hated the treasure and equipment; upgrades were few and far between;
• Party members were stuck with whatever armour developers decided they needed
• No arch nemesis; no real common enemy (unless you count the qunari and that was Act II)

I feel like with Dragon Age II you guys tried to broaden your audience and reach out to the masses that don’t enjoy RPG elements and so you took away the RPG elements. But I think by doing so, you ended up alienating your core audience. Don’t get me wrong, DAII for me was not a bad game. And it holds its own against other developers’ games extremely well. But, for Bioware, I think it wasn’t as good as it could have been.

To be honest, I worry about two things. I worry that you guys, either from pressure from EA for whatever reason, have or will sacrifice what you were in order to reach the masses. And, I worry that somehow your involvement with telling a story, and making it compelling, and far reaching with deep themes and conflicts, will lead you to make it too cinematic. And that takes away from the player’s level of identification with their avatar. Sure, often cinematics can convey emotion, story etc. more quickly than a wall of text can. And unfortunately there is a generation that wants everything given to them in soundbites, quick tweet like blurbs etc. But for some reason, it ends up being too artificial for an rpg game.

I am sad Hawke’s story won’t have closure. And I am very sad there will not be an expansion; but here’s hoping the next game will combine what was great in DAII and Origins and become the best of the series. Just please, no more mage / templar controversy as main conflict; give me an arch nemesis.

Good Luck!

Sorry to hear that CRISIS1717, hopefully you will hear something in the future to change your mind.

I know what would change my mind, a game that isn't full of recycled areas, player choices that actually MATTER. And one that isn't rushed out the door in 18 months dumbed down for the masses.

Seeing as though none of these are likely to happen I think I'll pass until proven otherwise.

Why? just why? there is so much more you could do with this story. I really have been waiting four or 5 months for more story DLC. I was also hoping you'd of given us a special set of armor for the year of the dragon (hello it's dragon age how do we not get something special for that?). Not to mention you are leaving it open ended as to what happened to hawke and what happened to his companions. We dont even get to see what happens to Talis. WHY WHY WHY?

Good question. Saying it was because of 'other DA opportunities' is . . . maddeningly vague and a little suspicious sounding.

To make sure I get your concerns:
1. More customization (Let's me change follower armor. More equipment upgrades)
2. More traditional fantasy story (Epic enemy, clear villain)
3. More areas and areas variety
4. More control over my story.

Does that capture it?

I hope that the future of Dragon Age involves more Varric and Isabela and of course the Avvars. :)

Sad to see that the chapter of DA2 closed but not really surprising. It would have been fun to continue to explore the world through Hawke. I look forward to what you guys come up with with the feedback from both games.
